A guided heritage walk looking at some of the Victorian and Edwardian social history of the town of Frome. What is ‘kind’ and what is ‘unkind’? Has the definition changed over time? Is kindness shown in the material history of our town? Or is true kindness always a private act between friends and neighbours, private at the time and invisible to us now? We aim to leave you thinking about how the history of kindness ‘is complicated’.
Guide Lisa Kenwright is a historian and storyteller who created this walk to explore these questions about the social history of Frome through its built environment for the 2025 Frome Kindness Festival, organised by local non-profit The Good Heart.
Anyone with an interest in local history should enjoy this walk but it will include (non-graphic) mention of adult themes and cruelty so is not suitable for younger children.
The walk is over pavement at a fairly slow pace, step-free but with some hills to negotiate. We will start in Victoria Park by the Weymouth Road entrance and finish in Trinity Street.
As there is a limited amount of spaces for this walk, make sure you book early via The Good Heart website.
