SUMMARY:FLOC community group: Support for parents and carers of children with SEND
DESCRIPTION:FLOC is a peer‑led community group\, facilitated by parents and carers of children with SEND who are further down the path\, and who understand what it’s like to feel lost amongst the chaos. Whether you’re feeling lonely\, overwhelmed\, or just want to see what’s out there\, we’re here for everyone raising a child with any additional need\, disability or sensitivity\, at any age or stage\, with or without diagnosis. \nThis meet-up aims to build a growing community through shared experiences where positive wellbeing\, connection\, shared understanding and finding moments of joy come first. Join us to learn new skills\, spend time in nature\, and connect with like-minded folk. \nCome and spend a few hours in nature doing something that matters. There will be time to connect\, wander\, and simply be outside. If you’re up for it\, you’re welcome to join in for a wild swim too. At 1pm we’ll stop and share a simple lunch together\, provided by 42 Acres. \n____ \nSun 31 May: Bats and Beavers: \nPart of the Great Somerset Wildlife Count\, with guest expert Keith Ball (Somerset Bat Group). Or take a creative route\, help us start making a handmade herbarium for the site while learning how to “key out”\, a step by step process used to identify unknown plant species. \nSun 27 Sep: Trees\nDiscover the stories of Britain’s ancient and veteran trees\, and learn how to identify and photograph them in their late-summer form. \nSun 25 Oct: Harvest Mice and Native Fungi:\nHelp us ascertain whether harvest mice are present on the land at 42\, we’ll search together for their tiny nests. It’s a really well-thought-out setup. Simple\, but intentional. The team were welcoming\, knowledgeable (beavers\, storks\, permaculture\, mushroom farms\, soil-to-gut) and clearly passionate about what they’re building. This was their first Slow Sunday- here’s to many more!’\nLynda\, Slow Sunday Guest\, June 2025. \n‘A group of 6 of us attended 42Acres Slow Sunday and we all throughly enjoyed ourselves. The land is beautiful\, with lots of lovely quiet trails to walk and soak it all up. We even spotted storks\, buzzards and believe we may have accidentally bumped into a wild boar too. The setting for lunch is fabulous. Really cosy atmosphere and delicious food. Some of us even jumped in the lake for a quick swim which was really refreshing.’\nLucy\, Slow Sunday Guest\, August 2025 \n‘Beautiful experience of reconnection to people\, place and soul.’\nSara\, Slow Sunday Guest\, August 2025. \nPlease Note:\n– Must be booked in advance. SUMMARY:Let's Talk about Alice exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Alice Seeley\, adopted daughter of Frome\, helped bring down a King – with a camera. \nIn 1898\, twenty-seven-year-old Alice Seeley Harris sailed for King Leopold II’s Congo Free State. Over the next seven years\, her photographs of forced rubber labour\, mutilated workers\, and a father named Nsala mourning his murdered daughter on the veranda of her mission station\, shocked the world. They became the visual evidence behind what historians now recognise as the first photographic human-rights campaign – predating the better-known American documentary work of Lewis Hine by several years. \nHer images\, projected in lantern-slide lectures across Britain and the United States\, helped force Leopold to cede the Congo in 1908. Then\, Alice was largely written out of her own story. Even Mark Twain\, who shared her most famous photograph in his 1905 satirical pamphlet King Leopold’s Soliloquy\, did not write her name. \nThis summer\, Photo|Frome and Frome Museum bring Alice’s work home. We follow Alice’s journey from Merchants Barton to the Maringa River and back. We explore the role of missionaries\, humanitarian photography and the recognition of women – and we ask what her photographs still demand of us in 2026. The exhibition is built with care for visitors of all ages: an outer ring of display panels tells Alice’s story\, while an inner ring displays Alice’s photographic evidence of human rights abuse\, for those who choose to see it. \nOpening hours\nThe Exhibition runs from 30 June to 22 August at Frome Museum. Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday\, 11am to 3pm\, plus Independent Market Sundays. \nEntry is free. \nSome of the photographs in the exhibition’s inner ring may be distressing.

SUMMARY:Wild Circle
DESCRIPTION:Wild Circle is a women’s group in nature -women sharing honest conversation around a fire\, in a beautiful garden setting.\nNo pressure or expectation\, just a warm welcome and a gentle invitation to take a pause from everyday life and create a little breathing space. \n“Tara made me feel very welcome and relaxed\, I felt completely at ease. I would highly recommend.” -Jo- \n“It was just what I wanted\, a real ‘firebreak’ in a busy life. Thank you for allowing us to develop what we did in our own way\, whilst gently guiding and holding the session. I think the choice to stay in the ’embrace’ of the wooden structure worked well\, and I found the time by the fire warming in body and spirit. And great cake too.” -Beverly- \nFridays 10am – 11:30am\, monthly at Vallis Farm

Jan will talk about the rewilding principles that Heal follows and give you an insight into some of our plans for the land\, particularly the interventions we’re considering and our plans for future livestock introductions. The group will also hear about some of the changes we have seen on the site already\, including the very welcome appearance of wild-living beavers. \nYou will also hopefully experience some of the varied wildlife we have on site\, but even if the creatures are elusive on the day\, we know you will still find the site a beautiful\, peaceful and restorative place to be. \nYour tour will finish with refreshments in our 17th century farmhouse where conversations about rewilding and Heal can continue.

SUMMARY:Nexus exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Nexus brings three artists together for a diverse exhibition of work\, examining different styles that share commonalities through their collective interpretation of colour\, composition\, and form. \nThis exhibition combines different approaches to contemporary art under one roof. Influenced by our individual experiences and ways of portraying the world\, Mark Elliott Smith\, Bernard Charnley and Kate Cochrane\, collaborate and provoke our perspectives and insights into specific genres. \nMark Elliott Smith’s work brings something new to abstraction. Inspired by dance and costume\, mediaeval art\, and his response to music\, he builds images which are analogues of the process of construction and destruction\, fragmentation and coherence. Painting in layers of flat acrylic colour\, his work animates space while creating the illusion of depth\, imparting an energising\, positive sense of possibility through his playful use of colour and form. \nBernard Charnley combines layered oil paint with oil bars and inserted sections of canvas\, creating work which moves between abstraction and figuration\, examining the relationships between geometry\, surface\, depth\, and illusion as imprints of the human. His interest in philosophy informs his portfolio of work\, which reflects on the nature of social fracture. \nKate Cochrane works in a variety of media\, including oils\, acrylics\, gouache\, and dry pastels. Taking inspiration from landscape\, trees\, rocks\, castle ruins and reflections in water\, her process of creating paintings\, along with wanting to express how she feels\, results in a rich tapestry of colour and texture. \n3 Aug – 13 Sept \nOpen: Sun – Tue / 9 – 5pm\nOpen: Wed – Sat / 9 – 9pm
