The Stitchery, run by Aliss Vaas offers sewing tuition, making workshops and classes which are always small groups, so you get lots of attention. 1:1 bespoke tuition is also available.

Courses regularly offered include:

Sewing Beginners

Get started on your sewing journey! Learn to Sew in a small group with personalised tuition.

– Learn how to thread up your machine, wind on a bobbin and change a needle
– Try out different stitches and start sewing a few seams
– Practice new sewing techniques
– Make a useful project each week

Make Clothes

A great course if have some sewing skills, ideally you’ll have completed Beginner Sewing already. Use a commercial paper pattern to make a garment – suggest for first timers a simple skirt, top or trousers.You’ll have the option to learn:

– Inserting a zip
– Adding facing / interfacing
– Finishing seams and hems

About Aliss

Aliss trained in Fashion Design and Pattern Cutting at Art School, has worked alongside designers in London and made stage costumes for theatres in Brighton & Chichester. She’s taken courses in Lantern Building, Banner Making and Carnival Arts. She has a L4 City and Guilds Tutor Qualification and an Enhanced DBS.

Aliss also heads up the Frome Lantern Parade with Mel Day, now an annual town Christmas event!
