Health & Climate Change Action Conference

15th Jul 2022 @ 09:30 - 17:00

£22.50 – £70

Health and climate change – how are they linked? If we act to improve one, do we stand more hope of improving the other? And what impact can be achieved on the community level?

This one-day conference in Frome, Somerset, will:

  • show how firmly linked our health and the health of our climate are
  • involve all participants in considering the ways our communities can achieve health and climate change win-wins
  • share practical ideas and plans for widespread community action and health service innovation.

We care about having real exchanges, making best use of every moment we have together, inviting feedback on the examples and ideas you’ve heard and equipping everyone for a greener, healthier future.

At this event, you can expect to talk as much as you listen, be on your feet, immersed in examples of change, and leave having had thinking time in which to produce your own blueprint for change back in your community.

You will:

  • Hear about the successes and lessons learned from a live community climate action programme where one innovative community’s GPs, local council and a community organisation came together to tackle climate change and health challenges
  • Forge important new connections
  • Share your own experiences of overcoming obstacles to make effective actions to improve climate change and health outcomes stick
  • Problem-solve the challenges to replicating this in your own town – this will be especially effective if you come as a group with your opposite number in the health service, local government and/or community organisation

You will take away

  • Ideas for how you can build a green and healthy town or city.
  • Toolkits of Frome’s prototypes to tailor and scale in your community/town
  • New contacts and connections to a network of community-focused climate activists
  • Collective insights on making climate action stick

Our speakers will share their insights and inspire, but expect to spend just as much time building peer networks and reflecting on the changes you want to take home with you:

  • Dr Helen Kingston – Senior GP Partner, Frome Medical Practice
  • Jenny Hartnoll – Health Connections Mendip Lead
  • Johannes Moeller – Managing Director, Edventure:Frome
  • Nikki Brain – Resilience Officer, Frome Town Council

*More speakers to be announced*

About the hosts

This event is hosted by the Green & Healthy Future for Frome programme. Green & Healthy Future for Frome wants to achieve a health and climate win-win. How? By asking “what can we do to improve wellbeing in our town, whilst also improving the health of the planet?” This community-led initiative is based on the idea that people’s health and the health of the planet are intertwined – if we improve one, we’ll also improve the other and everyone will share in a better future. We are working together to ensure there are many ways to live greener and healthier lives in our town of Frome in Somerset. The programme is a partnership between Edventure: FromeFrome Medical PracticeFrome Town Council and our local community. Our programme is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.
