SUMMARY:5 Springs Pilgrimage
DESCRIPTION:Nestled in the valley beneath Bratton Camp\, once home to the Iron Age Dubonni tribe\, a number of springs issue forth from the chalk and greensand. What significance might these springs have held to the Celtic tribes? \nDrawing on archaeological research\, this will be an exploration of the sacred landscape. We will walk in the footsteps of those Celtic ancestors\, and echoing their veneration of Springs and Rivers – a recognition of the sacred power of water\, we’ll perform a short blessing at each Spring. \nWhat is the difference between a Walk and a Pilgrimage? Primarily\, it is about intention: walking the old tracks becomes a spiritual act when walked with intention – by doing so we help to preserve and strengthen those ancient songlines…….the Earth re-awakens to our heartfelt care\, and we are healed in return. \nWhilst led by an experienced Druid Ceremonialist\, this is an inclusive walk\, welcoming of all faiths and none. If you wish to step aside and quietly observe the Blessings rather than take part\, please feel free to do so… \nWe’ll also visit the infamous Bloodstone\, where it’s reputed Kind Alfred’s army beheaded the Danes at the Battle of Ethandun. If time\, there is the option to visit Edington Priory.

SUMMARY:Illyria: as You Like It
DESCRIPTION:In this play\, Shakespeare explores Love in all its guises. Four pairs of soulmates meet in the mysterious Forest of Arden. One pair leaps straight into bed. Another pair is instantaneously dumbstruck by each other’s beauty and pledges their undying troth. The third pair torment each other: he showers chaste love upon her\, which she haughtily rejects – yet secretly she enjoys the flattery. The fourth pair go further still\, playfully blurring their roles and identities to such an extent that flirting becomes more pain than pleasure\, and Love itself is pushed to the limit of its endurance – and beyond. \nThroughout the summer\, Shakespeare’s iconic comedy will be performed where its action is set – in the great outdoors\, by a 5-strong cast of classically trained professional actors. Multi-award-winning Illyria has an unmatched reputation for excellence\, forged over three decades\, that dominates the outdoor touring theatre sector. Join them this summer for a memorable night of laughter and romance under the stars. \nThis performance will be outdoors at the E.C.O.S. Amphitheatre. Please bring blankets\, cushions\, and chairs. We welcome picnics\, but please buy drinks from our bar. In the event of bad weather\, this event will move inside. \nRunning time: 140 minutes plus interval\nRecommended: All ages\nTickets: £18 | Child: £10 (Under 10) | Concessions: £14\nRegistered carers go free

SUMMARY:Family Reptile Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Calling all children with a sense of adventure and a curiosity about the natural world. \nDo you have a child who loves discovering wildlife? Join our brilliant volunteer reptile surveyor\, Lynne Sewell\, for a small-group Family Reptile Adventure\, where you’ll explore the fascinating world of Britain’s native reptiles. \nLynne knows all the best places to look and will lead a gentle walk around Heal Somerset\, sharing her knowledge of the reptiles that call the site home. Along the way\, you’ll learn how to spot and identify different species\, discover the habitats they depend on and keep an eye out for plenty of other summer wildlife too. \nThe walk also takes in our thriving wetlands\, where you’ll be able to see the remarkable changes our resident beavers have been making to the landscape and you may even meet our friendly\, wild-living tamworth pigs\, Ticket and Tailor. \nLizards and other species you might see: At Heal\, we have recorded common lizard\, slow worm\, grass snake\, common toad and all three native newt species: smooth newt\, palmate newt and great crested newt. You can also expect to see dragonflies\, butterflies\, birds and a host of other summer wildlife. \nAbout your guide\, Lynne \nLynne has been interested in reptiles and amphibians for as long as she can remember. As a child\, she would lift rocks or discarded sheets of corrugated iron in the hope of finding reptiles sheltering beneath them. Lynne says “on one memorable occasion\, I even jumped into a lake to catch a grass snake which I then took home to my long-suffering parents! That fascination has stayed with me throughout my life\, and I still feel a thrill whenever I lift something that might be hiding a reptile or amphibian underneath. I feel lucky to be able to regularly survey for reptiles at Heal”.

SUMMARY:Twilight Beaver Watch
DESCRIPTION:This is a rare opportunity to join a small group for a twilight beaver watch and experience the magic of seeing these remarkable animals living wild. You’ll enjoy a peaceful and immersive evening watching wildlife emerge as day turns to night. \nOur thriving beaver family has really made themselves at home on site at Heal Somerset\, establishing an impressive lodge and building a network of dams. They have been busy transforming the landscape in extraordinary ways and they are creating thriving wetlands that support a wealth of wildlife\, improve water quality and increase biodiversity. \nFull disclosure: beavers are often seen from the viewing area\, so there’s a good chance that you’ll see at least one\, but we can’t guarantee it. But even if you don’t\, you will learn lots about them as well as witness their hard work whilst spending valuable time in nature. \nEach beaver watch will be carefully led by experienced wildlife guide Nick Patel. His respectful approach will minimise disturbance as the beavers’ wellbeing is always the priority. We ask that all attendees follow this approach. \nAbout your workshop leader\, Nick Patel: \nNick is a tour guide\, conservationist\, naturalist and birder and is passionate about helping to protect\, create and maintain British wildlife. A lifelong Birdwatcher\, and former Nature reserve Warden\, Nick has devoted his life to shouting about how amazing our native biodiversity is and just why we should care for it. \nNick says “Having led tours here at Heal Somerset for two years now\, I’ve witnessed first-hand the speed at which nature has already made a comeback. I’m super passionate about showing everyone who visits the site the wealth of wildlife bouncing back\, including some really beautiful species and fabulous rewilding habitats.”
