The Legendary Neville Staple And His Band

21st Dec 2018 @ 20:00 - 23:30

£20

“Nothing came close to the sensational Neville Staple Band who really got the party started and had the masses dancing along” Anita Merritt-Exeter Express & Echo.

Neville Staple, Legendary front man of The Specials, Fun Boy Three and Special Beat, also known as The Original Rude Boy, is credited with changing the face of pop music not only once but twice. His celebrates a super 40-year career in the music business which is well documented and started out from the early days with Ray King, Pete Waterman, The Coventry Automatics and his Jah Baddis Sound System, before taking to the stage with The Specials during the famous ‘Clash’ tour.

Neville’s 2-Tone legacy is huge. 2019 is the 40th Anniversary of the 2Tone Movement. “The way we brought ska to the mainstream was by mixing Jamaican music with the English style, which at the time was punk. The movement helped to transcend and defuse racial tensions in Thatcher-era Britain. The actual black and white chequered imagery of 2 Tone has become almost as famous as the music itself”. Neville states, “I remember the massive reactions to the hit songs like Ghost Town, Too Much Too Young and Gangsters and fans still write to me about my rugged, energetic and fun stage presence”.

“Out on his own, still pretty special” Record Collector:

Following on from the 2009 Specials reunion and his departure from the band in late 2012, Neville Staple continues to be a forerunner of the ska movement and continues to thrill audiences with his own excellent band. His recent Worldwide shows include Hong Kong, Europe and Australia, with the US and others planned for 2018 onwards.

Rude Rebels is the brilliant new ska/punk album by Sugary & Neville Staple (The Specials, Fun Boy 3, etc), featuring Roddy Radiation. It follows the recent sold out ‘Rudegirl Sounds’ EP.
Sugary and Neville wrote and produced this rebel-lishious offering, alongside Tom Lowry at Planet Studios in Coventry, which brings a super blend of punked up anthems, dancehall ska and sweet rebel reggae and bluebeat. Tracks like Rebel Down, Be as One and Original Rudegirl Sound, are reminiscent of the 1970’ & 80’s fun punky ska with 2Tone echoes, while Tattoo King and their reworking of Stranger Cole’s, When I Call Your Name, celebrates the traditions of ska. Alongside Roddy Byers excellent guitar arrangements, there is a host of musical professionals involved, including the Neville Staple Band, Daddy ‘Nuff Lyrics’ Woody and Alvin ‘Horn-blower’ Davies. They will be playing some new tracks at the shows from Rude Rebel.
