DESCRIPTION:A relaxed\, monthly volunteer gathering to support nature restoration. Rooted in a spirit of community and curiosity. Join us to learn new skills\, spend time in nature\, and connect with like-minded folk. \nCome and spend a few hours in nature doing something that matters. No experience is necessary\, just a willingness to get stuck in and try something new. \n42 Acres has been a rewilding nature reserve for over a decade and is species-rich. Join us to connect with the natural world through hands-on activities from wildlife surveying\, to tending habitats\, and slowing down with nature photography. \nSessions run on the last Sunday of the month 10am-2pm (except in May when we are meeting at 8pm for bats and beavers!). There will be time to connect\, wander\, and simply be outside. If you’re up for it\, you’re welcome to join in for a wild swim too. At 1pm we’ll stop and share a simple lunch together\, provided by 42 Acres. \n____ \nSun 31 May: Bats and Beavers: \nPart of the Great Somerset Wildlife Count\, with guest expert Keith Ball (Somerset Bat Group). Please note: this is an evening session\, running 8–10pm\, as we head out for some gentle nocturnal exploration. \nSun 28 June: Hazel Dormice & Reading Nature: \nJoin us to create footprint tunnels for hazel dormice to discover whether this protected species (that have been spotted on neighbouring land!) exist at 42. We’ll also take a relaxed walk around the 11-acre lake\, recording observations and contributing to global biodiversity databases. We’ll look for signs of beaver activity\, tracks\, and birdlife\, and finish at the white stork enclosure\, part of our species reintroduction work. Guided by Lynne Sewell (Sustainable Witham)\, Robyn Caple (@nestandnettleecology)\, and Lisa Hawes (42 Acres). \nSun 26 July: Butterflies\, Dragonflies + Pond Dipping: \nPart of the UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme\, one of the longest-running insect surveys in the world. With guest expert Fred Giles\, we’ll explore the world of butterflies\, dragonflies\, and other insects\, with a chance to get closer through pond dipping and observation. \nSun 30 Aug: Reptiles and Botanics: \nJoin us to check reptile refuges across the site\, helping us understand which species are present (and which are likely absent). Or take a creative route\, help us start making a handmade herbarium for the site while learning how to “key out”\, a step by step process used to identify unknown plant species. \nSun 27 Sep: Trees\nDiscover the stories of Britain’s ancient and veteran trees\, and learn how to identify and photograph them in their late-summer form. \nSun 25 Oct: Harvest Mice and Native Fungi:\nHelp us ascertain whether harvest mice are present on the land at 42\, we’ll search together for their tiny nests. SUMMARY:Rewilding in Action: A Tour of Heal Somerset with Heal Co-Founder Jan Stannard
DESCRIPTION:Come along and learn more about nature-led recovery at Heal’s first rewilding site\, Heal Somerset. \nHeal Somerset began its recovery from its ecologically depleted state at the beginning of 2023 and nature here is already beginning to bounce back. This tour is a unique opportunity to spend time with Heal’s co-founder and acting CEO\, Jan Stannard\, who will take you around part of our beautiful site on mown paths. \nYou will learn more around the wider context of rewilding\, including the reasons we need it and the benefits it brings to nature\, the climate and to our own wellbeing. Jan will talk about the rewilding principles that Heal follows and give you an insight into some of our plans for the land\, particularly the interventions we’re considering and our plans for future livestock introductions. The group will also hear about some of the changes we have seen on the site already\, including the very welcome appearance of wild-living beavers. \nYou will also hopefully experience some of the varied wildlife we have on site\, but even if the creatures are elusive on the day\, we know you will still find the site a beautiful\, peaceful and restorative place to be. \nYour tour will finish with refreshments in our 17th century farmhouse where conversations about rewilding and Heal can continue.

SUMMARY:Nexus exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Nexus brings three artists together for a diverse exhibition of work\, examining different styles that share commonalities through their collective interpretation of colour\, composition\, and form. \nThis exhibition combines different approaches to contemporary art under one roof. Influenced by our individual experiences and ways of portraying the world\, Mark Elliott Smith\, Bernard Charnley and Kate Cochrane\, collaborate and provoke our perspectives and insights into specific genres. \nMark Elliott Smith’s work brings something new to abstraction. Inspired by dance and costume\, mediaeval art\, and his response to music\, he builds images which are analogues of the process of construction and destruction\, fragmentation and coherence. Painting in layers of flat acrylic colour\, his work animates space while creating the illusion of depth\, imparting an energising\, positive sense of possibility through his playful use of colour and form. \nBernard Charnley combines layered oil paint with oil bars and inserted sections of canvas\, creating work which moves between abstraction and figuration\, examining the relationships between geometry\, surface\, depth\, and illusion as imprints of the human. His interest in philosophy informs his portfolio of work\, which reflects on the nature of social fracture. \nKate Cochrane works in a variety of media\, including oils\, acrylics\, gouache\, and dry pastels. No experience is needed — just curiosity and a sense of adventure. Our sessions are designed to inspire creativity in every child\, whatever their background or ability.\nAs well as making amazing art\, there’ll be campfires\, outdoor games and plenty of time to explore the site. DESCRIPTION:Nestled in the valley beneath Bratton Camp\, once home to the Iron Age Dubonni tribe\, a number of springs issue forth from the chalk and greensand. What significance might these springs have held to the Celtic tribes? \nDrawing on archaeological research\, this will be an exploration of the sacred landscape. We will walk in the footsteps of those Celtic ancestors\, and echoing their veneration of Springs and Rivers – a recognition of the sacred power of water\, we’ll perform a short blessing at each Spring. \nWhat is the difference between a Walk and a Pilgrimage? Primarily\, it is about intention: walking the old tracks becomes a spiritual act when walked with intention – by doing so we help to preserve and strengthen those ancient songlines…….the Earth re-awakens to our heartfelt care\, and we are healed in return. \nWhilst led by an experienced Druid Ceremonialist\, this is an inclusive walk\, welcoming of all faiths and none. If you wish to step aside and quietly observe the Blessings rather than take part\, please feel free to do so… \nWe’ll also visit the infamous Bloodstone\, where it’s reputed Kind Alfred’s army beheaded the Danes at the Battle of Ethandun. If time\, there is the option to visit Edington Priory.

The fourth pair go further still\, playfully blurring their roles and identities to such an extent that flirting becomes more pain than pleasure\, and Love itself is pushed to the limit of its endurance – and beyond. \nThroughout the summer\, Shakespeare’s iconic comedy will be performed where its action is set – in the great outdoors\, by a 5-strong cast of classically trained professional actors.
