Iyengar Yoga Classes
Iyengar Yoga classes run at RISE on Tuesdays, 6:40pm – 8:10pm. Classes run throughout the year with breaks during school holidays and half terms.
Iyengar Yoga is suitable for people of all ages, abilities, and fitness levels, those with injuries or limitations, and those seeking to deepen their yoga practice. The RISE class is a small friendly group of mixed ability and experience, but not suitable for complete beginners. The class is aimed at those with some experience of yoga and who would like to develop their practice.
Iyengar Yoga focuses on body alignment in the asanas (poses) while engaging with the breath. BKS Iyengar wanted to share the experience of yoga with everyone so pioneered the use of props such as belts, bricks or chairs to make poses more accessible to those with stiffness and injuries, but they may also be used to bring about more depth of awareness in one’s posture.
Some benefits of yoga practice are improved posture, increased flexibility and strength, a sense of calm and wellbeing after a class.
Fiona has been teaching for 33 years and has a Senior Iyengar Yoga teacher’s certificate as well as training in yoga therapy. Please contact Fiona directly for further details or to book.
