King of Fools

Kairos Theatre presents an hilarious new musical by Martin Dimery (“Shakespeare Rattle and Roll,” The Unravelling Wilburys” etc.) and Helen Turner (Style Council; Paul Weller Band etc.) Under the direction of Anne Dimery, Kairos Theatre most recently staged “Blackadder” and the more serious “Haunting of Richard the Third.”

“King of Fools” is set in the court of Henry VIII where Anne Boleyn needs cheering up. Henry’s famous jester, Will Sommers, discovers a talented barmaid called Jane who becomes Anne’s personal Fool, following an “X Factor” type audition. As Henry’s affections change, Jane finds it’s not only Anne’s head on the block.

Featuring a score that draws on rock, ballads and music hall, “King of Fools,” features a live band under the musical direction of Helen Turner, who has appeared in Live Aid at Wembley and the Main Stage at Glastonbury. The show humorously makes the connection between Tudor courtly intrigue and more topical events. For anyone who loves the historical satires of Mel Brooks and Ben Elton.
