Lucy Hewson (violin) and Matthew Greswell (cello) perform Zoltán Kodály’s breathtaking duo. Immersed in Hungarian folk music from an early age, Kodály later collected and transcribed folk music with Béla Bartók in the early years of the 20th Century. His fabulous 1914 duo combines these traditions with his Western musical training in Paris and the influence of Debussy. The music is by turns dramatic, anguished, melodic and modal with a leaping Hungarian dance finale. This concert is the first in this year’s Christ Church Lunchtime Series, replacing the Chris Hurn concert listed in the brochure.
