SUMMARY:New Old Friends: Crimes on the Christmas Express
DESCRIPTION:An all-new hilarious Christmas comedy thriller from the people behind Crimes Against Christmas last year. \nTommy Albyn\, the whisky laird\, has died\, and an eccentric cast of characters who hope to inherit his wealth are summoned for a perilous train ride through the Scottish Highlands in the dead of winter before his will can be read. Will they all survive? Spoiler alert: no. But it’ll be fun to watch the ride. \nThe plot is sort of Succession meets The Traitors meets Murder on the Orient Express\, but as with all New Old Friends shows is mainly a vehicle for the fun of watching four talented actors play multiple roles with lightning-fast costume changes\, set pieces as clever as they are ridiculous\, plenty of visual gags\, and some wonderfully witty wordplay. \nWe are utterly thrilled that our multi-award-winning associate company is presenting this world premiere at the Merlin. The 2025 show sold incredibly well\, and the word is out now\, so we expect this to sell out. Booking early is strongly advised.\nHeadline show sponsor: Brûler \nNew Old Friends is a Merlin Associate Company \nTickets: £15 early bird special until September\nAfter September: £17 | Concessions including Blue Light Card: £15\nAge Guidance: 12+\nRunning Time: 100 minutes plus interval

SUMMARY:Derek vs Derek
DESCRIPTION:*Screened Performance* \nWhat do you do when your neighbour goes completely wild? \nOn a country road in Devon\, intensive dairy farmer Derek Banbury is horrified at the “devastation” of his neighbour’s once productive farm. Dubbed a “maverick rewilder” by the media\, Derek Gow is an unrepentant ex-sheep farmer hellbent on turning his land into an oasis for nature. \nAward-winning director James Dawson’s new documentary is set in the rolling hills of Devon\, telling the story of two neighbouring farmers who share the same name but take radically different approaches to land use. \nIn equal parts hilarious and moving\, the film shines a light on the vital debate surrounding the future of rural Britain\, encouraging conversation around how farming and nature restoration might work together.

SUMMARY:The Royal Opera: Così Fan Tutte
DESCRIPTION:*Screened Performance* \nSpurred on by a bet\, two young men hatch a plan to test the fidelity of their girlfriends. What follows is a slippery game of seduction and power\, the four lovers plunging into a dizzying world of shifting reality\, where truth becomes increasingly unstable. \nCosì fan tutte has lost none of its sting since it first scandalised audiences in 1790. In her Main Stage debut\, Netia Jones\, Associate Director of The Royal Opera\, reimagines Mozart’s comedy of manners through a sharp contemporary lens\, where 18th-century romantic trickery meets deeply satirical high-tech deceit. Taking on the roles of the lovers is an exciting young cast led by Louise Alder\, Simone McIntosh\, Mingjie Lei and Huw Montague Rendall\, with Gerald Finley as their manipulative game-master Don Alfonso and Emily Pogorelc as Despina. Thomas Hengelbrock conducts\, bringing out the exquisite melodies that underpin the provocative\, and resolutely modern\, themes at the heart of the opera.\nSung in Italian with English subtitles. \nRunning Time: 210 minutes\, one interval\nTickets: £18\nFriends of Merlin: £15 \nBOOK TICKETS

SUMMARY:The Royal Ballet: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
DESCRIPTION:*Screened Performance* \nAt a garden party on a sunny afternoon\, Alice is surprised to see her parents’ friend Lewis Carroll transform into a white rabbit. When she follows him down a rabbit hole\, events become curiouser and curiouser…As Alice journeys through Wonderland\, she encounters countless strange creatures. She’s swept off her feet by the charming Knave of Hearts\, who’s on the run for stealing the tarts. Confusion piles upon confusion. Then Alice wakes with a start. Was it all a daydream? \nChristopher Wheeldon’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland burst onto the stage in 2011 in an explosion of colour\, stage magic and inventive\, sophisticated choreography. Joby Talbot’s score combines contemporary soundworlds with sweeping melodies that gesture to ballet scores of the 19th century. Bob Crowley’s wildly imaginative\, eye-popping designs draw on everything from puppetry to projections to make Wonderland wonderfully real. The result shows The Royal Ballet at its best\, bringing together world-class dance with enchanting family entertainment and ingenious music and design. \nRunning Time: 170 minutes\, two intervals\nTickets: £18\nFriends of Merlin: £15 \nBOOK TICKETS
