Children (and usually parents!) learn about the fundamentals of music: pulse\, pitch\, rhythm and tempo. \nLittle Piccolos’ goal is to develop a musical ear\, foster creativity and collaboration\, and make music accessible to under 5’s\, with the voice as the primary instrument.\nRISE Frome offers the perfect venue for our groups\, accommodating up to 10 children\, to achieve this each week. \nClasses are £6.50 each session\, per child for the duration of the school term.

DESCRIPTION:Party At The End Of The World – A Celebration Of The Life Of Phil Moakes \nThe Cheese and Grain was deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Phil Moakes\, former Chair of the Cheese and Grain Board of Trustees\, in 2025. \nPhil played a pivotal role in the development of the Cheese and Grain and was instrumental in securing the venue’s long-term future during some of its most challenging years. His dedication\, leadership\, and belief in the venue and its staff helped shape it into the vibrant cultural hub it is today. \nBeyond his work with the Cheese and Grain\, Phil was the founder of Frome FM\, a community radio station that continues to enrich local life. He went on to launch Visual Radio Arts\, giving a platform to hundreds of artists and supporting their work. He also served as a Somerset County Councillor\, working tirelessly to represent and champion the interests of the local community. \nIn celebration of Phil’s life\, we are honoured to be hosting a special event\, “Party At The End Of The World\,” alongside his family and friends. \nThe evening will feature a fantastic line-up including The Utopia Strong\, Arch Garrison\, Richard\, Chantelle & Amy\, Kavus Torabi\, The Jolly Rotter\, Hodmadoddery\, Sara Vian and will be hosted by Martin Dimery. \nWe remain profoundly grateful for Phil’s vision\, support\, and the lasting legacy he leaves behind\, not only within the Cheese and Grain\, but across the wider Frome community. \nIn celebration of his life and in honour of this legacy\, all funds raised from the event will be donated to support the vital work of Fair Frome.

Influenced by Bowie\, Stevie Wonder\, Eric Satie and Brian Eno\, they quickly developed a unique sound—blending synthpop with reggae\, country\, horns\, strings\, and more—working with producers like Mike Howlett\, Langer/Winstanley and Steely Dan’s Walter Becker. \nThe band achieved three UK Top 40 albums and eleven UK Top 50 singles\, including “Wishful Thinking\,” “Christian\,” “Black Man Ray\,” and “King in a Catholic Style\,” while building a loyal fanbase that endures today. Their music continues to reach new audiences\, sampled by artists like French Montana and Action Bronson\, and featured in films and TV such as Gone Girl and Sex Education. \nChina Crisis have toured worldwide for over four decades. Their 2015 fan-funded album Autumn in the Neighbourhood marked a celebrated return to form and will be relaunched in 2025.
