DESCRIPTION:Ben Ottewell is a British musician best known as the gravelly-voiced frontman of the indie rock band Gomez. Born on June 23\, 1976\, in Chesterfield\, England\, Ottewell began his musical journey at a young age\, inspired by his father’s eclectic record collection. In 1996\, he co-founded Gomez with Ian Ball\, Tom Gray\, Paul Blackburn\, and Olly Peacock while studying at university in Sheffield. \nGomez quickly gained attention with their debut album\, “Bring It On\,” released in 1998\,which won the Mercury Music Prize. Ottewell’s distinctive vocals and songwriting contributed to the band’s unique sound\, characterized by a blend of blues\, folk\, and rock elements. The band went on to release several critically acclaimed albums\, including”Liquid Skin” (1999) and “In Our Gun” (2002) . Throughout Gomez’s career\, Ottewell’s soulful voice and introspective lyrics resonated with fans\, earning him a dedicated following. \nHis solo career saw him exploring a more stripped-down acoustic sound\, showcasing his raw talent and emotive storytelling. In 2011\, Ottewell released his debut solo album\, “Shapes & Shadows\,” followed by”Rattlebag” in 2014 and ‘A Man Apart’ in 2017. Nevertheless\, their music has persisted\, embraced by the very culture that birthed it. “Bodies” remains an enduring anthem\, not just for Drowning Pool but for metal culture as a whole. Its legacy lives on\, inspiring new generations of fans. Guitarist C.J. Pierce captures the essence of their dedication: “I’d play ‘Bodies’ five times a night if people really wanted it that bad!” The song’s timeless appeal transcends generations\, resonating with both the seasoned and the fresh-faced. \nDrowning Pool’s return is a testament to the enduring power of their music\, a reminder that their unapologetic spirit continues to strike chords with audiences worldwide. The band experienced a triumphant resurgence in 2023 and with new music on the horizon\, a 2024/25 calendar proving that the demand for the band isn’t about to slow down..\, Drowning Pool has a white knuckle grip on their present and future with no plans to slow down. \nSNOT \nSNOT is an American punk band from Santa Barbara\, California\, originally formed in 1995. Known for blending punk rock\, hardcore\, and funk influences\, featured Lynn Strait as the charismatic lead vocalist\, along with the lead guitarist Mikey Doling\, bassist John Fahnestock\, drummer Jamie Miller\, and later\, Sonny Mayo on guitar. SNOT brought an edgy\, high-energy sound to the late ’90s music scene. The first full-length album\, Get Some\, released in 1997\, became iconic for its aggressive sound and Strait’s raw\, confrontational lyrics. The album received praise for its energy and distinctive fusion of punk and metal elements\, positioning SNOT as part of the emerging nu-metal scene\, alongside bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit\, with whom they often shared the stage. Unfortunately\, the band’s career was cut short in 1998 when Lynn Strait tragically died in a car accident\, along with his dog\, Dobbs\, who was featured on the cover of Get Some. \nFollowing Strait’s death\, the band dissolved\, but SNOT’s impact continued\, and SNOT developed a devoted cult following. In 2000\, Mikey Doling produced Strait Up\, a tribute album that featured guest vocalists from various bands performing unreleased SNOT tracks as a tribute to Strait’s memory. Over the years\, SNOT’s music has maintained its influence within the punk and metal communities as the legendary punk band. In 2025\, SNOT decided to return to the scene with the new singer. Nick will highlight some of the incredible flora and fauna that can be found along the river. We’ll discover just how rich the habitats are along the river\, throughout the town\, and how they’re improving due to the conservation work currently going on from human and beaver help. \nThis event is for all those interested in learning more about our town’s amazing wealth of wildlife and for all ages and levels of experience. To make your walk as pleasant as possible\, wear sturdy boots and comfortable clothes. Bring a water bottle\, a snack and a pair of binoculars\, if you have one.
