SUMMARY:Adam Frost
DESCRIPTION:Award-winning British garden designer and BBC Gardeners’ World presenter\, Adam Frost\, is leaving the garden and heading back out on tour! \nIn his most personal show to date\, Adam will discuss the plants that have shaped his life and reflect on what’s brought him to where he is now. He’ll unearth the inspiration he’s found through a life in the garden\, the people he’s met along the way\, the music that’s steered his course and why he identifies as an ‘old romantic fool’. \nAdam will share previously untold stories of how his passion for plants has taken him around the world and challenged him with unexpected experiences – from curating a garden in Japan during a monsoon to meeting heroes. \nCloser to home\, gardening is fundamental to Adam’s sense of family\, wellbeing and recovery. In September 2021\, he found himself grappling with the mental scars of the pandemic and facing a momentous house (or more importantly\, garden) move. He’ll talk about navigating that change and reconnecting with nature. \nAdam will also explore the creative act of putting a garden together and how he’s had to learn to embrace his artistic side. \nDon’t miss your chance to hear Adam’s amusing anecdotes and poignant reflections\, and to immerse yourself not just in gardening\, but in human nature itself and the madness of it all.

SUMMARY:Badly Drawn Boy – Live & In Conversation
DESCRIPTION:It was June 2000 when The Hour of the Bewilderbeast won the Mercury Prize and announced the arrival of the beautifully idiosyncratic songwriting talent of Damon Gough aka Badly Drawn Boy. A record full of fragile honesty\, melodic brilliance and emotional depth\, it marked the beginning of a career that would prove as unpredictable as it was enduring. \nOver the years\, Badly Drawn Boy has released a string of acclaimed albums\, including Have You Fed The Fish?\, One Plus One Is One\, Born In The UK\, and It’s What I’m Thinking Part 1: Photographing Snowflakes\, each charting new emotional and musical territory. Alongside these came celebrated film soundtracks\, most notably About A Boy\, the Gold-certified\, much-loved score to the 2002 film starring Hugh Grant\, featuring fan favourites “Silent Sigh” and “Something To Talk About.” \nMore than two decades on from his breakthrough\, Badly Drawn Boy remains one of Britain’s most singular musical voices — a songwriter capable of moments that are tender\, funny\, melancholic and euphoric\, often all at once. \nIn this special Live & In Conversation evening\, he joins BBC 6 Music’s Chris Hawkins for an intimate show of songs and stories spanning an extraordinary career. Expect stripped-back live performances\, reflections on the making of classic records\, behind-the-scenes tales from the Mercury Prize era and beyond\, and a candid look at the highs\, lows and magic that have shaped his journey. \nChris Hawkins is one of BBC 6 Music’s most respected broadcasters\, whose interview credits include Calvin Harris\, The Killers\, Florence Welch\, Dave Grohl\, Björk\, and Jack White. \nThis is a rare opportunity to experience the man behind the music up close\, honest\, warm\, revealing and\, as ever\, wonderfully unpredictable.

SUMMARY:A Portrait Of The Menopause Book by Catrin Osborne Launch
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 21st May\, 7pm\, Frome Town Hall (in association with Winstone’s Books) \nWhen Catrin Osborne\, a multidisciplinary artist born in Trowbridge\, experienced menopause and it hit her “like a ton of bricks”\, she decided to find out what other women going through it were experiencing. \nHer quest took 3 years\, travelling all over the UK and asking people about the positives and negatives of this time in their lives. \nThe result was an exhibition which toured the UK with portraits and interviews\, and is now a photography book with stories from the women – in their words – published by Black Dog Press. \nIt acknowledges the first-hand experiences of 80 women and people who are experiencing menopause. All too often misunderstood by doctors and society\, they share their first-hand accounts of physical and mental symptoms\, of shame and isolation\, but also of discovery\, strength and newfound freedom. \n“Visionary and just bad ass” Shaena – participant. Circus performer and director of Pirates Of The Carabina \n“Moving and meaningful.. The images were beautiful and intimate in a warm-hearted\, reflective way – and the texts were truly insightful\,” Marissa Carnesky\, artist\, showwoman and practitioner-researcher \n“This is such a beautiful book\, it’s really interesting as a man to look at\, as well. Because a lot of my friends are going through peri-menopause or menopause. It’s a great book to bring about understanding and togetherness as women coming together and sharing their stories through these beautiful\, beautiful pictures\,” Rober Diament. Director at The Carl Friedman Gallery and co-host of Talk Art Podcast with Russell Tovey \n“A beautiful\, bold\, bright book that brings so many diverse experiences together. The photographs of over eighty women are beautiful\, and it has been interesting to read about their experiences in their own words.” Diane Danzebrink\, Make Menopause Matter Campaigner and author of “Making Menopause Matter”

SUMMARY:No Fair Maidens with Kim Willis
DESCRIPTION:Monday 15th June\, 7.30pm\, Naval Room\, The Archangel \nJoin us for an evening with author Kim Willis as she explores the\, often overlooked\, powerful female figures from ancient British history. Kim will be in conversation with local author\, Alice Albinia. The talk will be followed by a Q&A and book signing. \nAs Kim Willis drifts from the traditional path of marriage and motherhood\, she yearns for a new set of stories to light her way. Here\, she is pulled towards the source of the Severn\, hearing whispers of ancient matriarchs: shape-shifting enchantresses\, scaly nymphs and goddesses who once commanded our lands. These are no fair maidens\, but powerful warrioresses and animalistic beasts\, snaking along the edges of watery places where we meet the otherworld in the shadows. \nAs she uncovers the ancient myths hidden in the rugged landscapes of the British Isles\, the stories of women like Arianrhod\, Melusine and Cerridwen awaken a forgotten power. Journeying from the Severn to Skye\, Eryri to Northumberland\, Kim discovers new magic in the tales of old\, unveiling forgotten truths about grief and healing\, while charting a new course through sisterhood and sexuality\, fertility and freedom. Through the threads of folklore\, history and landscape\, Kim identifies a better way of being for modern women\, and crafts a new vision for Britain where women are – and always were – a force of nature. \nKim Willis has spent twenty years working as a strategist\, journalist and experience designer\, with a focus on gender\, creativity and story. \nBooks will be for sale at the event and Kim will be available for dedications.

SUMMARY:Rewilding in Action: A Tour of Heal Somerset with Heal Co-Founder Jan Stannard
DESCRIPTION:Come along and learn more about nature-led recovery at Heal’s first rewilding site\, Heal Somerset.\nHeal Somerset began its recovery from its ecologically depleted state at the beginning of 2023 and nature here is already beginning to bounce back. This tour is a unique opportunity to spend time with Heal’s co-founder and acting CEO\, Jan Stannard\, who will take you around part of our beautiful site on mown paths. \nYou will learn more around the wider context of rewilding\, including the reasons we need it and the benefits it brings to nature\, the climate and to our own wellbeing. Jan will talk about the rewilding principles that Heal follows and give you an insight into some of our plans for the land\, particularly the interventions we’re considering and our plans for future livestock introductions. The group will also hear about some of the changes we have seen on the site already\, including the very welcome appearance of wild-living beavers. \nYou will also hopefully experience some of the varied wildlife we have on site\, but even if the creatures are elusive on the day\, we know you will still find the site a beautiful\, peaceful and restorative place to be. \nYour tour will finish with refreshments in our 17th century farmhouse where conversations about rewilding and Heal can continue.

He’s worked with George Martin and featured in Skepta’s music video for the hit song\, ‘Rolex Sweep’ accompanying Skepta at the MOBO awards. \nTimmy is an accomplished artist who has had his work exhibited at various art galleries; enjoys cult status among students and young adults\, has sat on every seat at Man Utd and City; owns over 87 pairs of specs; built a pole house on the great barrier reef\, cycled thousands of miles around the coastline of England and Ireland. In 2018\, Timmy cycled over 3\,000km from his UK home to Santiago de Compostela to honor his late brother\, Martin. \nand gave a break to Mike Myers & Chris Evans among others; debated at the Oxford Union and runs his own successful TV production company. \nWhat a career! And that’s not the half of it! \nJoin us for a fun-packed evening as Timmy shares some of his stories in his own imitable way.
