Roots Sessions – ”the best rootsy music about every Wednesday”
Phil has spent many years honing his craft as a performer on stages of all sizes around the UK, and Europe, picking up new fans wherever he plays. His taste as a writer and listener has always leaned towards the acoustic/folk/roots side of things, whether Robert Johnson or Big Bill Broonzy, Nick Drake or John Martyn, Bob Dylan or Neil Young. More recently, the likes of AA Bondy, Conor Oberst, Gillian Welch, Ryan Adams, Laura Marling, Fionn Regan and The Villagers have all had their influence.
His performances, to borrow the words of Tom Waits, are all about truth, and the conveyance of emotion, rather than impressive technical ability. His band mates on stage and on the new album all display their ability to sensitively serve the requirements of each song in their own way.
