Even bramble leaves and the humble nettle offer incredible health benefits\, while haws can support the heart and joints and rosehips contain around 40 times more vitamin C than oranges. \nThroughout the session\, Elena will share her ecological and herbal knowledge as you explore a different way of connecting with nature. Together\, you will walk the land\, identifying medicinal plants\, discussing their uses and learning how to forage for them respectfully. DESCRIPTION:A relaxed\, monthly volunteer gathering to support nature restoration. Rooted in a spirit of community and curiosity. Join us to learn new skills\, spend time in nature\, and connect with like-minded folk. \nCome and spend a few hours in nature doing something that matters. No experience is necessary\, just a willingness to get stuck in and try something new. \n42 Acres has been a rewilding nature reserve for over a decade and is species-rich. Join us to connect with the natural world through hands-on activities from wildlife surveying\, to tending habitats\, and slowing down with nature photography. \nSessions run on the last Sunday of the month 10am-2pm (except in May when we are meeting at 8pm for bats and beavers!). There will be time to connect\, wander\, and simply be outside. If you’re up for it\, you’re welcome to join in for a wild swim too. At 1pm we’ll stop and share a simple lunch together\, provided by 42 Acres. \n____ \nSun 31 May: Bats and Beavers: \nPart of the Great Somerset Wildlife Count\, with guest expert Keith Ball (Somerset Bat Group). Please note: this is an evening session\, running 8–10pm\, as we head out for some gentle nocturnal exploration. \nSun 28 June: Hazel Dormice & Reading Nature: \nJoin us to create footprint tunnels for hazel dormice to discover whether this protected species (that have been spotted on neighbouring land!) exist at 42. We’ll also take a relaxed walk around the 11-acre lake\, recording observations and contributing to global biodiversity databases. We’ll look for signs of beaver activity\, tracks\, and birdlife\, and finish at the white stork enclosure\, part of our species reintroduction work. Guided by Lynne Sewell (Sustainable Witham)\, Robyn Caple (@nestandnettleecology)\, and Lisa Hawes (42 Acres). \nSun 26 July: Butterflies\, Dragonflies + Pond Dipping: \nPart of the UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme\, one of the longest-running insect surveys in the world. With guest expert Fred Giles\, we’ll explore the world of butterflies\, dragonflies\, and other insects\, with a chance to get closer through pond dipping and observation. \nSun 30 Aug: Reptiles and Botanics: \nJoin us to check reptile refuges across the site\, helping us understand which species are present (and which are likely absent). Or take a creative route\, help us start making a handmade herbarium for the site while learning how to “key out”\, a step by step process used to identify unknown plant species. \nSun 27 Sep: Trees\nDiscover the stories of Britain’s ancient and veteran trees\, and learn how to identify and photograph them in their late-summer form. \nSun 25 Oct: Harvest Mice and Native Fungi:\nHelp us ascertain whether harvest mice are present on the land at 42\, we’ll search together for their tiny nests. Rather than celebrating abundance\, it celebrates noticing\, seed heads instead of flowers\, texture instead of colour\, habitats instead of displays. \nTo celebrate this Autumn Equinox we invite you to join Amanda Randell Cox\, a local artist specialising in landscape-led botanical design\, at Heal Somerset for a morning of exploration\, creation and delicious food. We will start the day with tea\, coffee\, fruit and pastries followed by a guided walk around our beautiful rewilding site.  We will then return to the community nature cabin for a creative botanical session inspired by everything we’ve just seen together during the morning walk. \nCreate your own beautiful autumn meadow using seasonal grasses and seed heads\, before making a delicate wire insect to nestle within it. DESCRIPTION:Emerging Earth is a four day intentional gathering held by Land\, Food and Medicine in partnership with 42 Acres\, Sense Ability and Listening to the Land. Here is an invitation to gather in a held container of sacred space and become part of a living community of spiritual practice and inquiry. Together we will explore the inter-relational aspects of being human on this earth at this time\, and cultivate our capacities to bring healing to ourselves\, one another and this world. \nThe first full day of Emerging Earth is an invitation to deepen our connection with the earth element through the wisdom of the body\, the land\, and the natural world. The day weaves together embodiment\, meditation\, creativity\, and practices that reconnect us with the rhythms of nature. \nThe morning begins with Meditation and Movement with Brij\, followed by breakfast and our Whole Group Circle\, a space to gather\, connect\, and arrive together as a community.\nThe first session of the day offers to choose between Somatic Grounding and Centring with Rui Rodrigues\, Revival of Land-Based Spirituality with Rachel Knight\, and Cyclical Nature: A Playful\, Embodied\, Exploration of Our Cyclicity\, Connection and Remembering as Ourselves as Nature with Support from the Plants with Emma Sampson. \nThe first session is followed by communal lunch and after\, we enter a spacious period of collective rest\, exhale\, integration and being with the land. Another option during this time\, would be joining Rewilding Walk led by the 42 Acres team. \nThe afternoon continues with a choice of immersive experiences\, including Brij McCracken’s Environmental Cultivation: Ways of Discovering Open Presence of Awareness Through Relational Inhabitation and Meditation (Meditation Exploration Space)\, Plant Meditation with Jennifer Gwairocha. A second afternoon session offers a Panel Discussion on Neurodiversity held by Listening to the Land and Vaughan’s Breathwork Session. \nThe day closes with an evening storytelling session led by Michelle Hawkins and A Space for Healing\, Expression and Restoration Through Sound and Vibration with Rebecca Campbell and Nicolette Corcoran. \nThroughout the day\, you’ll have the opportunity to book one-on-one sessions\, including traditional Lithuanian pirtis (sauna) rituals\, hypnotherapy\, somatic bodywork\, massage\, and more.

DESCRIPTION:Come along and learn more about nature-led recovery at Heal’s first rewilding site\, Heal Somerset. \nHeal Somerset began its recovery from its ecologically depleted state at the beginning of 2023 and nature here is already beginning to bounce back. This tour is a unique opportunity to spend time with Heal’s co-founder and acting CEO\, Jan Stannard\, who will take you around part of our beautiful site on mown paths. \nYou will learn more around the wider context of rewilding\, including the reasons we need it and the benefits it brings to nature\, the climate and to our own wellbeing. Jan will talk about the rewilding principles that Heal follows and give you an insight into some of our plans for the land\, particularly the interventions we’re considering and our plans for future livestock introductions. There will be time to connect\, wander\, and simply be outside. If you’re up for it\, you’re welcome to join in for a wild swim too. At 1pm we’ll stop and share a simple lunch together\, provided by 42 Acres. \n____ \nSun 31 May: Bats and Beavers: \nPart of the Great Somerset Wildlife Count\, with guest expert Keith Ball (Somerset Bat Group). Please note: this is an evening session\, running 8–10pm\, as we head out for some gentle nocturnal exploration. \nSun 28 June: Hazel Dormice & Reading Nature: \nJoin us to create footprint tunnels for hazel dormice to discover whether this protected species (that have been spotted on neighbouring land!) exist at 42. We’ll also take a relaxed walk around the 11-acre lake\, recording observations and contributing to global biodiversity databases. We’ll look for signs of beaver activity\, tracks\, and birdlife\, and finish at the white stork enclosure\, part of our species reintroduction work. Guided by Lynne Sewell (Sustainable Witham)\, Robyn Caple (@nestandnettleecology)\, and Lisa Hawes (42 Acres). \nSun 26 July: Butterflies\, Dragonflies + Pond Dipping: \nPart of the UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme\, one of the longest-running insect surveys in the world. With guest expert Fred Giles\, we’ll explore the world of butterflies\, dragonflies\, and other insects\, with a chance to get closer through pond dipping and observation. \nSun 30 Aug: Reptiles and Botanics: \nJoin us to check reptile refuges across the site\, helping us understand which species are present (and which are likely absent). Or take a creative route\, help us start making a handmade herbarium for the site while learning how to “key out”\, a step by step process used to identify unknown plant species. \nSun 27 Sep: Trees\nDiscover the stories of Britain’s ancient and veteran trees\, and learn how to identify and photograph them in their late-summer form. \nSun 25 Oct: Harvest Mice and Native Fungi:\nHelp us ascertain whether harvest mice are present on the land at 42\, we’ll search together for their tiny nests. Join our brilliant volunteer reptile surveyor\, Lynne Sewell\, for a small-group Family Reptile Adventure\, where you’ll explore the fascinating world of Britain’s native reptiles. \nLynne knows all the best places to look and will lead a gentle walk around Heal Somerset\, sharing her knowledge of the reptiles that call the site home. Along the way\, you’ll learn how to spot and identify different species\, discover the habitats they depend on and keep an eye out for plenty of other summer wildlife too. \nThe walk also takes in our thriving wetlands\, where you’ll be able to see the remarkable changes our resident beavers have been making to the landscape and you may even meet our friendly\, wild-living tamworth pigs\, Ticket and Tailor. \nLizards and other species you might see: At Heal\, we have recorded common lizard\, slow worm\, grass snake\, common toad and all three native newt species: smooth newt\, palmate newt and great crested newt. You can also expect to see dragonflies\, butterflies\, birds and a host of other summer wildlife. \nAbout your guide\, Lynne \nLynne has been interested in reptiles and amphibians for as long as she can remember. As a child\, she would lift rocks or discarded sheets of corrugated iron in the hope of finding reptiles sheltering beneath them. Lynne says “on one memorable occasion\, I even jumped into a lake to catch a grass snake which I then took home to my long-suffering parents! That fascination has stayed with me throughout my life\, and I still feel a thrill whenever I lift something that might be hiding a reptile or amphibian underneath. I feel lucky to be able to regularly survey for reptiles at Heal”.

This tour is a unique opportunity to spend time with Heal’s co-founder and acting CEO\, Jan Stannard\, who will take you around part of our beautiful site on mown paths. \nYou will learn more around the wider context of rewilding\, including the reasons we need it and the benefits it brings to nature\, the climate and to our own wellbeing. Jan will talk about the rewilding principles that Heal follows and give you an insight into some of our plans for the land\, particularly the interventions we’re considering and our plans for future livestock introductions.
