SUMMARY:Nexus exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Nexus brings three artists together for a diverse exhibition of work\, examining different styles that share commonalities through their collective interpretation of colour\, composition\, and form. \nThis exhibition combines different approaches to contemporary art under one roof. Influenced by our individual experiences and ways of portraying the world\, Mark Elliott Smith\, Bernard Charnley and Kate Cochrane\, collaborate and provoke our perspectives and insights into specific genres. \nMark Elliott Smith’s work brings something new to abstraction. Inspired by dance and costume\, mediaeval art\, and his response to music\, he builds images which are analogues of the process of construction and destruction\, fragmentation and coherence. Painting in layers of flat acrylic colour\, his work animates space while creating the illusion of depth\, imparting an energising\, positive sense of possibility through his playful use of colour and form. \nBernard Charnley combines layered oil paint with oil bars and inserted sections of canvas\, creating work which moves between abstraction and figuration\, examining the relationships between geometry\, surface\, depth\, and illusion as imprints of the human. His interest in philosophy informs his portfolio of work\, which reflects on the nature of social fracture. \nKate Cochrane works in a variety of media\, including oils\, acrylics\, gouache\, and dry pastels. We will start the day with tea\, coffee\, fruit and pastries followed by a guided walk around our beautiful rewilding site. DESCRIPTION:A relaxed\, monthly volunteer gathering to support nature restoration. Rooted in a spirit of community and curiosity. Join us to learn new skills\, spend time in nature\, and connect with like-minded folk. \nCome and spend a few hours in nature doing something that matters. No experience is necessary\, just a willingness to get stuck in and try something new. \n42 Acres has been a rewilding nature reserve for over a decade and is species-rich. Join us to connect with the natural world through hands-on activities from wildlife surveying\, to tending habitats\, and slowing down with nature photography. \nSessions run on the last Sunday of the month 10am-2pm (except in May when we are meeting at 8pm for bats and beavers!). There will be time to connect\, wander\, and simply be outside. If you’re up for it\, you’re welcome to join in for a wild swim too. At 1pm we’ll stop and share a simple lunch together\, provided by 42 Acres. \n____ \nSun 31 May: Bats and Beavers: \nPart of the Great Somerset Wildlife Count\, with guest expert Keith Ball (Somerset Bat Group). Please note: this is an evening session\, running 8–10pm\, as we head out for some gentle nocturnal exploration. \nSun 28 June: Hazel Dormice & Reading Nature: \nJoin us to create footprint tunnels for hazel dormice to discover whether this protected species (that have been spotted on neighbouring land!) exist at 42. We’ll also take a relaxed walk around the 11-acre lake\, recording observations and contributing to global biodiversity databases. We’ll look for signs of beaver activity\, tracks\, and birdlife\, and finish at the white stork enclosure\, part of our species reintroduction work. Guided by Lynne Sewell (Sustainable Witham)\, Robyn Caple (@nestandnettleecology)\, and Lisa Hawes (42 Acres). \nSun 26 July: Butterflies\, Dragonflies + Pond Dipping: \nPart of the UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme\, one of the longest-running insect surveys in the world. With guest expert Fred Giles\, we’ll explore the world of butterflies\, dragonflies\, and other insects\, with a chance to get closer through pond dipping and observation. \nSun 30 Aug: Reptiles and Botanics: \nJoin us to check reptile refuges across the site\, helping us understand which species are present (and which are likely absent). Or take a creative route\, help us start making a handmade herbarium for the site while learning how to “key out”\, a step by step process used to identify unknown plant species. \nSun 27 Sep: Trees\nDiscover the stories of Britain’s ancient and veteran trees\, and learn how to identify and photograph them in their late-summer form. \nSun 25 Oct: Harvest Mice and Native Fungi:\nHelp us ascertain whether harvest mice are present on the land at 42\, we’ll search together for their tiny nests. SUMMARY:Hope In Action: The State of Nature at Heal Somerset
DESCRIPTION:Join Heal’s co-founder and CEO\, Jan Stannard\, for a presentation and walk which brings to life the findings from the Heal Somerset State of Nature Report 2026. \nThis is the first ever State of Nature report which focuses solely on rewilding and its aim is to produce tangible evidence that rewilding can drive rapid and meaningful ecological recovery and contribute our results to a national dataset for rewilding. \nThe land at Heal Somerset is recovering using nature-led approaches\, with our role being to help restore natural processes through interventions. These interventions include the introduction of animals acting as ecosystem engineers (pigs and\, in future\, cattle and ponies)\, the renaturalisation of water flows\, and natural and assisted regeneration of trees and scrub (such as blackthorn\, hawthorn\, bramble and wild rose). \nDuring the session\, Jan will share the thinking behind Heal’s approach\, talk about the interventions taking place across the site and discuss the first suite of species and habitat surveys that form the foundation of the report. \nFollowing the presentation\, you’ll join Jan on a guided walk through Heal Somerset to see these nature-led approaches in action and discover how rewilding can help tackle the UK’s biodiversity crisis\, strengthen climate resilience and create healthier\, more resilient ecosystems.

SUMMARY:Wild Guardians at 42 Acres
DESCRIPTION:A relaxed\, monthly volunteer gathering to support nature restoration. Rooted in a spirit of community and curiosity. Join us to learn new skills\, spend time in nature\, and connect with like-minded folk. \nCome and spend a few hours in nature doing something that matters. No experience is necessary\, just a willingness to get stuck in and try something new. \n42 Acres has been a rewilding nature reserve for over a decade and is species-rich. Join us to connect with the natural world through hands-on activities from wildlife surveying\, to tending habitats\, and slowing down with nature photography. \nSessions run on the last Sunday of the month 10am-2pm (except in May when we are meeting at 8pm for bats and beavers!). There will be time to connect\, wander\, and simply be outside. If you’re up for it\, you’re welcome to join in for a wild swim too. At 1pm we’ll stop and share a simple lunch together\, provided by 42 Acres. \n____ \nSun 31 May: Bats and Beavers: \nPart of the Great Somerset Wildlife Count\, with guest expert Keith Ball (Somerset Bat Group). Please note: this is an evening session\, running 8–10pm\, as we head out for some gentle nocturnal exploration. \nSun 28 June: Hazel Dormice & Reading Nature: \nJoin us to create footprint tunnels for hazel dormice to discover whether this protected species (that have been spotted on neighbouring land!) exist at 42. We’ll also take a relaxed walk around the 11-acre lake\, recording observations and contributing to global biodiversity databases. We’ll look for signs of beaver activity\, tracks\, and birdlife\, and finish at the white stork enclosure\, part of our species reintroduction work. Guided by Lynne Sewell (Sustainable Witham)\, Robyn Caple (@nestandnettleecology)\, and Lisa Hawes (42 Acres). \nSun 26 July: Butterflies\, Dragonflies + Pond Dipping: \nPart of the UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme\, one of the longest-running insect surveys in the world. With guest expert Fred Giles\, we’ll explore the world of butterflies\, dragonflies\, and other insects\, with a chance to get closer through pond dipping and observation. \nSun 30 Aug: Reptiles and Botanics: \nJoin us to check reptile refuges across the site\, helping us understand which species are present (and which are likely absent). Or take a creative route\, help us start making a handmade herbarium for the site while learning how to “key out”\, a step by step process used to identify unknown plant species. \nSun 27 Sep: Trees\nDiscover the stories of Britain’s ancient and veteran trees\, and learn how to identify and photograph them in their late-summer form. \nSun 25 Oct: Harvest Mice and Native Fungi:\nHelp us ascertain whether harvest mice are present on the land at 42\, we’ll search together for their tiny nests. We’ll also explore the world of fungi\, discovering what’s emerging across the site at this time of year. \nPlease Note: \n– Gloves and wellies/boots are necessary.\n– If you have issues with mobility please let us know before signing up\, we will do our best to accommodate.\n– Please book only if you’re committed to attending and staying for the entire session.\n– If you become unable to attend\, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer your space to someone else.\n– If rain stops play\, we have a Plan B and will aim to move inside to create bee bricks and/or a herbarium together.\n– Please speak with your licensed medical health professional if you have any health conditions or are pregnant.\n– As much as we love our four-legged friends\, we can not allow dogs on this experience. \nLocation & Arrival: \nPlease arrive 10 minutes before we begin. DESCRIPTION:Join professional photographer Celie Nigoumi for a gentle Photowalk around Heal Somerset\, combining creativity\, nature and the simple pleasure of slowing down. \nThrough a short grounding exercise\, you’ll be guided into a more relaxed and attentive headspace before setting off to explore the landscape with your camera. Along the way\, Celie will share practical photography and storytelling techniques to help you notice more\, see differently and give you confidence to take better photos. \nThis walk is not about about making perfect photos but more about the joy of looking\, practising observation while being present in nature and giving yourself space to switch off from the everyday. \nWhether you’re an experienced photographer or simply enjoy taking photos on your phone\, come and fill your creative cup\, connect with nature and meet others seeking a slower pace of life. \nWhat to expect: \nMeet at the visitor car park at Heal Somerset where you will be directed to our community nature barn for a welcome and introduction with Celie\nGet into a relaxed and inspired headspace through a short grounding exercise\nBe guided through techniques to observe your surroundings with more intention\nLearn what to pay special attention to when taking photos\, with insight into storytelling and technical processes\nYou’ll have the opportunity to ask Celie any questions as you go and she will offer 1:1 photography support\nThe group will finish by chatting about our experience and learnings over a cup of tea\, and share the images we made (if we’d like to!) \nAbout your guide\, Celie Nigoumi \nCelie is an artist and facilitator who finds peace and inspiration when taking her camera on gentle walks in nature.
