Kairos Theatre: King of Fools

On sale to Friends of Frome Festival Fri 15 May
General on sale Sun 17 May

A Special Gala Performance to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Frome Festival “King of Fools” is a new musical comedy written by former Frome Festival Director Martin Dimery in musical collaboration with Helen Turner, formerly of the Style Council and Paul Weller’s band.

It premiered last year at The Merlin Theatre to great acclaim and is revived by locally based Kairos Theatre Company for a West Country tour.

Will Sommers finds the job of keeping Henry the Eighth amused almost impossible as the royal divorce goes through interminable delays. Will discovers a young barmaid called Jane in a Cheapside Tavern, entertaining the regulars. He thinks Jane could be the ideal companion and female jester for Anne Boleyn.

Will presents her at court as “Jane Fool,” and she becomes an instant success. He has also secretly fallen in love with her. Thomas Cromwell, however, sees Jane as the perfect stooge to enact Anne’s downfall.

“Funny, clever and brilliantly performed.”
“Splendid book, music, singing, dancing, and acting”
