Frome creatives unite to fundraise for Ukraine

Ukrainian colours

We’ve all been touched by the plight of Ukraine and the humanitarian crisis of civilians hoping to escape the conflict and in true Frome style, local performers, makers and producers are coming together to put on a number of fundraisers to support Ukrainian refugees.

Saturday 19th March
The Silk Mill will be hosting a pop-up market with exhibition and silent auction as well as food, drink and music. If that leaves you hungry for more, also on Saturday 19th from 7pm 23 Bath Street are putting on a Big Gig for Ukraine with a fantastic line-up including the Emma Harris Soul Band, Rivers of England, Flash Harry, Pete Gage and Leander Morales.

Friday 1st April
For those who enjoy a round of golf or a meal out (or both), Orchardleigh Golf Course will be donating 100% of all green fees and food proceeds from lunch, afternoon tea and dinner at their Spikes Bar and Peacock Restaurant. The staff will also be donating their day’s wages to the fund that day!

Friday 1st – Sunday 24th April
Over 30 artists are exhibiting at the Round Tower Gallery at Black Swan Arts and online to raise funds for Frome Town Council’s twin town Ukrainian refugee appeal.  The Artists for Ukraine works will be available to buy via a silent auction which will go live on 1st April.  Bids can be made online or in person.

Thursday 7th April
Performers from Frome College’s music department will be coming together to put on a benefit concert at the Merlin Theatre. There will be a range of fantastic performances from soloists, bands, the string group, choir, ukulele group and the percussion group.  Alongside the entertainment there will also be a bake sale and auction of student photography.

Saturday 9th April
Slav Spirit a heart-warming concert celebrating the music of Eastern Europe will take place at Christ Church on 9th April. The concert will include works by Dvorak, Chopin and Ukrainian composers for piano, piano duet, violin and song with soprano Maria Danishvar, violin Matthew Taylor, piano Stephen Marquiss and Liz Kozlowski.

Saturday 16th April
A Makers Market at Chapmanslade Village Hall will be raising funds for the Red Cross DEC Humanitarian appeal. As well as local makers, artists and crafters selling their work there will also be a raffle, cakes and hot drinks.

The newly formed Slava Ukraini Ensemble will perform J.S Bach’s St John Passion at Christ Church. A renowned lineup of soloists as well as an orchestra on period instruments have all agreed to sing and play for nothing so that every penny raised can go towards charities helping Ukrainians fleeing the country.

29th April
Jackdaws Songbirds (Frome), Sounding it Out (Trowbridge), and Shreen Harmony (Mere) unite for Hei! Ukrayina: A Big Sing For Ukraine, an evening of acapella singing. Expect rousing and joyful informal performances from 100+ singers led by local choir leader Caroline Radcliffe, including songs from around the world, through the ages, and a special Ukrainian song.
