Led by expert guide Nick Patel\, this gentle walk offers the chance to slow down\, enjoy the season together and reconnect with wildlife. \nAs the landscape awakens\, you’ll discover the first signs of life in this rewilding haven\, from insects taking flight and birdsong filling the air to the early blooms of wildflowers. \nAs the season awakens\, this relaxed guided walk offers a unique opportunity to witness the first signs of life emerging in a rewilding landscape\, from the first insects on the wing\, singing birds to the early bloom of wildflowers. \nNick will share his deep knowledge of local ecosystems and the rich diversity of wildlife that live within them\, sharing fascinating insights into the flora and fauna that make Heal Somerset a sanctuary for nature and helping you spot some of the wildlife on site including\, hopefully\, some early migrating birds. \nWhat you might see: cuckooflower\, coltsfoot\, dead nettles and violets\, and hopefully you may catch a glimpse of some amazing spring birds and wildlife including wheatear\, sand martin\, chiffchaff\, peacock\, brimstone\, tawny mining bee\, early bumblebee and perhaps even a common lizard.

DESCRIPTION:Frome Window Wanderlands have been a beloved annual event since 2018. It’s a wonderful opportunity to unleash your creativity\, engage with your community\, and celebrate the fun and artistry that Frome has to offer. Together\, we can turn the streets into a delightful outdoor gallery for everyone to enjoy! \nThis year we’re teaming up with the lovely folk at The Good Heart and running Frome Window Wanderland in conjunction with Frome Kindness Festival. That’s 8 full nights available for wandering. Teaming up with The Kindness Festival also fits nicely with the overall theme for Window Wanderlands throughout the country this year: ‘Hope’. You don’t have to use this theme for your window\, but if it sparks something for you do run with it. \nTaking part as a Windowmaker is FREE\, and everyone’s welcome. You can make a display in the windows of your flat\, house\, business\, school\, nursery\, car\, campervan\, shop – or your front garden! \nDon’t worry\, there’s no need to feel overwhelmed. Your setup can be as easy as placing a candle\, a book\, or some fairy lights in your window. Alternatively\, you could really get creative and put on a show in your living room! DESCRIPTION:Discover how humans and beavers are joining forces to restore vibrant wetland ecosystems at Heal Somerset. On this guided walk and talk with rewilding ranger Daniel Hill\, you will experience first-hand these developing wetlands and learn how dams\, ponds\, scrapes and more can shape water movement\, biodiversity\, and habitat recovery. Together you will explore how beaver activity and human intervention can complement each other to create healthier habitats\, cleaner water\, and climate-resilient ecosystems. \nAbout Daniel Hill \nAs the Rewilding Ranger at Heal Somerset\, Dan manages the site’s monitoring and land management programs. You can find him surveying for signs of beavers\, co-ordinating volunteer work parties\, or working with partners to deliver the hydrological restoration plan\, amongst a huge variety of other tasks. Dan’s passion for nature was sparked as a child growing up on an organic small holding in rural south Wales watching red kites soar above. His love of rewilding developed through volunteering with the RSPB on the Somerset Levels after completing a degree in Mathematical Sciences.

SUMMARY:Rewilding in Action: A Tour of Heal Somerset with Heal Co-Founder Jan Stannard
DESCRIPTION:Come along and learn more about nature-led recovery at Heal’s first rewilding site\, Heal Somerset.\nHeal Somerset began its recovery from its ecologically depleted state at the beginning of 2023 and nature here is already beginning to bounce back. This tour is a unique opportunity to spend time with Heal’s co-founder and acting CEO\, Jan Stannard\, who will take you around part of our beautiful site on mown paths. \nYou will learn more around the wider context of rewilding\, including the reasons we need it and the benefits it brings to nature\, the climate and to our own wellbeing. Jan will talk about the rewilding principles that Heal follows and give you an insight into some of our plans for the land\, particularly the interventions we’re considering and our plans for future livestock introductions. The group will also hear about some of the changes we have seen on the site already\, including the very welcome appearance of wild-living beavers. \nYou will also hopefully experience some of the varied wildlife we have on site\, but even if the creatures are elusive on the day\, we know you will still find the site a beautiful\, peaceful and restorative place to be. \nYour tour will finish with refreshments in our 17th century farmhouse where conversations about rewilding and Heal can continue.

DESCRIPTION:Frome Youth Climate Action group will be bringing their powerful\, thought-provoking artwork to the streets of Frome. The group will carry ‘Plastic Bones’ – their handmade globe sculpture created from rubbish collected on local streets along with natural and recycled materials – from the Cheese & Grain car park\, moving through Frome to Rook Lane Chapel\, where a screening of the thought-provoking documentary Future Council will take place from 2pm to 4pm\, followed by a Q&A session with the group. \nThe procession starts at 11am from the Cheese & Grain car park.
