Oakfield Choir Sing Verdi’s Requiem

19th May 2018 @ 19:30 - 22:00

£15

OAKFIELD CHOIR BRING VERDI REQUIEM TO HOLY TRINITY.
For their spring concert on Saturday 19 May, Oakfield Choir will perform in Frome, for the first time in living memory, one of the most enduring requiems ever and a landmark of the romantic era, the iconic Verdi Requiem.
Almost operatic in its scale, and in a category all of its own when it comes to requiems, this piece is rarely performed by a single choir and this performance is no exception as Oakfield will be joined by Bradford on Avon Choral Society giving audience members two choirs for the price of one as well as an unforgettable night of sublime melodies and powerful, emotive drama. Perhaps most famous for the electrically terrifying Dies irae motif, repeated throughout, and the stirring trumpets call to judgement in Tuba mirum it was written when Verdi was in his sixties in memory of the Italian poet and novelist, Alessandro Manzoni, whom Verdi greatly admired, and was first performed in Milan in 1874 to mark the first anniversary of Manzoni’s death.
The concert will be held at Holy Trinity Church and the choir, as always, will be led by musical director, Neil Moore with soloists Maria Danishvar (soprano), Marie Elliott (mezzo), Dominic Bevan (tenor), and Jeremy White (bass)
Performance starts 7.30pm. Tickets £15 (under 16 free) purchased from choir members, Hunting Raven Books, Frome, or reserved by telephone on 01373 464839. Tickets may be available on the door subject to prior demand.
