Davies Monaghan & Klein address themes such as loneliness and isolation, alongside a sense of being captive in a world which neither acknowledges nor addresses individual struggle, and the creaking of institutions such as the health and judicial system.

This contrasts with the occasional glimpse of joy, and a celebration of diversity and community.

Although the subject matter is serious, the issues are dealt with in a tragi-comic way and the use of animation lends an air of absurdity to the characters.

Exhibition runs at Black Swan Arts, until 10 September, 10am-4pm.

Playday – 2nd

Playday is the national day for play!

‘Playing on a shoestring – making every day an adventure’ is this year’s theme and it focuses on everyday, low-cost or no-cost play. Adventures that children can enjoy at home and in our communities. It’s often the inexpensive, simple ideas that can be the most fun!

Super Roots will be hosting a fun filled play session at Rodden Meadow, 1-3pm. Come and celebrate the great outdoors and bring a picnic to enjoy. The session is aimed at all ages and will allow attendees to explore and play in the wonderful natural surroundings of one of Frome’s most loved open spaces.

Or explore the magical surroundings in the woods at Welshmill and discover the hidden homes of Frome’s most charming inhabitants… By then the fairies will have set up home! There are 12 fairy doors hidden in the woods, can you find them all?

The Merry Wives of Windsor – 2nd

A story of marriage, wealth, jealousy and lies. Falstaff is down on his luck, so decides to restore his fortunes by seducing the wives of two wealthy merchants. The wives discover he sent them identical letters and take revenge by playing tricks on Falstaff when he comes calling.

This comic humiliation of a foolish, would-be seducer is filled with live music and colourful characters.

Recommended for all ages.

This is an outdoor performance on Ecos, bring a picnic and a cushion!

Calamity Jane – 3rd – 5th

Frome Musical Theatre Company’s award-winning youth group, Spellbound, invite you to join them on a trip back in time to the wild-west outpost of Deadwood, where sharpshooting tomboy, Calamity Jane, raises the roof with cowboys, townsfolk, and her arch-rival, the famous Wild Bill Hickok.

With many old favourites – ‘The Deadwood Stage’, ‘Just blew in from the Windy City’, ‘Black Hills of Dakota’ and ‘Secret Love’ – fantastic choreography and wonderful costumes, it will be a gun-toting, whip-cracking Wild West whirlwind treat, not to be missed!

Our House: The Madness Musical Senior Summer School, is packed with high-energy songs, a fast-paced storyline and energetic dances, guaranteed to have audiences on their feet! No experience necessary – songs and dances taught on the day. Junior Summer School – skills week and Our House the Madness Musical – this years summer school is very exciting as we combine a skills week with a guest appearance in the senior production of Our House, enabling the younger students to perform for three nights in this popular hi-energy musical.
