SUMMARY:Wild Guardians at 42 Acres
DESCRIPTION:A relaxed\, monthly volunteer gathering to support nature restoration. Rooted in a spirit of community and curiosity. Join us to learn new skills\, spend time in nature\, and connect with like-minded folk. \nCome and spend a few hours in nature doing something that matters. No experience is necessary\, just a willingness to get stuck in and try something new. \n42 Acres has been a rewilding nature reserve for over a decade and is species-rich. Join us to connect with the natural world through hands-on activities from wildlife surveying\, to tending habitats\, and slowing down with nature photography. \nSessions run on the last Sunday of the month 10am-2pm (except in May when we are meeting at 8pm for bats and beavers!). There will be time to connect\, wander\, and simply be outside. If you’re up for it\, you’re welcome to join in for a wild swim too. At 1pm we’ll stop and share a simple lunch together\, provided by 42 Acres. \n____ \nSun 31 May: Bats and Beavers: \nPart of the Great Somerset Wildlife Count\, with guest expert Keith Ball (Somerset Bat Group). Please note: this is an evening session\, running 8–10pm\, as we head out for some gentle nocturnal exploration. \nSun 28 June: Hazel Dormice & Reading Nature: \nJoin us to create footprint tunnels for hazel dormice to discover whether this protected species (that have been spotted on neighbouring land!) exist at 42. We’ll also take a relaxed walk around the 11-acre lake\, recording observations and contributing to global biodiversity databases. We’ll look for signs of beaver activity\, tracks\, and birdlife\, and finish at the white stork enclosure\, part of our species reintroduction work. Guided by Lynne Sewell (Sustainable Witham)\, Robyn Caple (@nestandnettleecology)\, and Lisa Hawes (42 Acres). \nSun 26 July: Butterflies\, Dragonflies + Pond Dipping: \nPart of the UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme\, one of the longest-running insect surveys in the world. With guest expert Fred Giles\, we’ll explore the world of butterflies\, dragonflies\, and other insects\, with a chance to get closer through pond dipping and observation. \nSun 30 Aug: Reptiles and Botanics: \nJoin us to check reptile refuges across the site\, helping us understand which species are present (and which are likely absent). Or take a creative route\, help us start making a handmade herbarium for the site while learning how to “key out”\, a step by step process used to identify unknown plant species. \nSun 27 Sep: Trees\nDiscover the stories of Britain’s ancient and veteran trees\, and learn how to identify and photograph them in their late-summer form. \nSun 25 Oct: Harvest Mice and Native Fungi:\nHelp us ascertain whether harvest mice are present on the land at 42\, we’ll search together for their tiny nests. We’ll also explore the world of fungi\, discovering what’s emerging across the site at this time of year. \nPlease Note: \n– Gloves and wellies/boots are necessary.\n– If you have issues with mobility please let us know before signing up\, we will do our best to accommodate.\n– Please book only if you’re committed to attending and staying for the entire session.\n– If you become unable to attend\, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer your space to someone else.\n– If rain stops play\, we have a Plan B and will aim to move inside to create bee bricks and/or a herbarium together.\n– Please speak with your licensed medical health professional if you have any health conditions or are pregnant.\n– As much as we love our four-legged friends\, we can not allow dogs on this experience. \nLocation & Arrival: \nPlease arrive 10 minutes before we begin. Meeting at The Hermitage car park. Full directions are on our website: www.42acres.com/getting-here \nTerms & Conditions: \nhttps://www.42acres.com/terms-and-conditions-workshops-and-experienc

SUMMARY:Slow Sunday at 42 Acres
DESCRIPTION:Spend a slow Sunday afternoon at 42 Acres and reconnect with nature\, with each other\, and with the elements.\nCome as you are and spend a relaxed Sunday of outdoor vibes. Gather in our forest glade for our signature vegetarian wild dining experience. Your meal will be cooked over an open fire with nourishing ingredients organically-grown and wild-foraged on this land.\nGo for a wild swim in the beaver-filled lake\, and relax in the wood-fired sauna. Or simply take time and space to rest and restore on land that has been allowed to do the same. \nYou’re welcome to do as much or as little as you like:\n– Roam the 173 acres of our land – home to millions of lives.\n– Wild swim in our 7-acre lake or take out our rowboat\, SUP board\, or canoe. (Please note these activities are at your own risk – there is no lifeguard).\n– Look out for beaver\, otter\, wild boar\, hare\, deer and a multitude of birds.\n– Explore our rewilded spaces; woodland mushroom farm; permaculture garden; edible ornamental walled garden; species re-introduction projects; and secret treehouse. Or just chill and chat.\n– Add on a holistic treatment (advance bookings only) \nSlow Sundays run from 11am-4pm on the following dates:\n– Sun 5 Apr 2026 (Easter Sunday)\n– Sun 3 May\n– Sun 28 Jun\n– Sun 19 Jul\n– Sun 30 Aug (Bank holiday weekend)\n– Sun 20 Sep \nFeedback from Past Slow Sundays:\n‘I took some proper time out today. Slow Sundays at 42 Acres Retreat are all about connection – with yourself\, with others\, and with nature.\nWild swimming\, a wood-fired sauna\, woodland walks\, and incredible food grown on the land itself – all shared around a long table in the woods\, with birdsong overhead and an eclectic mix of people from all walks of life. It’s a really well-thought-out setup. Simple\, but intentional. The team were welcoming\, knowledgeable (beavers\, storks\, permaculture\, mushroom farms\, soil-to-gut) and clearly passionate about what they’re building. This was their first Slow Sunday- here’s to many more!’\nLynda\, Slow Sunday Guest\, June 2025. \n‘A group of 6 of us attended 42Acres Slow Sunday and we all throughly enjoyed ourselves. The land is beautiful\, with lots of lovely quiet trails to walk and soak it all up. We even spotted storks\, buzzards and believe we may have accidentally bumped into a wild boar too. The setting for lunch is fabulous. Really cosy atmosphere and delicious food. Some of us even jumped in the lake for a quick swim which was really refreshing.’\nLucy\, Slow Sunday Guest\, August 2025 \n‘Beautiful experience of reconnection to people\, place and soul.’\nSara\, Slow Sunday Guest\, August 2025. \nPlease Note:\n– Must be booked in advance. Please do not come without a ticket because we will not be able to accommodate you.\n– Adults only.\n– Alcohol-free.\n– Please bring swimwear and towels to go in the lake and/or sauna.\n– Please dress for the weather. This experience will go ahead in most weather conditions. SUMMARY:Evening Wildlife Walk & Supper with Ecologist Rob Frith
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an unhurried evening at Vallis Farm\, exploring what happens on the land after daylight fades. \nWe’ll begin at 8pm with supper together in the kitchen garden\, sharing a simple\, seasonal meal and a glass of wine. As the light starts to change\, ecologist Rob Frith will introduce the wildlife we’re likely to encounter and what makes this time of day so important for many species. \nAt sunset\, we’ll head out on a guided walk around the farm\, focusing on the creatures that emerge after dark. With Rob’s expertise\, we’ll look and listen for bats\, moths\, amphibians such as newts\, and other nocturnal life that often goes unnoticed. The walk will also explore how farming practices and landscape features support wildlife through the night. If conditions are right\, we may be lucky enough to spot barn owls hunting over the fields. \nThe evening will finish around 11pm\, offering a chance to slow down\, tune in\, and see the farm from a very different perspective. \nA relaxed and informative event for anyone interested in ecology\, wildlife\, and the rhythms of the land — no specialist knowledge required\, just curiosity.

DESCRIPTION:Wild Circle is a women’s group in nature -women sharing honest conversation around a fire\, in a beautiful garden setting.\nNo pressure or expectation\, just a warm welcome and a gentle invitation to take a pause from everyday life and create a little breathing space. \n“Tara made me feel very welcome and relaxed\, I felt completely at ease. I would highly recommend.” -Jo- \n“It was just what I wanted\, a real ‘firebreak’ in a busy life. Thank you for allowing us to develop what we did in our own way\, whilst gently guiding and holding the session. I think the choice to stay in the ’embrace’ of the wooden structure worked well\, and I found the time by the fire warming in body and spirit. And great cake too.” -Beverly- \nFridays 10am – 11:30am\, monthly at Vallis Farm

SUMMARY:Rewilding in Action: A Tour of Heal Somerset with Heal Co-Founder Jan Stannard
DESCRIPTION:Come along and learn more about nature-led recovery at Heal’s first rewilding site\, Heal Somerset.\nHeal Somerset began its recovery from its ecologically depleted state at the beginning of 2023 and nature here is already beginning to bounce back. This tour is a unique opportunity to spend time with Heal’s co-founder and acting CEO\, Jan Stannard\, who will take you around part of our beautiful site on mown paths. \nYou will learn more around the wider context of rewilding\, including the reasons we need it and the benefits it brings to nature\, the climate and to our own wellbeing. Jan will talk about the rewilding principles that Heal follows and give you an insight into some of our plans for the land\, particularly the interventions we’re considering and our plans for future livestock introductions. The group will also hear about some of the changes we have seen on the site already\, including the very welcome appearance of wild-living beavers. \nYou will also hopefully experience some of the varied wildlife we have on site\, but even if the creatures are elusive on the day\, we know you will still find the site a beautiful\, peaceful and restorative place to be. \nYour tour will finish with refreshments in our 17th century farmhouse where conversations about rewilding and Heal can continue.

SUMMARY:Sacred Spring Pilgrimage Walk
DESCRIPTION:A Pilgrimage to the remnant of the once great Selwood Forest\, source of the headwaters to 5 Rivers. \nA greensand ridge that forms the ancient Forest of Selwood features numerous aquifers that feed the headwaters to no less than 5 rivers\, flowing North\, East\, South and West. \nDrawing on archaeological research\, this will be an exploration of the Great Forest that places it at the heart centre of the Sacred Landscape. \nWe will walk in the footsteps of the ancestors\, and echoing their veneration of Springs and Rivers – a recognition of the sacred power of water\, we’ll perform a short blessing at 2 of these Springs\, before visiting an Iron Age Hillfort and a Bronze Age Barrow. \nWhat is the difference between a Walk and a Pilgrimage? Primarily\, it is about intention: walking the old tracks becomes a spiritual act when walked with intention – by doing so we help to preserve and strengthen those ancient songlines…….the Earth re-awakens to our heartfelt care\, and we are healed in return. \nWhilst led by an experienced Druid Ceremonialist\, this is an inclusive walk\, welcoming of all faiths and none. If you wish to step aside and quietly observe the Blessings rather than take part\, please feel free to do so… \nMin age: 18
