Great Big Green Week 2025 – line up just dropped! 💚

Everyone stay calm – the official line up has just dropped! Great Big Green Week is BACK this June, possibly greater and greener than ever. Choose from 30 events throughout the week, 7th – 15th June. From group cycle rides and clothes swaps, to cheese tastings and river festivals, Great Big Green Week has it all.

Frome’s Great Big Green Week is a celebration of our community and green spaces, taking meaningful action towards tackling climate change. Most of this year’s events are free, with many open to all ages and interests. If you are concerned about the ecological impact on our planet, there is sure to be an event you will love, that you can leave feeling inspired to make change and embrace all things sustainable.

This year’s programme is split into six categories:

Fashion

Clothes swap at the Silk MillGet swapping with Frome Wardrobe Collective’s Big Green Clothes Swap on 11th June! Bring your garments for a new lease of life and take home preloved treasures. Clothes swaps are great for refreshing your wardrobe and embracing slow fashion.

Find out more about the world of upcycling and second-hand goods with Everyone Needs Pockets. Come along for talks, a haberdashery swap, a chance to network and enjoy a delicious shared lunch on 13th June.

Also on 13th June, support a great cause and purchase a blank organic T-shirt, sweatshirt or hoodie. This ChariTee: Refresh your Wardrobe for a Good Cause sale raises funds for Frome charity Fair Frome.

Nature

Enjoy a community morning at the Tiny Forest in Egford Park on 7th June. Take part in some citizen science, try your hand at some light gardening, get involved in some fun activities and more. Bring a picnic and make a day of it!

Local author and ancient tree specialist Julian Hight is leading another Frome Heritage Tree Walk on 8th June. Julian shares his knowledge of the history, legacy and lore of Frome’s most majestic trees.

Discover how to create your very own ‘Pocket Meadow’ with a talk on 10th June. A small wildflower space that supports pollinators and brings nature back into everyday community spaces.

On 11th June, youngsters and their grown ups are invited to a Family Pond Dip and Bug Hunt with Science Boost CIC from 1:30pm to 2:30pm.

Round up the family for some hands-on, nature-themed activities with the Wild Bunch at their Nature Afternoon on 12th June. Set in the grounds of Christchurch, this is a chance to connect with nature, explore flora and fauna and enjoy the outdoors.

River Festival Head to Heal Somerset for their Dusk Chorus Walk on 13th June for a peaceful end to the day. Soak in the sounds of nature, guided by expert Nick Patel who will help identify birdsong and any other wildlife residents.

On 14th June, Bioblitz Nature Festival at Vallis Farm celebrates all things biodiversity on their beautiful site! Take part in scavenger hunts, wild clay workshops, species-spotting with iNaturalist and much more.

Join Friends of the River Frome and Frome Families for the Future’s River Vision Festival on 15th June! Take a paddle to see what’s beneath the water’s surface, embark on a captivating storytelling journey along the riverbanks and get creative with fun arts and crafts.

Also on 15th June, learn more about how we can help Our Prickly Pals – hedgehogs. Keyford Hedgehog Rescue look into the reasons for their decline, and focus on how we can help, or even grow, the local population.

Wellbeing

Contact ImprovisationBreathwork practitioner Esther Dickinson holds two sessions during Great Big Green Week. Journey with the Breath on 14th June is designed to connect to the breath, ground and practise mindfulness. Also on 14th June, Esther’s Contact Improvisation session combines movement and breathwork with nature, bringing together connection with ourselves, the earth and to each other.

Food & Growing

Food, Folk and Fire, a community-focused day filled with hands-on nature activities, delicious meal cooked on the fire, and fun for all ages.

Frome Farmers' MarketSpend time working with the team at 42 Acres at their Permaculture Volunteer Day on 11th June. Learn regenerative growing skills, with opportunities also for meditation and nature connection, ending in a shared lunch.

Savour the flavours at the Community Fridge’s Cheese for Change event on 14th June! Not only do you have the chance to enjoy a selection of cheese paired with local cider, but you are also supporting efforts to combat food waste in our community.

Also on 14th June, head into town from Frome Farmers’ Market and Frome Weekly Market. Browse high quality produce from local, nature-friendly producers, all whilst supporting small businesses.

Taking Action

Donate IT are back for another Tech Amnesty on 8th June. Donate any old devices, such as phones, laptops, consoles and cameras, and Donate IT will repair and rehome.

How could you expand your capacities as a creative practitioner to respond to the Earth Crisis? Join the Arts-led Action online workshop on 11th June to find out more on how creatives can make meaningful impact towards climate activism.

Jenny Lachs' Imaginarium workshopOn 12th June, take part in Imaginarium: A Collective Imagination Game – an interactive workshop where we imagine what Frome could look like, 10 years from now. Could we be an even greener community?

A popular Great Big Green Week event, come along to this year’s Big Green Summer Meetup on 12th June. Its a chance to celebrate the wonderful sustainable initiatives in our town, connect with others and share successes.

Green Hacks Day, taking place on 14th June, is set to be a lively, hands-on day, bringing together a community of expert makers, fixers, growers and doers. A day of workshops, demos, advice and more, all with the aim of sharing simple ways to live more sustainably.

Cycling

Frome Community Bike Project are heading up the cycling events this year.

Take the whole family out for a couple of hours with the Family Bike Ride and Picnic on 8th June, a gentle 2.5mile loop around Frome’s green spaces with a stop for picnic lunch.

If you’d like to gain some more confidence on our streets whilst on wheels, you can Book a Bike Ride Buddy for various dates during the week.

Need some bike maintenance advice or a quick check-over? Head to a Drop-in Dr Bike session at Frome Community Bike Project’s workshop, or join them for a social group cycle ride. Choose from a Bike Ride to Stourhead on 12th June, or a Bike Ride to Tytherington on 13th June.Group cycle ride
