Cycling is one of the best ways to get around, and lets you do everything from a challenging trail to a meander around villages, all whilst getting a bit of exercise in. The Somerset countryside is full of lovely scenery and interesting paths, and cycling is a great way to get out and about and explore Frome and the surrounding areas.
Frome lies on Route 24 of the National Cycling Network which runs from the historical city of Bath, all the way down to Hampshire. Route 24 travels along the Colliers Way – a cycling and walking path between Dundas Aqueduct and Frome, which makes use of disused railway lines and quiet country lanes. Frome’s Missing Links group are a dedicated community group campaigning for the full completion of the Colliers Way, to create new links between Frome and the surrounding villages – take a look at the Missing Links website if you’re interested in finding out more.
Just south of the town, Route 24 links up with Route 25 which will take you through the Longleat Estate.
For those just wanting to explore the town but put off by the hills, you can hire an Ebike to take some of the strain.
If you’re looking for help and advice about cycling in and around Frome, take a look at Frome Community Bike Project’s website for more details. They’re more than happy to help, offering guided bike rides, advice sessions, secondhand bike sales, ebike hire and more.
