SUMMARY:Rewilding in Action: A Tour of Heal Somerset with Heal Co-Founder Jan Stannard
DESCRIPTION:Come along and learn more about nature-led recovery at Heal’s first rewilding site\, Heal Somerset.\nHeal Somerset began its recovery from its ecologically depleted state at the beginning of 2023 and nature here is already beginning to bounce back. This tour is a unique opportunity to spend time with Heal’s co-founder and acting CEO\, Jan Stannard\, who will take you around part of our beautiful site on mown paths. \nYou will learn more around the wider context of rewilding\, including the reasons we need it and the benefits it brings to nature\, the climate and to our own wellbeing. Jan will talk about the rewilding principles that Heal follows and give you an insight into some of our plans for the land\, particularly the interventions we’re considering and our plans for future livestock introductions. The group will also hear about some of the changes we have seen on the site already\, including the very welcome appearance of wild-living beavers. \nYou will also hopefully experience some of the varied wildlife we have on site\, but even if the creatures are elusive on the day\, we know you will still find the site a beautiful\, peaceful and restorative place to be. \nYour tour will finish with refreshments in our 17th century farmhouse where conversations about rewilding and Heal can continue.

SUMMARY:Summer Solstice Pilgrimage
DESCRIPTION:A Pilgrimage through the Sacred\, Ritual Landscape of White Sheet Hill to align with the energies of the sun at it’s zenith. \nAway from the bustle of Stonehenge\, enjoy a peaceful and uplifting Solstice celebration with an experienced Druid Ceremonialist. \nRooted in the ancient ritual landscape\, we will walk in the footsteps of the ancestors. \nExpect Pilgrim practices – moments of silent contemplation\, singing and chanting\, for example. \nWhilst led by an experienced Druid Ceremonialist\, this is an inclusive walk\, welcoming of all faiths and none. If you wish to step aside and quietly observe rather than take part\, please feel free to do so… \nWhat is the difference between a Walk and a Pilgrimage? Primarily\, it is about intention: walking the old tracks becomes a spiritual act when walked with intention – by doing so we help to preserve and strengthen those ancient songlines…….the Earth re-awakens to our heartfelt care\, and we are healed in return. \nStarting at the Neolithic enclosures of White Sheet Hill\, we will discuss the relevance of this important archaeological feature and how it relates to the wider ritual landscape. \nWe will continue on through species rich grassland\, abundant in Orchids\, to the source of the River Wylye\, revered as a Goddess by both the ancients and modern Druids. \nOur circular route will bring beautiful and far reaching views\, and more archaeological and ritual features – Bronze Age Barrow Cemeteries\, Neolithic Settlements\, and an Iron Age Hillfort. \nA Roman road will take us back to our start point\, where we will hold a short ceremony at sunset to open the Vigil Observance- where traditionally people sleep- fast\, staying awake in meditation and contemplation to greet the Solstice sunrise. To end our ceremony participants will be offered a tipple of specially crafted Mead (‘The drink of the Gods and the Druids’ – made with Meadowsweet and Mugwort\, Chalice Well and White Spring water) or Apple Juice\, and we will break bread (or cake!) before returning home. \n*Please note that whilst we hope for the beautiful weather and glorious sunset of previous years\, the weather can’t be guaranteed and this Pilgrimage will proceed regardless of the weather.

SUMMARY:Nature Safari
DESCRIPTION:As part of the ‘Great Big Green Week’ we are holding a very special event to give you a chance to see Frome like you’ve never seen it before. We’ve partnered with Nick Patel\, a local tour guide and conservationist from Wilder Skies to take you on a gentle walk along some very familiar sections of the river Frome\, including Welshmill woods\, Rodden meadow and Adderwell wetlands. Nick will highlight some of the incredible flora and fauna that can be found along the river. We’ll discover just how rich the habitats are along the river\, throughout the town\, and how they’re improving due to the conservation work currently going on from human and beaver help. \nThis event is for all those interested in learning more about our town’s amazing wealth of wildlife and for all ages and levels of experience. To make your walk as pleasant as possible\, wear sturdy boots and comfortable clothes. Bring a water bottle\, a snack and a pair of binoculars\, if you have one.
