SUMMARY:Party at the end of the world – A celebration of Phil Moakes
DESCRIPTION:Party At The End Of The World – A Celebration Of The Life Of Phil Moakes \nThe Cheese and Grain was deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Phil Moakes\, former Chair of the Cheese and Grain Board of Trustees\, in 2025. \nPhil played a pivotal role in the development of the Cheese and Grain and was instrumental in securing the venue’s long-term future during some of its most challenging years. His dedication\, leadership\, and belief in the venue and its staff helped shape it into the vibrant cultural hub it is today. \nBeyond his work with the Cheese and Grain\, Phil was the founder of Frome FM\, a community radio station that continues to enrich local life. He went on to launch Visual Radio Arts\, giving a platform to hundreds of artists and supporting their work. He also served as a Somerset County Councillor\, working tirelessly to represent and champion the interests of the local community. \nIn celebration of Phil’s life\, we are honoured to be hosting a special event\, “Party At The End Of The World\,” alongside his family and friends. \nThe evening will feature a fantastic line-up including The Utopia Strong\, Arch Garrison\, Richard\, Chantelle & Amy\, Kavus Torabi\, The Jolly Rotter\, Hodmadoddery\, Sara Vian and will be hosted by Martin Dimery. \nWe remain profoundly grateful for Phil’s vision\, support\, and the lasting legacy he leaves behind\, not only within the Cheese and Grain\, but across the wider Frome community. \nIn celebration of his life and in honour of this legacy\, all funds raised from the event will be donated to support the vital work of Fair Frome.

SUMMARY:China Crisis
DESCRIPTION:The early 1980s saw a second Liverpool music renaissance\, with China Crisis emerging in 1981 from Kirkby as the songwriting duo Gary Daly (vocals/keyboards) and Eddie Lundon (guitar/vocals). Influenced by Bowie\, Stevie Wonder\, Eric Satie and Brian Eno\, they quickly developed a unique sound—blending synthpop with reggae\, country\, horns\, strings\, and more—working with producers like Mike Howlett\, Langer/Winstanley and Steely Dan’s Walter Becker. \nThe band achieved three UK Top 40 albums and eleven UK Top 50 singles\, including “Wishful Thinking\,” “Christian\,” “Black Man Ray\,” and “King in a Catholic Style\,” while building a loyal fanbase that endures today. Their music continues to reach new audiences\, sampled by artists like French Montana and Action Bronson\, and featured in films and TV such as Gone Girl and Sex Education. \nChina Crisis have toured worldwide for over four decades. Their 2015 fan-funded album Autumn in the Neighbourhood marked a celebrated return to form and will be relaunched in 2025. In 2024\, they released China Greatness\, a reimagined collection of songs from their 42-year catalogue\, produced with Grammy-winner Mark Phythian and featuring new orchestral arrangements\, earning their highest-ever chart position at No. 5 on the UK Vinyl Album Chart. \nRenowned for engaging live shows that mix music with trademark Scouse humour\, China Crisis remain a cherished and relevant band\, still connecting with fans old and new.

SUMMARY:The Bob Villains – Live At The Tree House
DESCRIPTION:In 1966\, Bob Dylan toured the UK. Each night began with a solo acoustic set\, before Dylan returned to the stage backed by a full electric band. Some in the audience loved the change; others did not. At the Free Trade Hall in Manchester\, one voice rang out above the rest\, famously shouting “Judas!” Dylan’s response was immediate and legendary: “I don’t believe you!”\,  before instructing the band to play louder. \nExactly years to the day\, The Bob Villains mark this iconic moment in music history\, with a special show at The Tree House\, Frome. This is truly one not to miss. \nCovering Dylan’s career from his early 1960s acoustic work\, through the electric years and his many stylistic reinventions\, The Bob Villains have spent over a decade presenting his music with the respect and depth it deserves. These five musicians capture the spirit\, power\, and poetry of Dylan’s songs without gimmicks or imitation. \nTheir extensive repertoire includes favourites such as Mr Tambourine Man\, All Along the Watchtower\, Forever Young\, Like a Rolling Stone\, Hurricane\, One More Cup of Coffee\, Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door\, Quinn the Eskimo\, Lay Lady Lay and You’re a Big Girl Now\, alongside deeper cuts from the Dylan songbook including It’s Alright Ma (I’m Only Bleeding)\, Chimes of Freedom and Silvio. \nThis year also marks 60 years since the release of the iconic double album Blonde on Blonde\, with a selection of songs from that record featured in the show. \nWith Dylan still touring in his 80s\, we are proud to celebrate the man and his music. The Bob Villains are a tribute\, not a tribute act\, no wigs\, no funny voices\, just 100% Bob Dylan’s music\, played with passion and authenticity. \nFor more information\, photos and videos\, visit\nwww.thebobvillains.com \n“Truly amazing – when you closed your eyes it could have been Bob singing.” \n“This band interprets the music with an obvious deep respect for the source material.” \n“Thanks for an amazing night. I’ll make sure I see you again in the not-too-distant future.” \nPlease note this is an 18+ all standing event\, and the venue is accessed by stairs with no lift. DESCRIPTION:Prompted by regular Mojo Mover Jayne James’ recent appearance on The Repair Shop\, and\, as part of the wider Frome Connects project\, this special session will have a playlist shaped by songs that remind us of people we love and miss.\nJayne appeared on the BBC1 show with her childhood teddy bear – a small companion with an extraordinary story.\nThe bear was originally given to her mum\, Betty\, a nurse at St Martin’s Hospital in Bath\, in 1960 by Hollywood songwriter Sharon Sheeley\, shortly after she survived the car crash that tragically killed her boyfriend\, rock ’n’ roll legend Eddie Cochran.\nAt the time\, Betty was pregnant\, and the bear was passed on to baby Jayne\, becoming a lifelong companion.\nJayne lost her mum last year\, and her story led us to think about how powerfully music can hold memories. Our initial idea was to create a rock ’n’ roll special featuring the music of Eddie Cochran\, but we decided instead to open it up – inviting all participants to share songs that hold personal meaning.\nYou’re very welcome to send in a song – just please do so at least one week in advance\, as we’ll be choreographing any new tracks ahead of time.\nThere will still be all the usual Mojo Moves energy\, warmth and connection – just with an added layer of meaning.\nProceeds will go to a charity of Jayne’s choice.

SUMMARY:The Puppini Sisters
DESCRIPTION:The queens of vocal harmony are throwing a massive birthday party to celebrate their 20th anniversary\, you are invited to The Puppini Sisters’ birthday tour! \n“Swingpunk” – Financial Times \n“Fabulous” – Vogue \n“…immaculate harmonies… weaving past and present so deftly…” – The Times \nClose harmonies\, corsets\, and clever covers. From festival stages to royal soirées\, The Puppini Sisters have dazzled the world with their retro-glam style and genre-bending swing since 2004. \nFormed by Bologna-born Marcella Puppini at London’s Trinity College of Music\, the trio burst onto the scene with Betcha Bottom Dollar (2006) — the fastest-selling jazz debut in UK chart history. Their sassy swing take on everything from Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy to Heart of Glass won over fans from Michael Bublé to King Charles. \nAs streaming and “antique pop” exploded\, their influence was undeniable. “A lot of acts credited us\,” says Marcella. “But our focus has always been on performing live.” \nTheir signature style — part Vivienne Westwood\, part burlesque — helped spark the vintage revival. “Corsets were essential\,” laughs Marcella. “We could see vintage booming\, but even I didn’t expect it to get this big.” \nNow celebrating 20 years\, Marcella and original Sister Kate Mullins reunite with early member Rosanna Schura for a new album mixing originals and playful covers. “It’s our party\,” says Marcella. “Even Happy Birthday gets the Puppini twist — waltz\, country-swing\, and a nod to Stevie Wonder and 50 Cent.” \nHighlights include Take the A Train\, Take Five\, and the long-awaited recording of Parole Parole. New originals like Hey Sister and Postcards from the Road celebrate two decades of wild adventures — from Russian high-society gigs to royal encounters and LA sessions with Bublé. \n“We’ve never cared about trends\,” says Marcella. “We’re women in charge\, making the music we love. Here’s to the next 20 years.”

SUMMARY:Kate Bush Flash Mob
DESCRIPTION:As part of the wider “Frome Connects” project in May\, Mojo Moves founder Ginny Adams is hosting a free to attend Kate Bush Flash Mob on the town’s famous Catherine Hill. \nDress up as the legend that is Bush (in the Running Up That Hill video) and join us for an impromptu dance on the hill to the track “Running Up That Hill”.\nYou can come as you are and just do your own thing or learn the simple choreography which will be offered at live rehearsals throughout May\, as well as being available on video via the Facebook event and on the Mojo Moves website. No actual running required. \nAfter the track has played once through\, we will head down the hill along Palmer Street and to the entrance of the formidable St John’s Church where head bell ringer Tony Hodges will lead his fellow campanologists in ringing out the tune – which has seen a resurgence due to cult TV show Stranger Things – on the bells which date back to the 17th and 18th Centuries! Ding dong! \nCome and join us and be a part of something legendary. \nFrome Connects is a town-wide\, people-powered experiment built around connectedness.

SUMMARY:Straighten Out – Stranglers tribute live at The Tree House
DESCRIPTION:STRAIGHTEN OUT are the world’s premier Stranglers tribute band with an extensive set-list that spans two solid hours as they re-create the ‘early years’ sound of The Stranglers\, complete with a Hammond organ and Minimoog synth; the same models used by Mr. Greenfield himself\, back in the day! \nThe growling bass sound and the quirky guitar riffs are all there to be heard as is the dual vocal ‘attack’ from the two frontmen a-la Burnel/Cornwell as they rip through the Stranglers’ classic: ‘Peaches’\, ‘Hanging Around’\, ‘No More Heroes’\, ‘5 Minutes’\, ‘The Raven’\, ‘Walk On By’\, ‘Straighten Out’\, ‘Down In The Sewer’ and many more as they cover the Stranglers’ early classic albums and beyond. \nStraighten Out will take you on a nostalgia trip that transports you back to those raw\, powerful\, exhilarating times when The Stranglers emerged through the quagmire of mediocrity to produce some of the finest music ever written. Straighten Out will put you back in that place! \nBassist Shaggy and keyboard player Mick (‘The Doc’) were together in previous Stranglers tribute band ‘Four More Heroes’ and it was only natural that these two continued on after their demise to form ‘Straighten Out’ given their love of Stranglers music and the desire to keep playing live. They set the platform with the growling bass and swirling keyboard sound so essential to reproducing the authentic Stranglers sound. Joining them are Jet ‘Beets’ Beety on drums and Phil Harvey steps up to give you the ‘Hugh’ element to complete the fearsome foursome. \nStraighten Out are a must-see tribute band! \nPlease note this is an 18+ all-standing event\, and the venue is accessed by stairs with no lift. DESCRIPTION:Limehouse Lizzy: Celebrating Over Three Decades of Celtic Rock Excellence \nNow entering their third decade as a premier touring act\, Limehouse Lizzy continues to dominate stages worldwide\, keeping the legacy of Celtic rock icon Philip Lynott and his legendary band\, Thin Lizzy\, alive. Known for their electrifying performances and unwavering attention to detail\, Limehouse Lizzy has become an equally dominant force on the live Classic Rock circuit. \nRecognised with an official PRS/Billboard award as Britain’s Hardest Working Act in their category\, and featured in the BBC’s critically acclaimed ‘Arena’ documentary series\, Limehouse Lizzy’s influence extends beyond the stage. Lead singer and bassist Wayne Ellis has further left his mark as a former member of the recording and touring band The Clan\, alongside none other than original Thin Lizzy and Motörhead member\, Brian Robertson. \n2023/24 has marked a period of unprecedented results for Limehouse Lizzy\, with a record number of sold-out performances (41 in 2023 alone) on their highly celebrated Anniversary Tour. The band’s stellar production and accomplished lineup have garnered widespread acclaim\, solidifying this period as the most successful in their history so far. This is in addition to international tours (USA\, UAE\, Caribbean\, Scandinavia\, NL)\, corporate client engagements (Virgin Atlantic\, Mitsubishi\, and Silverstone)\, and features in renowned magazine (Guitarist\, Bass Player\, Loaded)and book publications (The Rocker\, and Send In The Clones). \nAs they march irrepressibly into 2026\, Limehouse Lizzy continues to deliver their unique and irresistible tribute to Philip Lynott and Thin Lizzy\, ensuring the band’s timeless hits remain a staple in rock music for years to come
