SUMMARY:Rewilding in Action: A Tour of Heal Somerset with Heal Co-Founder Jan Stannard
DESCRIPTION:Come along and learn more about nature-led recovery at Heal’s first rewilding site\, Heal Somerset. \nHeal Somerset began its recovery from its ecologically depleted state at the beginning of 2023 and nature here is already beginning to bounce back. This tour is a unique opportunity to spend time with Heal’s co-founder and acting CEO\, Jan Stannard\, who will take you around part of our beautiful site on mown paths. \nYou will learn more around the wider context of rewilding\, including the reasons we need it and the benefits it brings to nature\, the climate and to our own wellbeing. Jan will talk about the rewilding principles that Heal follows and give you an insight into some of our plans for the land\, particularly the interventions we’re considering and our plans for future livestock introductions. The group will also hear about some of the changes we have seen on the site already\, including the very welcome appearance of wild-living beavers. \nYou will also hopefully experience some of the varied wildlife we have on site\, but even if the creatures are elusive on the day\, we know you will still find the site a beautiful\, peaceful and restorative place to be. \nYour tour will finish with refreshments in our 17th century farmhouse where conversations about rewilding and Heal can continue.

SUMMARY:Lucky 7’s Vinyl Day
DESCRIPTION:Lucky 7’s goes on tour! Frome’s community-driven music collective is bringing their good vibes and excellent tunes to the kitchen garden at Vallis Farm. What’s the idea? Bring your favourite 7 x 7” vinyl records\, whatever style that may be – no restrictions\, no limitations\, and book a slot to spin and contribute to the entertainment. There will be plenty of food and drink throughout the day\, including a licensed bar plus the opportunity to use the natural pool and sauna. Vallis Farm has plenty of space to enjoy for the whole family\, so come and spend the day soaking up the atmosphere! \nEntry to the event is free. As we are raising money for charity\, vinyl sessions are charged depending on the time slot you want (get in quick!). *You can book as many sessions as you like\, but please avoid back-to-back blocks. We would advise bringing more than 7 x 7’s just in case. Slots are 20 minutes. \nThe swim and sauna also need to be booked separately. \nThis event is a fundraiser for Vallis Farm Education Centre CIC\, an initiative aimed at improving access to nature and careers in the land based industry for the young people of our beautiful town. Lucky 7’s is a community organisation aimed at bringing people together over a wide variety of music and just having fun on the decks. No egos\, just good times. So come along\, everyone. Bring your friends\, family and favourite records and have a go.

SUMMARY:The Toasters – Live At The Tree House
DESCRIPTION:Formed on the Lower East Side of New York City in 1981\, The Toasters are the longest-running American ska band and one of the most influential forces in the genre’s global history. \nBridging the gap between the UK’s 2-Tone movement and the American ska explosion of the 1990s\, The Toasters helped ignite what became known as the Third Wave of Ska. SUMMARY:Family Reptile Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Calling all children with a sense of adventure and a curiosity about the natural world. \nDo you have a child who loves discovering wildlife? Join our brilliant volunteer reptile surveyor\, Lynne Sewell\, for a small-group Family Reptile Adventure\, where you’ll explore the fascinating world of Britain’s native reptiles. \nLynne knows all the best places to look and will lead a gentle walk around Heal Somerset\, sharing her knowledge of the reptiles that call the site home. Along the way\, you’ll learn how to spot and identify different species\, discover the habitats they depend on and keep an eye out for plenty of other summer wildlife too. \nThe walk also takes in our thriving wetlands\, where you’ll be able to see the remarkable changes our resident beavers have been making to the landscape and you may even meet our friendly\, wild-living tamworth pigs\, Ticket and Tailor. \nLizards and other species you might see: At Heal\, we have recorded common lizard\, slow worm\, grass snake\, common toad and all three native newt species: smooth newt\, palmate newt and great crested newt. You can also expect to see dragonflies\, butterflies\, birds and a host of other summer wildlife. \nAbout your guide\, Lynne \nLynne has been interested in reptiles and amphibians for as long as she can remember. As a child\, she would lift rocks or discarded sheets of corrugated iron in the hope of finding reptiles sheltering beneath them. Lynne says “on one memorable occasion\, I even jumped into a lake to catch a grass snake which I then took home to my long-suffering parents! That fascination has stayed with me throughout my life\, and I still feel a thrill whenever I lift something that might be hiding a reptile or amphibian underneath. I feel lucky to be able to regularly survey for reptiles at Heal”.

SUMMARY:Shared Earth Learning - SEN summer holiday sessions
DESCRIPTION:Shared Earth Learning are running forest school sessions for children with additional needs this summer holiday. These sessions are subsidised by Somerset Council’s Community Inclusion Action Team. \nForest school is for children of all ages and abilities. It builds on a child’s innate motivation and positive attitude to learning. One of the benefits of forest school is the high adult/pupil ratio\, which encourages an attitude of shared inquiry and enjoyment of the natural world. Children are encouraged to explore and appreciate their environment\, enabling them to think creatively and confidently. Forest school is child-led with opportunities to take risks\, make choices and initiate learning for themselves\, providing a chance to discover their abilities without fear of failure or criticism. \nThese sessions are suitable for children aged between 7 and 18 years. \n\n10am – 2:30pm\n£15 per child (a sibling and carer can come for free)\nUp to 7 children per session\n\nTo book\, please email: sharedearthbookings@gmail.com \nShared Earth Learning are also offering non-SEN forest school sessions – you can find out more here.

SUMMARY:Shared Earth Learning - classic summer holiday sessions
DESCRIPTION:Shared Earth Learning are running forest school sessions for children this summer holiday. The classic sessions aren’t for SEN children\, please click here for their SEN sessions. \nThese sessions are suitable for children aged between 5 and 14 years. \n\n10am – 3:30pm\n£45 per child (concessionary rates and discounts for siblings available – please ask when you book)\nUp to 12 children per session\n\nTo book\, please email: sharedearthbookings@gmail.com
