These sessions are subsidised by Somerset Council’s Community Inclusion Action Team. \nForest school is for children of all ages and abilities. It builds on a child’s innate motivation and positive attitude to learning. One of the benefits of forest school is the high adult/pupil ratio\, which encourages an attitude of shared inquiry and enjoyment of the natural world. SUMMARY:Nexus exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Nexus brings three artists together for a diverse exhibition of work\, examining different styles that share commonalities through their collective interpretation of colour\, composition\, and form. \nThis exhibition combines different approaches to contemporary art under one roof. Influenced by our individual experiences and ways of portraying the world\, Mark Elliott Smith\, Bernard Charnley and Kate Cochrane\, collaborate and provoke our perspectives and insights into specific genres. \nMark Elliott Smith’s work brings something new to abstraction. Inspired by dance and costume\, mediaeval art\, and his response to music\, he builds images which are analogues of the process of construction and destruction\, fragmentation and coherence. Painting in layers of flat acrylic colour\, his work animates space while creating the illusion of depth\, imparting an energising\, positive sense of possibility through his playful use of colour and form. \nBernard Charnley combines layered oil paint with oil bars and inserted sections of canvas\, creating work which moves between abstraction and figuration\, examining the relationships between geometry\, surface\, depth\, and illusion as imprints of the human. His interest in philosophy informs his portfolio of work\, which reflects on the nature of social fracture. \nKate Cochrane works in a variety of media\, including oils\, acrylics\, gouache\, and dry pastels. Known for their dual-vocal attack—John Loughlin’s guttural growl alongside Frank Regan’s raw intensity\, the band quickly built a reputation for chaotic\, high-energy live shows. \nAfter the release of their self-titled debut (2000) and We Will Be Dead Tomorrow (2002)\, which saw “The Gush” enter the UK charts\, the band toured relentlessly with acts like Rammstein\, Slipknot\, and Biohazard\, and played major festivals including Ozzfest\, Reading\, and Download. Their third album\, How the Great Have Fallen (2005)\, preceded lineup changes and a fourth release\, Before the Sea Was Built (2007)\, before they disbanded in 2008. \nReforming in 2014\, the band returned with renewed energy\, headlining stages at Sonisphere and Damnation Festival\, and releasing Lost Ritual (2016) and Hard to Kill (2020)\, the latter charting across UK rock and indie rankings.
