SUMMARY:The Van Morrison Alumni Band
DESCRIPTION:“THESE SONGS ARE MEANT TO BE SUNG AND HEARD\, AND I AM REALLY HAPPY THAT LEO IS CARRYING THE TORCH” Van Morrison \nThe Van Morrison Alumni Band celebrates one of the greatest albums of all time. \nBack in February 1970\, aged just 24\, Van Morrison released Moondance—a record that would define an era and cement his place in music history. A seamless blend of jazz\, soul\, blues\, and R&B\, it gave us some of the most enduring songs ever written: Into the Mystic\, Crazy Love\, And It Stoned Me\, Caravan and that unforgettable title track. \nNow\, over half a century later\, The Van Morrison Alumni Band is bringing this landmark record back\, live on stage. Featuring musicians who have performed and recorded alongside Morrison himself\, join the band as they play all ten tracks in their original running order – along with the songs that Van Morrison recorded for the album\, but held back\, only to become hits several years later. Witness The Van Morrison Alumni Band capture the passion and spontaneity that made the album legendary\, as Leo Green delves into the making of Moondance through some extraordinary stories. \nThen enjoy a second half packed with Van Morrison’s most loved hits\, as Leo shares insight into the songs\, along with first-hand recollections of times on the road and in the studio with one of the greatest songwriters of our time. More than an album tribute\, this is an incredible journey inside the music\, told and performed by musicians who know Van Morrison’s world from the inside. \nTHE VAN MORRISON ALUMNI BAND IS A COLLECTION OF MUSICIANS WHO HAVE WORKED WITH VAN MORRISON. VAN MORRISON HIMSELF DOES NOT APPEAR OR TAKE PART IN ANY OF THE CONCERTS. \nThis event has a minimum age requirement of 10. Attendees under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

SUMMARY:Hayseed Dixie – Live at Rook Lane Chapel
DESCRIPTION:Hayseed Dixie was formed in the summer of 2000 on the front porch of a cabin in the Appalachian Mountains of East Tennessee\, when after drinking enough whiskey to float a battleship across the Sahara Desert\, it became suddenly obvious to the boys that the “Lost Highway” of Hank Williams and the “Highway To Hell” of AC/DC were the same damned road. The rest of the world first got a taste of the boys on April 17\, 2001 with the release of their first album\, titled “A Hillbilly Tribute To AC/DC”. \nThe band has since gone on to record 13 further albums containing both original songs and reinterpretations of previously known works\, albeit in their own inimitable style. Having sold over half a million albums worldwide and having played more than 1\,000 live shows on every continent except Antarctica\, Hayseed Dixie are acknowledged as the creators of the musical genre “Rockgrass.” \nLive at Rook Lane Chapel

SUMMARY:Nik Kershaw
DESCRIPTION:An intimate evening of songs\, stories and silliness in the company of Nik Kershaw. \nNik Kershaw exploded onto the UK pop scene in 1984. A string of global hit singles including ‘Wouldn’t it Be Good’\, ‘The Riddle’ and ‘I Won’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me’ saw him languish for 62 weeks on the UK Singles Chart\, making him the UK’s biggest selling solo artist that year. In 1985\, he performed at Live Aid. After stepping out of the limelight to concentrate on writing and producing\, Nik wrote Chesney Hawkes’s ‘The One and Only’ and collaborated with Elton John\, Lulu\, Petula Clark\, The Hollies\, Ronan Keating\, Jason Donovan\, Let Loose\, Sia\, Imogen Heap\, Gary Barlow and Bonnie Tyler. In 1998\, Nik returned to performing and has been crafting critically acclaimed albums ever since. Now he’s ready to look back with an intimate evening to coincide with the release of his new book. Expect songs\, stories\, and silliness from one of the nation’s most-loved performers.

SUMMARY:Frome Symphony: Holst the Planets\, Nielsen and Macens
DESCRIPTION:Frome Symphony: Holst The Planets\, Nielsen and Macens \nCarl Nielsen – Helios Overture\nElla Macens – The Space Between Stars\nGustav Holst – The Planets \nSun\, stars\, and the vast sweep of the cosmos — this spring concert is built around one of the most compelling themes in the orchestral repertoire\, and features a programme that moves from the ancient world to the present day. \nNielsen’s Helios Overture opens with a single\, sustained chord rising out of silence — the sun lifting above the horizon of the Aegean Sea\, just as Nielsen witnessed it during a stay in Greece in 1903. Over fifteen minutes\, the music traces the arc of a day: the slow build to a blazing midday climax\, and the long\, quiet fading as the sun sinks back below the sea. It is a piece that feels as elemental as the phenomenon it depicts. \nAustralian composer Ella Macens invites us\, in The Space Between Stars\, to imagine lying in an open field and gazing up at a sky alive with light. Written in the wake of her grandfather’s death and drawing on her Latvian heritage — in which the natural world carries deep symbolic meaning — the piece moves between delicate\, flickering passages and bold\, expansive writing\, holding the philosophical question at its heart: is the space between stars empty\, or is it full of something we cannot quite name? \nHolst’s The Planets needs little introduction\, yet never loses its capacity to astonish. Written between 1914 and 1917\, its seven movements range from the relentless dread of Mars to the ethereal\, wordless voices that close Neptune. It remains one of the most imaginative and purely thrilling things in the orchestral canon.

SUMMARY:The Royal Ballet: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
DESCRIPTION:*Screened Performance* \nAt a garden party on a sunny afternoon\, Alice is surprised to see her parents’ friend Lewis Carroll transform into a white rabbit. When she follows him down a rabbit hole\, events become curiouser and curiouser…As Alice journeys through Wonderland\, she encounters countless strange creatures. She’s swept off her feet by the charming Knave of Hearts\, who’s on the run for stealing the tarts. Confusion piles upon confusion. Then Alice wakes with a start. Was it all a daydream? \nChristopher Wheeldon’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland burst onto the stage in 2011 in an explosion of colour\, stage magic and inventive\, sophisticated choreography. Joby Talbot’s score combines contemporary soundworlds with sweeping melodies that gesture to ballet scores of the 19th century. Bob Crowley’s wildly imaginative\, eye-popping designs draw on everything from puppetry to projections to make Wonderland wonderfully real. The result shows The Royal Ballet at its best\, bringing together world-class dance with enchanting family entertainment and ingenious music and design. \nRunning Time: 170 minutes\, two intervals\nTickets: £18\nFriends of Merlin: £15 \nBOOK TICKETS

SUMMARY:Village Boys: A Long-Term Mentoring Group
DESCRIPTION:Village Boys is a new weekly mentoring group at The Village Frome for boys aged 8–12. \nLed by Luke and Rob\, the group offers boys the chance to spend regular time with trusted male mentors\, build strong relationships and become part of a community where they are known\, needed and trusted. \nDays are rooted in the land and shaped around practical skills\, real responsibility\, adventure and contribution. The boys will build and make\, use tools\, cook over fire\, grow food\, explore the woods\, care for the land and take on real jobs that matter. \nAs the group develops there will also be adventures\, expeditions and rites of passage\, with the intention that this becomes something the boys grow with over time rather than simply another weekly activity. \nAt the heart of Village Boys is the opportunity for boys to experience healthy masculinity through relationship: spending time alongside good men and seeing how they work\, listen\, lead\, care and contribute. \nThursdays\, 10am–3pm\, term time \nAges 8–12\n£40 per session \nStarting September at The Village\, Frome. \nTo register your interest\, email villagefrome@gmail.com or visit thevillagefrome.co.uk.

SUMMARY:The Wurzels
DESCRIPTION:The Wurzels have paved the way for Scrumpy n’ Western – a genre packed full of double entendre\, mainstream parody and a comical folk style. The perfect accompaniment to cider drinking. \nPerforming a career spanning set consisting of all the hits\, stories and jokes from a career lasting more than 50 years\, The Wurzels continue to play over 100 sell-out shows and festivals every year. \nTheir quintessentially West Country cover of Kaiser Chiefs’ ‘Ruby’ has been a massive show favourite of late\, as well as their hip hop version of the ubiquitous hit ‘Combine Harvester’. \nThe Wurzels are regularly asked how long will they keep going. The band always respond that they intend to keep going whilst they enjoy performing – and that suits the rest of us just fine!

SUMMARY:UK Subs (Farewell Show) + Steve Ignorant Band + Subhumans
DESCRIPTION:UK Subs (Final Frome Show)\n+ special guests The Steve Ignorant Band & Subhumans\nThat time will eventually arrive and… \nThe U.K. SUBS\, after 50 fun-packed\, furious\, fast-paced FAN-tastic years\, are officially calling it a day\, in order to pass the torch over to the hundreds of younger punk bands who they’ve hopefully inspired for half a century! \nSince forming in the summer of 1977\, Charlie and the band have stood as the relentless beating heart of British punk rock\, outlasting eras\, trends\, and peers with an unmatched work ethic. \nDriven by Charlie’s indefatigable energy which forged a fiercely loyal fanbase\, the U.K. Subs proved that punk was never a passing phase\, but a lifelong commitment… \nThe U.K. Subs are proud to have played gigs in every single year from 1977. Fact! \nFrom the roaring hooks of the debut album Another Kind of Blues the band eventually completed an album for every letter of the alphabet and beyond. \nWhat an achievement. \nThe U.K. Subs have played thousands upon thousands of sweaty\, high-octane gigs across the globe in venues both small and huge\, and in doing so\, they’ve truly defined that never-say-die spirit of DIY independence. \n“Fifty years is one hell of a run\, and we want to finish it on our own terms — loud\, heavy\, and completely undiminished. We are infinitely grateful to all previous members of the band\, those behind the scenes who’ve helped keep our show on the road\, and especially to every single person who has bought our records or merch\, and chatted with us at the bar at a show\, we are so grateful to have the best set of fans in the world\, so we will see you somewhere on the road for this last hurrah. Let’s make our last shows in 2027 historical. It’s going to be emotional!
