John Ashe – The Greatest Clothier of his Time

Michael Gorman tells the story of 17th century MP and businessman John Ashe, regarded as ‘the greatest clothier of his time’ and credited with reviving the fortunes of the flagging cloth industry in north Somerset.

A devout Puritan, he was instrumental in rallying support for Parliament in the English Civil War, so as well as cloth, expect riots, secret trials, executions . . . and a rather famous statue.

Free although donations welcome on the night (all proceeds to Frome Museum).
