Emergence Festival Returns for 2022

Emergence

Good news for art and music lovers as the Emergence Festival returns to Frome this autumn.  After the success of last year’s festival and thanks to funding from Frome Town Council the organisers have been able to extend this annual festival into a full weekend event.  The Silk Mill and Black Swan Arts will host a weekend of music, art, workshops, family activities and creative nourishment from Friday 30th September – Sunday 2nd October.

This immersive festival celebrates the creativity of all aspects of motherhood, while shining a light on the barriers mother* artists face both as practitioners and when trying to juggle the emotional burdens of motherhood – whether this be when trying to conceive, whilst bringing up children, carrying on after the loss of a child or even making the highly personal decision not to have children.  Through countless mediums such as art, music, comedy, dance, poetry and storytelling women and non-binary people from Frome and the surrounding areas will present their reflections on the varied and complex journey of motherhood.

Festival organiser Heather Truesdall says ‘It’s so exciting to be offering this festival to Frome again, the feedback from last year was fantastic and we’re so pleased that we can now run a full festival of events.  We’re hoping by extending the festival we’re really going to be able to offer something for everyone – parent or carer, young or old. It’s a celebration of creativity, the beauty in the unfinished and imperfect, and the unique intensity of the mothering journey.’
