Join us to learn new skills\, spend time in nature\, and connect with like-minded folk. \nCome and spend a few hours in nature doing something that matters. No experience is necessary\, just a willingness to get stuck in and try something new. \n42 Acres has been a rewilding nature reserve for over a decade and is species-rich. Join us to connect with the natural world through hands-on activities from wildlife surveying\, to tending habitats\, and slowing down with nature photography. \nSessions run on the last Sunday of the month 10am-2pm (except in May when we are meeting at 8pm for bats and beavers!). There will be time to connect\, wander\, and simply be outside. If you’re up for it\, you’re welcome to join in for a wild swim too. At 1pm we’ll stop and share a simple lunch together\, provided by 42 Acres. \n____ \nSun 31 May: Bats and Beavers: \nPart of the Great Somerset Wildlife Count\, with guest expert Keith Ball (Somerset Bat Group). Please note: this is an evening session\, running 8–10pm\, as we head out for some gentle nocturnal exploration. \nSun 28 June: Hazel Dormice & Reading Nature: \nJoin us to create footprint tunnels for hazel dormice to discover whether this protected species (that have been spotted on neighbouring land!) exist at 42. We’ll also take a relaxed walk around the 11-acre lake\, recording observations and contributing to global biodiversity databases. We’ll look for signs of beaver activity\, tracks\, and birdlife\, and finish at the white stork enclosure\, part of our species reintroduction work. Guided by Lynne Sewell (Sustainable Witham)\, Robyn Caple (@nestandnettleecology)\, and Lisa Hawes (42 Acres). \nSun 26 July: Butterflies\, Dragonflies + Pond Dipping: \nPart of the UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme\, one of the longest-running insect surveys in the world. Or take a creative route\, help us start making a handmade herbarium for the site while learning how to “key out”\, a step by step process used to identify unknown plant species. \nSun 27 Sep: Trees\nDiscover the stories of Britain’s ancient and veteran trees\, and learn how to identify and photograph them in their late-summer form. \nSun 25 Oct: Harvest Mice and Native Fungi:\nHelp us ascertain whether harvest mice are present on the land at 42\, we’ll search together for their tiny nests. SUMMARY:Fungi Field Trip: An Autumn Walk Exploring Fungi\, Mycelium & Woodland Ecology
DESCRIPTION:It’s peak fungi season\, so we’re heading out on a Fungi Field Trip to see what the woods are fruiting. \nWe’ll begin with a warming medicinal mushroom tea\, introductions\, and a chance to meet the group before heading out into the woodland. \nAs we wander\, we’ll learn how to read the clues fungi give us: shape\, colour\, texture\, scent\, habitat\, and the trees and plants growing nearby. The walk is suitable for complete beginners\, but there’ll be plenty for anyone looking to sharpen their ID skills and deepen their understanding. \nWe’ll also zoom out from individual mushrooms to the bigger fungal picture\, exploring the mycelial networks beneath our feet\, the relationships fungi form with plants and trees\, and their essential role in decomposition\, regeneration\, and woodland ecology. Along the way\, we’ll touch on some traditional culinary and medicinal uses too. \nThis is primarily a no-pick walk\, with the focus on observation\, identification\, and curiosity rather than filling baskets. We’ll also explore responsible foraging and what it might mean to have a more respectful\, reciprocal relationship with the fungal world. \nExpect mushrooms\, mycelium\, ecology\, good conversation\, and an afternoon of looking at the forest a little differently. \nNo previous knowledge needed. Just curiosity and suitable footwear. \nPlease note: this is an observational walk\, not a foraging event. We won’t be collecting or consuming psychedelic mushrooms. \nUnder 18s are very welcome when accompanied by an adult\, but everyone attending will need their own ticket. \nThe event will take place in woodland near Frome. Exact meeting details and what to bring will be shared in the week before the event. You’ll need your own transport\, so if you need a lift\, bring a mate with a car and make a night of it.

SUMMARY:No Dig with Charles Dowding at The Village Frome
DESCRIPTION:Charles Dowding is coming to The Village Frome for a special two-hour workshop on no dig growing. \nFor more than 40 years\, Charles has been exploring how we can grow healthy\, abundant food while disturbing the soil as little as possible. His no dig approach is rooted in a simple idea: feed the soil from the surface with compost and organic matter\, then allow its extraordinary web of life to do the work beneath. \nDuring this workshop\, Charles will share the foundations of no dig growing\, including how to create and maintain productive beds\, work with compost\, manage weeds and grow more food with less time and effort. \nWhether you have an allotment\, a vegetable patch\, a community garden or simply the beginnings of an idea\, this workshop will offer practical knowledge and encouragement for growers at every stage. \nAt The Village\, we are creating a place where people can gather\, learn and rebuild a relationship with the land and with one another. We are delighted to welcome Charles to share his experience as our own community growing spaces continue to take root. \nWith support from The National Lottery Community Fund\, we are able to offer tickets on a sliding scale of £3\, £6 or £9. Please pay what you can. Every ticket helps us continue growing The Village and creating more opportunities for people to learn\, gather and connect with the land. \nPlaces are limited and advance booking is essential. If you book and later find that you cannot attend\, please cancel your ticket so we can offer the place to someone else. \nThe Village is an outdoor\, land-based site\, so please come dressed for the October weather and wear suitable footwear. Full arrival information will be sent before the workshop

SUMMARY:Frome Storytelling Circle – October session
DESCRIPTION:Frome Storytelling Circle is a monthly local group for practicing the art of traditional oral storytelling in a friendly\, relaxed setting. \nThe shapes of the stories may be old\, but the behaviours they describe and the lessons they teach are as common and as applicable nowadays as they ever were. Each teller has their own style and their own tone and they tell a given story in their own way. \nWe welcome all sorts of stories told from memory: folktales\, fairy tales\, myths\, legends\, contemporary and personal. Stories should be limited to 10 minutes\, and there is no need to book a slot in advance. \nAll tellers are welcome\, from experienced yarn spinners to newcomers who would like to have a try at this oldest art. \nListeners are very welcome – what is a story without an audience? There is no pressure to tell a story\, and we love welcoming good listeners into the space. \nAttendance is free\, though we welcome cash donations on the night to help cover the cost of room hire and poster printing. \nFrome Storytelling Circle is hosted and organised by Bridget\, Lesley\, Mike\, Ruth and Steph. We meet upstairs in The Three Swans pub – so grab a drink at the bar\, come up and join us.

SUMMARY:Punk Rock Factory
DESCRIPTION:High-energy\, punk rock powerhouses Punk Rock Factory are heading to Frome this October! Formed in 2014 Peej (vocals\, guitar)\, Benj (bass\, vocals)\, Ryan (guitar) and Kob (drums\, vocals)\, were drawn together for their love of great music. The band quickly began to combine everything we all love about 1990s/2000s punk rock with classic and hit songs like you’ve never heard before. From the epic-ness of Meat Loaf to the soaring power of a Disney ballad\, nothing is off limits to them. \nPunk Rock Factory rehearse\, write\, record\, mix\, and film everything themselves in their studio called ‘The Sausage Factory’ with a heavy focus on digital content. With an online following of almost a million fans spread across the world’s most popular social media platforms (TikTok making up a huge 500k of those) they show no signs of slowing down. They frequently bring friends along to their music to enjoy the fun and to date the band has had guest performances from members of acts such as Protest the Hero\, Bowling for Soup\, Ice Nine Kills\, Mest\, Rufio\, Ten Foot Pole\, Zebrahead aswell as Encanto star Jessica Darrow and many more. \nShortly after the success of their first album ‘The Wurst Is Yet To Come’ the band got to work on their second album ‘A Whole New Wurst’ in 2020 throughout UK lockdown. Consisting entirely of Disney classics with their unique punk rock twist it became an instant success. In only two months the album gained over 2.4 million streams and reached #48 in the UK album download charts. \nNow with four albums\, their first ever live show (a festival appearance at Bloodstock Open Air to a capacity crowd of 7000 people) under their belts\, PRF set out on their first UK tour. Selling out many of the shows including venues in London\, Cardiff\, Manchester and Birmingham\, they brought their passion and party spirit right to the stage\, garnering rave reviews of their live performances and showmanship from all over the country. Now comfortably sitting at over 15 million streams on Spotify alone and 40 million views on TikTok\, it’s quite safe to say Punk Rock Factory have arrived and are here to stay. \nIn 2025 Kob left the band to pursue other endeavours. The remaining members continue to release music\, tour the world\, and bring people together through nostalgia\, a love for music and popular culture. The band to kick-start 2026 played their biggest to date UK tour selling out some of the UK’s biggest venues. Preparing for their largest ever headline show on Halloween in London\, Punk Rock Factory make their long overdue Cheese and Grain debut!
