Saxon Frome Walk

Part of the Frome Walking Festival 2021.

Frome was founded in 685CE, and later became an important town in Saxon Wessex. Barely any Saxon remains can now be seen but the shape of the town centre today is rooted in those early years of the settlement.

This guided walk will explain what we know of Saxon Frome from its founding, through the rule of the Wessex kings including Alfred, Athelstan and Eadred, to the coming of the Normans.
