Civic Imaginaries of Frome: Community-Led Film Screening

Join us to watch 6 short films created by Frome residents about life in Frome, past, present and future, created as part of the Civic Imaginary Partnerships research project!

Since November 2025, a group of Frome residents have been working with the Civic Imaginary Partnerships research project and filmmaker John Sealey to develop, film and edit short films based on life in Frome. Saturday 15th August is the first official screening of the films – all welcome!

Timings:

11am-12pm – First official screening of all 6 films, followed by a Q&A with some of the filmmakers and researchers. All free to attend, includes a free drink from the Victoria Park cafe! If you would like to reserve a seat, please email civicimaginaries@glasgow.ac.uk

12-4pm – The 6 films shown on a loop, drop-in to watch as little or as much as you can!

The film screening is hosted at Victoria Park Community Café Cinema (an outdoor cinema with 35 seats and additional standing room), with thanks to the café and Frome Climate Film Festival for their support with organising and screening equipment. The event is taking place on the same day as Frome Carnival Family Funday and Dog Show, also in Victoria Park. Check out their stalls and activities too!

The venue is accessible with level access, suitable for wheelchair users, and inclusive to all. If you have a noise sensitivity, you may wish to bring ear defenders to watch the films.

Civic Imaginary Partnerships is a four‑year research project led by the University of Glasgow, exploring how people think, feel, dream and sense the futures of the places where they live. Our partners in Frome are Frome Town Council and Edventure. Feel free to speak to the research team if you’d like to know more (civicimaginaries@glasgow.ac.uk).

If you can’t attend but would like to see the short films created by Frome residents, we will also be exhibiting and screening them on Saturday 19th September at the Silk Mill (Merchants Barton, Frome BA11 1PT) and they will be displayed on our project website in future.
