Could Frome be the UK’s Town of Culture 2028?

Frome has officially taken the first step towards becoming the UK’s Town of Culture for 2028, following the submission of an expression of interest from Frome Town Council.

The Town of Culture programme celebrates towns where culture is part of everyday life, and where creativity can play a role in strengthening communities, improving wellbeing and supporting local economies. Frome’s bid builds on the town’s strong cultural foundations, from its nationally recognised venues and organisations to its thriving network of festivals, markets and community-led activity such as the Carnival and the Children’s Festival.

If Frome is chosen to be the UK’s Town of Culture 2028, this could mean an incredible investment of £3 million for the town. The funding would support new cultural projects, creative opportunities and long-term investment for local people, building on everything that already makes Frome, Frome.

If shortlisted, Frome will be granted £60,000 to develop its full application, which will be shaped with help from residents, local businesses and community organisations, and the town’s young people.

Two finalist towns will each receive £250,000, with one town awarded £3 million to deliver its programme.

We are strongly encouraging the people of Frome to share their ideas, hopes and big cultural dreams for what our Town of Culture programme could look like. Use FTC’s new digital platform, My Frome, to share what culture in Frome means to you, and what you’d love to see happen next. ❤️
