What are your plans for the first bank holiday weekend in May, and do they involve spending time making the most of Frome?
If so, amazing! If not, don’t worry – maybe we can convince you to stay local for the weekend and enjoy what our town has to offer. Frome may be small, but it is mighty and we can promise you that you won’t be bored. Here’s a few suggestions below to get you started…
Friday
- Head into the long weekend in style with Dress Up Friday, a recurring weekly affair throughout the month of May as part of the Frome Connects project.
- Don’t waste a good outfit for nothing! Why not enjoy a delicious meal out at one of our wonderful establishments: Castello, Coop Kitchen at The Ship, Little Walcot, Rye Pizzeria, Sterk and The High Pavement are all bangers and just a few of the many in Frome.
- If you’re just in town for the weekend, or fancy a night away from home, try the comfort of a room at the Archangel, George Hotel, Bistro Lotte or The Talbot (a little further out, in Mells).
Saturday
- Spend the day with nature right on the town’s doorstep, with a Spring Bird Walk at Rodden Meadow followed by a wonderful seasonal festival at Vallis Farm.
- Treat yourself to coffee and cake from Cafe La Strada, Cheese & Grain cafe, Loud Mouth, Moo & Two, Cafe Leat, Projects or Rye Bakery to power you through.
- Wander the many independent shops and winding streets in Frome and support some of our small local businesses.
Sunday
- Always a popular one, the Frome Independent market is on 10am – 3pm throughout the town centre. Catch the Magpie Market inside the Cheese & Grain too from 9am – 2pm.
- Spend Sunday evening relaxing in a cosy pub corner. Try out Palmer St Bottle, The Three Swans, Bar Lotte (live music here too), Rye Wine Bar, The Stores, The Crown, The Green Room, Flow Bar and Saddle Goose to name a few. Go on, it’s a bank holiday!
Monday
- Let’s get out and about! Enjoy some of Frome’s green spaces, or take a walking or cycling route out into the beautiful surrounding countryside.
- If you’d prefer to stay in, why not visit our beautiful little cinema, head to Black Swan Arts for their galleries, or burn off energy at Frome Boulder Rooms.
As always, we’ve chosen just a few options, but you are free to make your bank holiday weekend as you see fit. For even more ideas and inspiration, browse our website here.
