What’s on in Frome for families this summer?

Plan your visit and discover Frome – a fascinating town with a welcoming and vibrant character.

As well as a rich history, evident from the town’s paved and cobbled streets and medieval architecture, Frome has a thriving arts and music scene. This is not all Frome has to offer, though, with family-friendly and sporting events going on regularly – we have a list of summer activities everyone can enjoy.

25 June, Wood fired Pizzas in Divas Cafe courtyard, Black Swan Arts

4-9pm, free entry.

Family-friendly food; wood-fired sourdough pizzas in a pretty town centre courtyard.  Food includes seasonal pizzas, vegetarian bakes, house wines and local beers for grown-ups, homemade lemonade and soft drinks for younger ones. 2 July, Festival on the terrace, at The Artisan Pub

2pm-11pm, free entry.

An afternoon and evening of live music on a family-friendly sun terrace. Live music, an open stage session, terrace BBQ & Pizza Oven, face-painting, jugglers, and an art club for the little ones. Suitable for all ages including young families. 6 Christchurch St W, Frome, Somerset BA11 1EQ

3 August, Tea & Cakes at The Blue House

10am-12pm, free entry.

Suitable for all ages including young families. Enjoy a lovely floral garden set behind a beautiful Grade I listed building in the heart of Frome. Tea, coffee and hot and cold snacks available. Free entry. The Blue House, The Bridge, Frome BA11 1AP. Call 01373 462577 for further information.

2 July, Last tree dreaming – celebrating Selwood forest

Frome Museum, free to attend. 10am through to 3pm.

Frome’s ‘The Last Tree Dreaming’ team will be joined by local historians, volunteer curators and woodland experts to talk about their exhibition at Frome Museum; ‘Selwood; A Forest through Time’. Starting 11am will be the first screening of the Last Tree Dreaming film. or you can pop in at any time to try your hand at printing your own image with the Museum’s historic Harrild hand press. 5-8 July, Magical Folk Garden

Archangel Pub £5.00 Adv/£7.00 Door

This event is running for its second year upstairs at the Archangel. The event runs for 4 evenings. Be transported into a euphonious forest of Folk and Contemporary Acoustic music from some of the UK’s finest talents. Doors open at 7.30pm, more suitable for older families. 9 July, Frome Festival Cream Teas and Live Music, The Archangel

11am –5pm, free entry.

Archangel Pub

The Archangel is hosting a cream tea event in their spacious pub-garden.  You can enjoy delicious cream teas and live music from local musicians to support charity We Hear You. Tickets are £6.95 and available on the day. All monies raised will go towards providing free, emotional support to children and adults affected by cancer and other life threatening illnesses in the local community. Suitable for all ages. 19 July Meet & Eat Meadows Picnic

5.30pm -7pm, free.

Bring friends, family & a picnic – and find out more about the wildflowers on the grounds of the Old Showfield, Rodden Rd, Frome BA11 2AH.

1 August, Creative Caterpillars

10.30am-11.30am, £5 per child.

Welshmill Scout hut

An art session for pre-school children; an hour of fun exploring paint, mark making, colour, texture and collage. Snacks and fresh coffee available. A repeat event very Monday. Welshmill Scout hut, Welshmill Ln, Frome, Somerset BA11 3AP.

August 16, 17, 18, 19, 22 & 23 from 2 till 5pm

The Roundhouse garden, free to attend.

This August you are invited to join Shared Earth Learning at the Roundhouse by the river Frome to learn new skills with cookery, art and building. Free to attend for over 13 years of age. 13 August, Frogs Wildlife Walks – Butterflies

2pm-4pm. Adults are £2, and accompanied children go free.

Mick Ridgard and Eve Tigwell will introduce us to woodland butterflies. Meet at 2pm at East Woodlands church (not far from Frome). Dogs are welcome but on short leads only.

26 August, Frogs Wildlife Walks – Bats

7.30pm – 10pm £2 per person

Discover the bats at Welshmill with Adel Avery – listen to their calls on bat-detectors to and identify which bats you can hear, as well as seeing them fly through torch beams across the sky.  Meet at 7.30pm in the Cheese & Grain car park, near Frome Canoe Club, and bring a torch if possible. Booking ahead is advised  www.fromefrogs.org.uk or call 01373 473909.

9 August Get Growing workshop

5.30pm-7pm, free to attend.

Pick up your wildflower seeds and everything you’ll need to grow your flowers ready for planting on the Old Showfield next year, Rodden Rd, Frome BA11 2AH.

10 July, Frome Children’s Festival, Frome

12noon – 6pm, free to attend.

A full day of fun in Frome for young families and young people. In various locations from Welshmill Park to the Cheese and Grain. Learn about sports, wildlife, stories, crafts, face painting, drumming, forest school and music. More information can be found here.

31 July, Retro Gaming family Sunday

2pm Frome’s New Venue, free entry.
