SUMMARY:Slow Sunday at 42 Acres
DESCRIPTION:Spend a slow Sunday afternoon at 42 Acres and reconnect with nature\, with each other\, and with the elements.\nCome as you are and spend a relaxed Sunday of outdoor vibes. Gather in our forest glade for our signature vegetarian wild dining experience. Your meal will be cooked over an open fire with nourishing ingredients organically-grown and wild-foraged on this land.\nGo for a wild swim in the beaver-filled lake\, and relax in the wood-fired sauna. Or simply take time and space to rest and restore on land that has been allowed to do the same. \nYou’re welcome to do as much or as little as you like:\n– Roam the 173 acres of our land – home to millions of lives.\n– Wild swim in our 7-acre lake or take out our rowboat\, SUP board\, or canoe. (Please note these activities are at your own risk – there is no lifeguard).\n– Look out for beaver\, otter\, wild boar\, hare\, deer and a multitude of birds.\n– Explore our rewilded spaces; woodland mushroom farm; permaculture garden; edible ornamental walled garden; species re-introduction projects; and secret treehouse. Or just chill and chat.\n– Add on a holistic treatment (advance bookings only) \nSlow Sundays run from 11am-4pm on the following dates:\n– Sun 5 Apr 2026 (Easter Sunday)\n– Sun 3 May\n– Sun 28 Jun\n– Sun 19 Jul\n– Sun 30 Aug (Bank holiday weekend)\n– Sun 20 Sep \nFeedback from Past Slow Sundays:\n‘I took some proper time out today. Slow Sundays at 42 Acres Retreat are all about connection – with yourself\, with others\, and with nature.\nWild swimming\, a wood-fired sauna\, woodland walks\, and incredible food grown on the land itself – all shared around a long table in the woods\, with birdsong overhead and an eclectic mix of people from all walks of life. It’s a really well-thought-out setup. Simple\, but intentional. The team were welcoming\, knowledgeable (beavers\, storks\, permaculture\, mushroom farms\, soil-to-gut) and clearly passionate about what they’re building. This was their first Slow Sunday- here’s to many more!’\nLynda\, Slow Sunday Guest\, June 2025. \n‘A group of 6 of us attended 42Acres Slow Sunday and we all throughly enjoyed ourselves. The land is beautiful\, with lots of lovely quiet trails to walk and soak it all up. We even spotted storks\, buzzards and believe we may have accidentally bumped into a wild boar too. The setting for lunch is fabulous. Really cosy atmosphere and delicious food. Some of us even jumped in the lake for a quick swim which was really refreshing.’\nLucy\, Slow Sunday Guest\, August 2025 \n‘Beautiful experience of reconnection to people\, place and soul.’\nSara\, Slow Sunday Guest\, August 2025. \nPlease Note:\n– Must be booked in advance. Please do not come without a ticket because we will not be able to accommodate you.\n– Adults only.\n– Alcohol-free.\n– Please bring swimwear and towels to go in the lake and/or sauna.\n– Please dress for the weather. This experience will go ahead in most weather conditions. If extreme weather prevents us from going ahead\, we will provide an alternative indoor experience on the same date.\n– Spaces are limited\, please book early to avoid disappointment.\n– As much as we love our four-legged friends\, we can not allow dogs on this experience.\n-Subject to availability. \nIf you have any questions\, please feel free to give our friendly team a call on 01373 887642 before booking.\nTerms & Conditions: \nTerms & Conditions – Workshops & Experiences

SUMMARY:Walt Disco – Live at the Tree House
DESCRIPTION:Walt Disco makes emotionally rich electronic rock with scale\, confidence\, and intent. Fronted by Jocelyn Si (she/her) alongside Finlay McCarthy\, Charlie Lock\, Lewis Carmichael\, and Jack Martin\, the band channels big feeling through deeply personal songwriting that is direct\, immersive\, and fully formed. \nTheir sound blends electronic production with analogue synths and driving band dynamics\, creating music that feels expansive without losing emotional focus. Walt Disco’s strength lies in clarity and purpose: the songs speak for themselves\, meeting listeners head-on without leaning on nostalgia or comparison. \nFollowing the acclaim of their debut album Unlearning\, the band have continued to build momentum with a growing international audience. Recent tours supporting Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark across Europe and the US\, alongside headline shows in North America\, marked a clear step forward and affirmed Walt Disco as a band ready for bigger stages. \nNow firmly in a building phase\, Walt Disco are focused on developing their live show\, releasing new material with intent\, and expanding their world at a steady\, confident pace. It’s a project defined by emotional honesty\, ambition\, and forward momentum. Walt Disco carve out a space that feels entirely their own. \nPlease note this is an 18+ all standing event\, and the venue is accessed by stairs with no lift. If you have any enquiries please email thetreehouse@cheeseandgrain.com

SUMMARY:Let's Talk about Alice exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Alice Seeley\, adopted daughter of Frome\, helped bring down a King – with a camera. \nIn 1898\, twenty-seven-year-old Alice Seeley Harris sailed for King Leopold II’s Congo Free State. Over the next seven years\, her photographs of forced rubber labour\, mutilated workers\, and a father named Nsala mourning his murdered daughter on the veranda of her mission station\, shocked the world. They became the visual evidence behind what historians now recognise as the first photographic human-rights campaign – predating the better-known American documentary work of Lewis Hine by several years. \nHer images\, projected in lantern-slide lectures across Britain and the United States\, helped force Leopold to cede the Congo in 1908. Then\, Alice was largely written out of her own story. Even Mark Twain\, who shared her most famous photograph in his 1905 satirical pamphlet King Leopold’s Soliloquy\, did not write her name. \nThis summer\, Photo|Frome and Frome Museum bring Alice’s work home. We follow Alice’s journey from Merchants Barton to the Maringa River and back. We explore the role of missionaries\, humanitarian photography and the recognition of women – and we ask what her photographs still demand of us in 2026. The exhibition is built with care for visitors of all ages: an outer ring of display panels tells Alice’s story\, while an inner ring displays Alice’s photographic evidence of human rights abuse\, for those who choose to see it. \nOpening hours\nThe Exhibition runs from 30 June to 22 August at Frome Museum. Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday\, 11am to 3pm\, plus Independent Market Sundays. \nEntry is free. \nSome of the photographs in the exhibition’s inner ring may be distressing.

SUMMARY:Frome Festival 25th Anniversary Gala Launch X King of Fools
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Frome Festival’s 25th anniversary with a gala launch of this year’s programme\, featuring Kairos Theatre’s acclaimed musical “King of Fools” written by former Frome Festival director Martin Dimery. Set in the court of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn\, Henry’s famous jester\, Will Sommers\, finds himself the butt of the King’s frustration as the royal divorce goes through interminable delays. Join for a celebratory reception from 7pm with fizz and refreshments. \n“King of Fools” is written by former Frome Festival Director\, Martin Dimery\, in musical collaboration with Helen Turner\, renowned keyboard player with Paul Weller’s Style Council\, and subsequent work. \nSet in the court of Henry the Eighth and Anne Boleyn\, Henry’s famous jester\, Will Sommers\, finds himself the butt of the King’s frustration as the royal divorce goes through interminable delays. Will discovers a young barmaid called Jane\, in a Cheapside tavern\, entertaining the regulars. Will thinks Jane could be the ideal companion and female jester for Anne. He presents her at court as “Jane Fool” and she becomes an instant success. He has also secretly fallen in love with her. As Henry’s disillusionment with Anne grows\, so Jane is drawn into Cromwell’s evil plot to be rid of Henry’s young queen. Anne\, though\, sees Jane as the perfect scapegoat\, setting up a gripping finale from the scaffold. \nThe musical score draws a range of styles from rock to vaudeville and Music Hall. Kairos Theatre Company incorporates experienced performers from around the region and specialises in presenting new or rarely seen plays. \n“Funny\, clever and brilliantly performed.” “Splendid book\, music\, singing\, dancing and acting.” \n*Note: This will take place in the main Merlin Theatre auditorium \nThis event is part of Frome Festival.

SUMMARY:Alice Seeley – Anti-Slavery Campaigner
DESCRIPTION:This joint exhibition with Photo|Frome presents searing photographs by Frome resident Alice Seeley (1870–1970) in King Leopold II’s Congo Free State. Using her Kodak camera\, she documented the mutilation of Congolese people under a brutal regime designed to enforce rubber production quotas. Shown internationally as lantern slides\, her images galvanised public opinion and resulted in the collapse of Leopold’s personal rule in 1908. Alice Seeley was arguably the first photographer to create and use her own images as part of an active campaign for social change. Some photographs in this exhibition may be distressing. \nThe exhibition runs during Frome Museum’s normal opening hours: 11am to 3pm Tuesday to Saturday\, plus Independent Market Sundays (5th July) \nwww.frome-museum.org \nThis event is part of Frome Festival.

SUMMARY:The Monochrome Set + Simon Chesterfield
DESCRIPTION:Highly influential post-punk/indie band\, The Monochrome Set. Loved by artists such as The Smiths\, Franz Ferdinand and Blur and covered by such diverse acts as Iggy Pop and Tracey Thorn\, this is a unique opportunity to see this legendary act at a small venue in Frome. The band features original Monochrome Set members Bid (guitar/vocals) and Andy Warren (bass) with Foz (guitar) Dave Morgan (drums) and Athen Ayren (keyboard). The Monochrome Set formed in 1978\, and were heavily influential in the post-punk scene that evolved after the initial scorched earth of punk. \nThe band’s early releases were on the legendary Rough Trade Label before signing with Virgin offshoot Din Disc. They also released several albums on the Cherry Red label\, making a notable appearance on that label’s well known “Pillows and Prayers” compilation.\nThough The Monochrome Set split in 1985 the next decade saw several reunions for both live gigs and further studio recordings. After a hiatus of over a decade the band reformed full time in 2010 and have since toured all over the UK\, Europe\, Japan and the USA\, whilst also releasing eight new\, critically acclaimed\, studio albums.\nNow in their 48th year\, they are beginning a new series of gigs promoting their latest album and playing songs old and new. \nSupport – Simon Chesterfield\nCo-founder and ever-present member of Yeovil-based indie pop band The Chesterfields\, Simon Chesterfield returns with a new pop band and new pop music. A seven inch single will be released by Spinout Nuggets in December.\nSimon Chesterfield’s eponymous debut album was released by German label Legere Recordings in October 2024\, a 10 inch vinyl album featuring six of Simon’s compositions reimagined as an orchestral performance. This was followed by a 7 inch single ‘Last Train To Christmas’ released by the Dutch label Snowflakes Christmas Single Club in November 2024\, landing somewhere between the orchestral sound of the 10 inch and the jangle pop of The Chesterfields.\nSimon’s new band line-up features Billy Shinbone (Neville Staple band\, The Sinclairs) on guitar and vocals\, Joe Atkinson (Donovan\, The Rhynes) on keyboards and vocals\, Wayne Higgins (John Parish band\, Radio Flyer) on bass guitar\, and producer Ben Scott Turner (i-nichi\, Evil Owl) on drums. \nThis event is part of Frome Festival.

DESCRIPTION:Join local Blues sensations Rosco Shakes for the launch party of their debut album ‘Hit The Ground’. \nFunded by fans and produced by local maestro Seb Brice at Indefra Studio\, the band has left its roots of jump blues behind and launched into a world of delta\, disco\, dark grooves and big blues. The band will be joined on stage by the local musicians who helped craft the record; it promises to be quite a show. \nWith a local support act and an after-party manned by the notorious Sneaky Pete’s Rodeo Club\, Rosco Shakes is planning to kick off the Festival with a bang. \nwww.roscoshakes.com \nThis event is part of Frome Festival.

SUMMARY:Frome Drama Presents Jean Genet’s the Maids
DESCRIPTION:An intimate reimagining of Genet’s The Maids\, set in contemporary Frome and performed at the Archangel. \nIn a curated bedroom of shabby-chic luxury and new-age calm\, two local cleaners rehearse roles\, rituals and revenge. Their employer — a glossy newcomer from the Babington House set — is always present\, even when absent. \nVoicenotes replace letters. Livestreams replace confessions. Screens watch back. Filtered through the language of social media and self-performance\, Genet’s dark fantasy of class\, power and desire unfolds at close quarters. \nWhat is real?\nWhat is performed?\nAnd who controls the narrative? \nUnsettling. Playful. Dangerously intimate.\nAdult themes. \nTimes stated are start of performance. Please arrive early to be seated. \nThis event is part of Frome Festival.
