Natural Fibres Ancient and Modern

April 26 @ 10:30 - 12:30

Free

Talk by Simon Cooper from Flaxland UK –
Grow Bikes, Coracles, Fibre and Food all from one plant!

FREE talk but tickets need to be booked as there is limited space.
Go to Eventbrite.co.uk search Flaxland
Any questions – email sewingtheseedsfrome@gmail.com and please follow us on instagram @sewing_the_seeds_frome.

Simon will share his expertise not only on the historical aspects of flax which provides agricultural and industrial products, but also linen for fashion and maritime use. He will also chat about the future of the plant as a very sustainable crop with its potential to replace some fossil fuel based products and support bio-based industries.

This talk is another event of our ‘Sewing the Seeds’ Community project which has distributed flax seeds to more than 50 local participants who are growing a metre square of flax in and around Frome. With a practical application, the project aims to raise awareness of climate change, the benefits of gardening for wellbeing, and a greater understanding of how natural fibre clothing can be produced.
