SUMMARY:Joseph Jebelli talks to Anita Roy | The Brain at Rest
DESCRIPTION:We’re constantly badgered to do more\, to aim higher\, to make the most of our time. Our phones and social media\, which pose as a break from work\, only keep our minds over-stimulated and anxious. \nIn The Brain at Rest\, Joseph Jebelli explains why stress is so damaging and introduces us to the brain’s ‘default network’ – the circuitry that helps us daydream\, reflect and imagine. He shares tips on reorganising your life to prioritise sleep\, finding silence\, walking and spending time in nature. Rest is not a lazy alternative to work\, but an essential part of it. \n“Activating the default network can enhance your intelligence\, creativity\, social empathy and long-term productivity. It can improve your health and help stave off neurological disease.” Joseph Jebelli \nJoseph will be in conversation with Anita Roy – a writer\, editor\, environmentalist and regular contributor to The Guardian Country Diary. \nThe event takes place in our venue for the weekend\, RISE. So come along early for an afternoon coffee and cake onsite at the wonderful Rye Bakery and enjoy the last few events of our fabulous festival. \nThis event is part of the Consider the Wondrous | nature\, wonder\, books & us festival.

SUMMARY:Harriet Rix talks to Julian Hight | The Genius of Trees
DESCRIPTION:Our hope is that Consider the Wondrous can help us to rethink our place on the planet\, as one remarkable species among so many others. So\, it’s fitting that our final event this year should show something as commonplace as trees in a radically different light. \nIt’s easy to think of trees as noble\, beautiful but ultimately passive presences in the landscape. Harriet Rix’s extraordinary book The Genius of Trees tells a different story. Trees have agency\, modifying and working with the animals\, plants and fungi around them: they manipulate the clouds to produce the climate they like\, they shiver rock into fertile soil\, they change the very atmosphere. \nHarriet Rix has led an extraordinary life – with an education spanning a Biochemistry degree earned at Oxford\, to an MPhil in the History and Philosophy of Science\, specialising in Ottoman Science\, from Cambridge. Her studies led to travel\, and work in IED and landmine clearance in the Middle East. The terrible effects of environmental degradation that she witnessed in Iraq prompted her to join the tree sector\, and in 2018 she returned to the UK to try to learn about the world of trees in this context. \n“This is a story of how tree-ish trees are\, and how… they have woven the world into a place of great beauty and extraordinary variety” Harriet Rix \nJulian Hight is a tree-obsessive\, punk rocker and graphic designer. His new book The Ancient Tree Explorer is a fascinating and sumptuous guide to the most magnificent trees in Britain. On Saturday 19 September at 10am\, you can join Julian as he leads us on a tree adventure around Frome. \nThis event takes place in our venue for the weekend\, RISE. So come along early for a late afternoon coffee and cake at the wonderful onsite Rye Bakery and enjoy this final event of our fabulous festival. \nThis event is part of the Consider the Wondrous | nature\, wonder\, books & us festival.

SUMMARY:David Thomas Broughton – Live at the Tree House
DESCRIPTION:Night River Presents: David Thomas Broughton + Sylvie Grey \nDavid Thomas Broughton returns with a rare trio performance. \nOne of the most distinctive and unpredictable figures in British folk and experimental music\, Broughton’s songs move between intimacy\, humour\, improvisation and abstraction. No two performances are quite the same. \nFresh from an appearance at End of the Road Festival\, Broughton continues to build his cult reputation through performances that blur the boundaries between song\, spontaneity and performance art. \nOpening the evening is Sylvie Grey\, a songwriter with a gift for stopping a room in its tracks. \nPlease note this is an 18+ all standing event\, and the venue is accessed by stairs with no lift. If you have any enquiries please email thetreehouse@cheeseandgrain.com

SUMMARY:NT Live: the Misanthrope
DESCRIPTION:*Screened Performance* \nAward-winner Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) plays the title role in this razor-sharp reimagining of Molière’s classic dark comedy. \nTelling the truth isn’t always that simple. SUMMARY:Award Winning Films from the 2026 Frome International Climate Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:THE FILM ROOM – COMMUNITY CINEMA\, supporting new and current filmmakers locally and from around the world\, because everyone should have a voice. Non mainstream cinema which matters. \n23rd September Films\nFILM 1 – OBRONI WAWU – DEAD MAN’S CLOTHES: Obroni Wawu\, meaning “dead white man’s clothes”\, follows Ghanaian creatives and traders as they confront the environmental and social toll of second hand clothing dumped from the Global North.\nFILM 2 – SAURY SEAWEED: The Korean Peninsula is a land where the Cold War never died. As oceans warm\, the southern survival limit of a mythic marine plant is relentlessly retreating north. The species is vanishing from the South. \n21st October Films\nFILM 1 – A FOOD STORY: There is a place in Tenerife where humans and animals sustain themselves with a simple yet extraordinary resource: food waste. They collect\, segregate\, cook\, store\, and create compost from it\, by sustaining up to 40 people and 400 animals each day using just the waste from a single supermarket\nFILM 2 – INTO THE WILD: INTO THE WILD explores the American West and its unique ecosystems\, where iconic species such as mustangs and coyotes are under threat. Alongside zoologist Yvan Kereun\, the film blends science\, Indigenous knowledge\, and conservation practices \n18th November Films\nFILM 1 – WHEN SOLAR LIGHTS UPON THE COMMUNITY: In a timeworn community in Shanghai\, a group of Green Housewives has turned the neighbourhood into a stage for renewable energy. When solar lights upon the community\, the players step forward: a mother of three who studied renewable power in Scandinavia; an artist who creates gallery-worthy sculptures with the community from recyclables; China’s first household-solar pioneer; a high-schooler who runs the community garden’s irrigation on renewable energy.\nFILM 2 – WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBOURHOOD WILDLIFE IN THE CITY: The city is like a living organism. Healthy and in perfect balance\, it can make its inhabitants happy\, people as well as animals and plants. If it gets out of balance\, it becomes ill and with it all the creatures that live in it. It is a valuable habitat for animals such as hedgehogs\, rhinoceros beetles and swallowtails. But cities are under pressure. \n16th December Films\nFILM 1 – ROOTED IN RESILIENCE: In an economy often built on extraction\, the women in Rooted in Resilience offer a powerful alternative built on reciprocity. This documentary captures the journey of Indigenous entrepreneurs who treat the land as a relative rather than a resource.\nFILM 2 – WASTED 2025: Wasted prompts us to re-examine who we are and our values — to re-think our relationship with the world around us. We cannot continue to extract and exploit our ecosystems at unprecedented rates and continue down the path of wasting our precious natural resources. SUMMARY:Village Boys: A Long-Term Mentoring Group
DESCRIPTION:Village Boys is a new weekly mentoring group at The Village Frome for boys aged 8–12. \nLed by Luke and Rob\, the group offers boys the chance to spend regular time with trusted male mentors\, build strong relationships and become part of a community where they are known\, needed and trusted. \nDays are rooted in the land and shaped around practical skills\, real responsibility\, adventure and contribution. The boys will build and make\, use tools\, cook over fire\, grow food\, explore the woods\, care for the land and take on real jobs that matter. \nAs the group develops there will also be adventures\, expeditions and rites of passage\, with the intention that this becomes something the boys grow with over time rather than simply another weekly activity. \nAt the heart of Village Boys is the opportunity for boys to experience healthy masculinity through relationship: spending time alongside good men and seeing how they work\, listen\, lead\, care and contribute. \nThursdays\, 10am–3pm\, term time \nAges 8–12\n£40 per session \nStarting September at The Village\, Frome. \nTo register your interest\, email villagefrome@gmail.com or visit thevillagefrome.co.uk.

SUMMARY:True Foxes – Live at the Tree House
DESCRIPTION:Having performed over 800 shows since forming in 2019\, True Foxes are an acclaimed alt-country/Americana cousin duo from Cornwall\, rapidly gaining recognition across the UK and internationally. \nLed by Amie’s powerful vocals and soulful songwriting\, often compared to Laura Marling and Brandi Carlile\, the duo blend acoustic guitar with Chloe’s ethereal harmonies and melodic bass lines. Their honest storytelling\, natural chemistry\, and warm sisterly banter take audiences on an emotional journey. \nTheir debut album\, Howl (2024)\, received widespread acclaim and extensive radio support\, being named Americana Album of the Month by The Country Mile Radio and UK Country Radio\, alongside significant airplay across the UK and internationally. The album earned glowing reviews from AmericanaUK\, Rocking Magpie\, and Fatea Magazine\, and saw the duo recognised as BBC Artist of the Week across eight territories. \nTrue Foxes entered 2025 with a sold-out headline tour\, followed by a summer of main-stage festival performances including Between the Trees\, Paradhis\, Tunes in the Park\, OceanFest\, and Sidmouth Folk Festival. In the autumn\, they collaborated with folk legend Steve Knightley\, recording vocals for the Winter Yards album and performing live with the Winter Yards Band across 24 cities. \nReturning to their roots in early 2026\, the duo will be performing across 21 Cornish venues\, including a church tour alongside singer Will Keating\, performing songs such as Cornwall my Home\, as showcased on BBC Spotlight (2025). They will then be hitting the road again in April for their album launch tour following the release of their highly anticipated second album\, Just a Woman\, coming out in March 2026. \nUpcoming festival performances include Ely Folk Festival\, Fisherman’s Friends Festival\, Beardy Folk\, The Magpies Festival\, and The Brasenose Fringe\, with many more dates to be announced. \nPlease note this is an 18+ all standing event\, and the venue is accessed by stairs with no lift. SUMMARY:Twilight Beaver Watch
DESCRIPTION:This is a rare opportunity to join a small group for a twilight beaver watch and experience the magic of seeing these remarkable animals living wild. You’ll enjoy a peaceful and immersive evening watching wildlife emerge as day turns to night. \nOur thriving beaver family has really made themselves at home on site at Heal Somerset\, establishing an impressive lodge and building a network of dams. They have been busy transforming the landscape in extraordinary ways and they are creating thriving wetlands that support a wealth of wildlife\, improve water quality and increase biodiversity. \nFull disclosure: beavers are often seen from the viewing area\, so there’s a good chance that you’ll see at least one\, but we can’t guarantee it. But even if you don’t\, you will learn lots about them as well as witness their hard work whilst spending valuable time in nature. \nEach beaver watch will be carefully led by experienced wildlife guide Nick Patel. His respectful approach will minimise disturbance as the beavers’ wellbeing is always the priority. We ask that all attendees follow this approach. \nAbout your workshop leader\, Nick Patel: \nNick is a tour guide\, conservationist\, naturalist and birder and is passionate about helping to protect\, create and maintain British wildlife. A lifelong Birdwatcher\, and former Nature reserve Warden\, Nick has devoted his life to shouting about how amazing our native biodiversity is and just why we should care for it. \nNick says “Having led tours here at Heal Somerset for two years now\, I’ve witnessed first-hand the speed at which nature has already made a comeback. I’m super passionate about showing everyone who visits the site the wealth of wildlife bouncing back\, including some really beautiful species and fabulous rewilding habitats.”

SUMMARY:The Amazons
DESCRIPTION:The Amazons are one of the UK’s fiercest live bands\, known for their explosive energy\, anthemic choruses\, and raw indie-rock spirit. Hailing from Reading\, the four-piece burst onto the scene with their 2017 self-titled debut\, earning a top 10 UK album and widespread acclaim. \nSince then\, they’ve toured relentlessly\, shared stages with rock heavyweights\, and continued to evolve their sound across four acclaimed albums\, and they have unfinished business with their most recent release “21st Century Fiction”\, so are taking it back out on the road leaving no stone unturned. Expect thunderous riffs\, crowd-surfing moments\, and a band at the top of their game.
