SUMMARY:Ali Burns Singing Workshop with Jennie Fisk
DESCRIPTION:Join Ali Burns and Jennie Fisk for a day of glorious a-cappella harmony singing in the lovely Rook Lane Chapel\, Frome \nA day of glorious harmony singing with truly inspiring song leader and composer Ali Burns joined by co-leader\, the lovely Jennie Fisk. Whether you’re a seasoned singer or consider yourself a novice\, this workshop is perfect for all levels. Songs will be taught by ear in a relaxed and welcoming environment. \nAli says “I love the way that harmony singing is such an equaliser; the way singers lift each other to sing things we wouldn’t necessarily manage on our own. \nAnd I love the way you can leave the weight of daily life at the door and know that no matter how low or out of sorts you’re feeling\, singing will lift you into a better place”. \nhttps://aliburns.co.uk/ \nThis workshop is hosted by Clara Atkins ‘Sing With Clarity’. Clara leads two community choirs\, a peace choir and a women’s wellbeing singing circle\, as well as running one-off singing workshops. “I am a big fan of Ali’s work and teach many of her songs to my choirs. I am excited to be hosting her in Frome and can’t wait to hear what songs she’ll be sharing with us! Ali is an incredible composer and teacher. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to sing with her – she doesn’t come down this way very often!” \nWhat’s it all about?\nYou will learn songs by ear in harmony over the course of the day. SUMMARY:A Flock of Ravens: The business of death in eighteenth-century England
DESCRIPTION:Join death historian Dr Dan O’Brien for a talk about the origins of the undertaking trade in eighteenth-century England. \nFunerary businesses are common on high streets across the country and an important part of the response to death in our communities. How did this trade and its familiar services come to be\, where and why did the funeral trade begin? This talk journeys through eighteenth-century England to discover the origins of the funeral trade and the identifies of some of the first undertakers. These were entrepreneurs whose products were a mix of the familiar and the extraordinary; from coffins\, through hearses to hired mourners who attended the funeral. Our encounter with these products will be illustrated by the accounts from across eighteenth-century society: participants\, spectators and even critics. We see how the undertakers worked and observe how the satire of the period captured fears and uncertainties about their motives. \nDr Dan is a research fellow at the Centre for Death and Society at the University of Bath. His research focuses on the death in eighteenth-century England and popular perceptions of the undertaking trade. Dan also talks publicly to a wide range of audiences on different themes in mortality history such as funerary gifts\, sea burial and mourning jewellery. He has recently appeared on History Hit’s After Dark podcast talking about the funeral of Queen Victoria and described a funerary crime on Killing Time with Rebecca Rideal.

SUMMARY:Bruce Juice : The Springsteen Experience – Live at The Tree House
DESCRIPTION:A SENSATIONAL SPRINGSTEEN EXPERIENCE \nA live injection of Bruce Juice during the long years between Bruce Springsteen’s tours\, this new band provides a vibrant tonic pumped into every aching hungry heart. \nYou can expect an ‘E-Street’ experience that captures the unique seven-piece band line-up through arrangements from legendary concerts such as the Main Point to the Bottom Line\, Passaic\, Winterland and Tempe. \nThe band reproduces the original arrangements from the 1970s Wild\, Innocent and a slow\, bluesy ‘E Street Shuffle’ as well as the iconic anthems from the ‘Born to Run’ tour. \nMore gems from the 1980s capture the crisp\, rasping sound of the ‘Professor’s’ piano\, Federici’s organ and Clarence’s sax from ‘The River’ tour\, as well as a few stadium foot-stompers from the ‘Born in the USA’ tour. \nBruce Juice stands out as there are usually couple of surprise gems thrown in\, with some great Bruce songs that don’t normally feature in tributes\, but are much loved by Bruce fans. \nThis is the only Springsteen tribute band that combines both popular favourites with the essence of Springsteen’s arrangements in legendary live gigs and an unforgettable show. \nThe term ‘tribute band’ doesn’t really fit – it is just that there isn’t another word. We are not trying to pay tribute to Bruce as if he has won an award or passed away. Instead\, we absolutely LOVE his music and everything about the energy and passion with which he and the E Street Band deliver unforgettable shows. \nPlease note this is an 18+ all-standing event\, and the venue is accessed by stairs with no lift. SUMMARY:The Allergies (DJ Set) – Live At The Tree House
DESCRIPTION:“The Allergies music is big\, bouncy and fat! Just how I like my funk” – Craig Charles\, BBC 6 Music. \nIf you like crazy turntable skills\, and hands-in-the-air beats\, all mixed up with some classy crowd-rocking music\, then an Allergies double-decking DJ set will be right up your street. “We like breaks\, funky basslines\, horns\, and dancefloor grooves. We’re inspired by the golden eras of funk\, soul\, disco and hip-hop\, and we try and cram that into three and a half minutes”. \nThe duo of DJ Moneyshot and Rackabeat have been delighting dancefloors and lighting up the radio airwaves since forming The Allergies and releasing their debut album in 2016. \nYear in\, year out\, they’ve sharpened their skills on the turntables and in the studio\, dropping one dynamite record after another. \nTouring the world\, clocking up A List status and Album of the Day gongs at BBC Radio 6 Music\, as well as soundtracking international ad campaigns\, the pair show no sign of stopping the fun. \nAfter consecutive top 40 albums\, the boys just dropped number seven – Freak The Speaker. \nAs usual\, the Bristol-based beatmakers have assembled a crack team to help bring their loops to life. LA rap legend\, Andy Cooper (Ugly Duckling) is back on board\, alongside the mighty pipes of Marietta Smith (House Gospel Choir). And British sax institution\, James Morton – Also all staples of The Allergies live show act. \nPlus\, guest spots from some super special MCs and vocalists from both sides of The Pond including Brooklyn’s own hip-hop heavyweight\, Ohmega Watts. Mercury Prize winner\, Dynamite MC. Afro futurist\, K.O.G. Welsh rap talent\, Skunkadelic. And British hip-hop veteran\, Dr Syntax. \nIt continues to build on what first bonded the pair\, after meeting on the festival circuit – A love of funk and hip-hop\, and the great melting pot that makes up the music. \nMoneyshot had already made a name for himself as a resident on Ninja Tune’s Solid Steel radio. Gaining worldwide fame for his DJ mixes\, with Rolling Stone magazine ranking him in their ’25 Greatest Internet DJ Mixes of All Time’ feature. \nAnd Rackabeat\, a successful drum ’n’ bass producer\, had already banged out a string of releases\, including remixing dance music royalty like Groove Armada. \nMixing this keen ear for a sample\, and some polished studio know-how\, provided the perfect formula for The Allergies sound. Inspired by producers like Cut Chemist\, Public Enemy’s Bomb Squad\, and the kaleidoscopic sampledelica of acts like The Avalanches and vintage De La Soul\, they raid the past to make music for the future. \nClassic tracks from their back catalogue like ‘God Walked Down’\, ’Felony’ and ‘Every Trick In The Book’\, which continue to rack up tens of millions of plays\, are prime examples of The Allergies vision – To take dusty grooves from forgotten wax and pull out soulful hooks\, add hip-hop energy and driving drums\, to make something new and exciting that hits your heart\, as much as it does your dancing feet. \nPlease note this is an 18+ event\, and the venue is accessed by stairs with no lift.
