Nestling deep in the South Hams at the mouth of the little known river Avon, Bantham beach and Bigbury Bay are one of Devon’s premier beach locations. They offer beautiful scenery with panoramic views over the famous Burgh Island and beyond.
Bigbury Bay itself is a shallow sandy bay, which makes Bantham an ideal beach for swimming and paddling for everyone. Owing to the natural topography of the bay, Bantham also has a reputation as one of the best surf beaches in Devon.
At low tide the beach opens up to reveal acres of shallow sandy pools warming up quickly in the sun to create ideal bathing areas. Venture over to the South end of the beach and the low tide will expose a fantastic array of rockpools below the headland.
The estuary and surrounding area are a natural haven for wildlife and enjoyed by walkers ands runners using the coastal footpaths. Bantham remains unspoilt and the beach is managed with the aim of keeping it as natural as possible.
This summer you can surround yourself with people who will lift you higher, as we are offering you the chance to participate in a full on weekend of action, adventure and party in South Devon!
We could tell you this weekend will be a great way to kick start, reboot or continue your personal endeavor for fitness and weight loss goals, bore you with practical guidance, nutrition plans and dietary advice. Or we could simply inspire you.
At Affinity we believe in cutting out the cr#p and getting straight to the point. If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you, and if it didn’t change you, it never inspired you.
Train Hard. Take Risks. Make Friends. Live Life. This is AWOL.

Do I have to organise camping myself?
Yes you do, we will be posting in regards to our campsite of choice in our closed group for AWOL once your deposit has been paid. You will have sea views and the cost is just £7/person per night for caravans and campervans and £6/person per night for tents, with a minimum pitch charge of £10. Electric hook ups are £3 per day, and showers £1 a go.
Will you provide transportation between activities?
For those willing we will sort out drive sharing where needed, or you can drive yourself to the various activities when we are unable to travel by foot. Most this year though will be walkable too!
Do I have to have a certain fitness level?
AWOL is suitable for men & women, ages 18+ and all fitness levels. You may find some of the activities hard work without a basic level of fitness, and a good confidence in swimming is advisable too, but if you choose not to that is fine.
Do I have to stay 3 nights?
No you can stay just the Friday and Saturday/just Saturday night if you wish, activities will take place from dawn to dusk on the Saturday and until the afternoon of the Sunday. By arriving on the Friday early you will have time to set up, adjust and meet the crew, and by leaving first thing on the Monday we’ll get a chance to grab some food somewhere, chill out and relive the high of the weekend on the Sunday evening.
What will I get from this weekend?
Bar an adrenaline fueled weekend full of natural highs and making new friends, you will have access to photographs and a mini film made up of the whole experience to share with friends and family to humbly brag about, and our fitness experts will be on hand to offer advise and guidance, for you to continue your journey to a better you thereafter, if you so wish.
Can my partner/family come?
Sadly not, unless they wish to take part. We are capping the total of people at AWOL for a reason, if we allowed partners to come we could potentially be doubling the numbers coming. If your partner does want to come and space allows that is ok, but this will need to be passed with us. The cost for this would be £60 regardless of them not taking part in any of the main activities. Sadly children can not come either, this is an adult weekend.
How much does it all cost?
Early bird booking is only £175pp before April 31st 2019. £195 there after. This does not include the cost of camping.
Spaces are limited for this weekend. A non-refundable deposit of £55 is required to secure your place with us, with the remainder to be paid by April 31st 2019. Please note you can not transfer your space to someone else. If you do cancel you lose your deposit. If you cancel after payment in full is paid the same rules apply.
Please note acitivities are subject to change, and will take part on the Saturday and Sunday.
