The evening begins with a bold, abridged production of Macbeth, reimagined in 1920s Small Heath, Birmingham. In a world of razor gangs, smoky backrooms, and shifting loyalties, ambition and prophecy collide as rival gang members vie for power. When a trusted lieutenant hears a prediction that he will become the next leader, a dangerous chain of events is set in motion. As loyalty crumbles and paranoia grows, the cost of ruthless ambition becomes impossible to escape.
This contemporary interpretation brings Shakespeare’s tragedy into the gritty underworld of post-war Birmingham, where power is taken, not given, and every alliance carries a price.
Following Macbeth, the young performers present a selection of Shakespearean monologues, showcasing some of the playwright’s most powerful speeches. These moments offer a glimpse into the rich emotional worlds of Shakespeare’s characters. Full of passion, conflict, humour, and humanity, it gives our actors the chance to step into a range of unforgettable roles.
