Power Film: Power Station

POWER STATION is a bold, funny and heartwarming documentary about what happens when neighbours come together to take power – quite literally – into their own hands. Set in Walthamstow, the film follows artists Hilary Powell and Dan Edelstyn as they attempt to turn their street into a solar-powered energy station, kickstarting a grassroots energy revolution inspired by lockdown mutual aid.

Directed by the duo, the film captures a turbulent journey filled with big ideas, setbacks and unexpected moments of joy – from rooftop campouts and community meetings to fundraising challenges and a surprise bid for a Christmas number one single. At its heart, POWER STATION is a celebration of local action, shared ambition and the belief that change can start right outside your front door.

Following the screening, audiences are invited to stay for a Q&A panel exploring the themes of the film and what community energy, creativity and collaboration could look like in Frome.

Matt Mellen, Climate Action Lead at Frome Town Council, said: “POWER STATION captures something really special – the moment when ordinary people decide to work together and imagine something better. Frome has a proud history of community-led action, and this film is a timely reminder of how imagination and collective effort can help shape a more sustainable future.”

This event forms part of Frome Town Council’s ongoing commitment to supporting community-led responses to the climate and ecological emergency, while creating welcoming spaces for conversation, inspiration and connection.
