Winter Mountain + Beth Porter and the Availables + Emma Ballantine

21st Nov 2014 @ 20:00 - 23:30

£10.00

The Green Room, the new monthly concert series presented at the Cheese and Grain in Frome, returns  with another brilliant line up of some of the best contemporary acoustic and roots performers on the scene today.
We will be featuring headliners Winter Mountain, who hail from Cornwall and Donegal. Individually they are Joe Francis and Marty Smyth. They perform melodic folk songs, with a modern edge, but a hat well and truly tipped towards the great music era of the 1950s and 1960s. Joe and Marty share song-writing duties, and their harmonies on the songs. When you hear their music, it will come as no surprise who influences the musicians; The Everly brothers, Lennon and McCartney, Lieber and Stoller, David and Bacharach, and Crosby Stills and Nash are among the many..
Supported by Beth Porter and the Availables – Beth has long been regarded as one of the country’s most in demand session musicians having played for the likes of Peter Gabriel, Eliza Carthy, Jackie Oates and Newton Faulkner to name but a few. However, after working with some of the countries finest songwriters, Beth is now showing her undeniable talent as a most talented composer in her own right and now Beth is delighted to introduce you to her own original project ‘Beth Porter and The Availables’.
and Emma Ballantine – Described as ‘a unique voice among modern songwriters’ by Resonance FM, London-based artist Emma Ballantine is rapidly becoming known for thought-provoking and original composition and compelling performance. Drawing on a love of words and storytelling, as well as influences ranging from folk and jazz to classical music, her music has an eclecticism and lyrical style reminiscent of a young Suzanne Vega or Tori Amos – with a touch of its own whimsicality.
