Positive Birth Movement Frome – What’s Birth Really Like?

March 27 @ 20:00 - 21:30

The Positive Birth Movement group in Frome is part of a global network of free to attend antenatal groups, linked up by social media. We connect pregnant women together to share stories, expertise and positivity about childbirth. We aim to challenge the epidemic of negativity and fear that surrounds modern birth, and help change birth for the better.

March topic: What’s Birth Really Like?

‘What’s positive birth?’

We believe a positive birth is one where:
• Women are where they want to be
• Choices are informed by reality not fear
• Women are listened to and treated with respect and dignity
• Mothers are empowered and enriched
• Memories are warm and proud

A positive birth means a birth in which a woman feels she has freedom of choice, access to accurate information, and that she is in control, powerful and respected. A birth that she approaches, perhaps with some trepidation, but without fear or dread, and that she then goes on to enjoy, and later remember with warmth and pride.

A positive birth does not have to be ‘natural’ or ‘drug free’ – it simply has to be informed from a place of positivity as opposed to fear. The Positive Birth Movement is woman-centred and as such respects a woman’s human right to choose where and how she has her baby.

You can birth with positivity in hospital or at home, with or without medical intervention. You can have a positive caesarean, or a positive home water birth. Positive Birth is about approaching birth realistically, having genuine choice, and feeling empowered by your experience.

What to expect: sessions are about an hour long and we start with a general topic to talk about . It’s not a taught class, but more of a space to share and talk. There will be tea / coffee and normally some tasty cake/snacks! You don’t need to pay for anything but if you’d like to contribute by bringing something to share or popping something in to cover costs that’s always most welcome.

Who comes: expectant and new parents, doulas, antenatal teachers, midwives and other birth pros sometimes join classes, as do people who’d like to share their positive experiences.
