DESCRIPTION:Boubacar Samake\, son of the late Malian music legend Sibiri Samake\, carries forward the deep spiritual tradition of Mali’s donso (hunter) music — a lineage of ritual melodies and rhythms played for courage\, healing\, and connection to the natural world. A virtuoso of the ngoni\, the plucked lute at the heart of donso music\, Boubacar is also one half of electro-afro innovators Siraba. He performs in this new line-up with Louis Campbell (electric guitar\, from alt-folk duo Spafford Campbell)\, Ben Nicholls (bass) and master percussionist Seydou Kienou from Burkina Faso\, whose djembe\, calabash and karagnan bring a visceral\, ancient pulse. Together they reframe this ancestral sound in a hypnotic\, blues-tinged dialogue that bridges West African tradition and modern experimentation. \nAloka is a young singer-songwriter from London but now living in Bristol. Growing up surrounded by music\, Aloka has been inspired from a young age to take up singing. She has carved out a unique sound\, drawing inspiration from neo-soul\, dub\, hip-hop and jazz. These artists will share the stage with Eliza\, honouring and celebrating Martin’s immense legacy and musical back catalogue. \nThis evening will present a rolling cast of admirers\, colleagues and surprise guests\, performing an entirely new set featuring some of Martin’s best loved work from all eras of his career\, spanning from his debut to final albums\, via Waterson:Carthy and beyond. \nMartin Carthy is a legendary ballad singer and guitarist who has influenced generations of artists\, including Bob Dylan and Paul Simon\, while Eliza has been twice-nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and a multiple-award winner at the BBC Radio Two Folk awards. \nIn recognition of his illustrious career Martin was recently shortlisted for the 2025 Mercury Prize for his wonderful new solo record Transform Me Then Into A Fish. This album both marked his 84th birthday in May 2025\, and offered a full circle moment in his music journey as he revisited material from his very first (eponymous) solo record released in 1965. \nSupport will be provided by Martha Tilston\, featuring a beautiful original set. A chance encounter brought Kane and Turner together in 2019\, when Turner was searching for a new singer for his band. DESCRIPTION:World class choral music in Mells! \nTenebrae Associate Artists are coming to St Andrew’s Church in Mells on 19th July 2026\, 6.30pm\, for an evening of choral music that celebrates music inspired by love. Join the country’s next generation of talented singers for a programme of both sacred and secular music\, conducted by the award-winning Artistic Director of the Tenebrae Choir\, Nigel Short. Music in Country Churches was set up in 1989 to organise concerts of exceptional music in rural churches and is particularly keen to give concert opportunities to young and emerging performers. Following each concert\, a donation is made to the church to help with maintaining the building and carrying out essential repairs. Tickets cost £20 (General Admission\, first-come-first-seated). Wheelchair user and carer/companion (two-for-one) tickets are also available. Under 18s go free (must be accompanied by an adult). This promises to be a not-to-be-missed concert!

DESCRIPTION:The legendary Grammy award-winning Hot 8 Brass Band from New Orleans storms into Frome this summer as part of their 30th anniversary tour. Unleashing a powerful fusion of jazz\, funk\, hip-hop\, and rap through a vibrant arsenal of trombones\, saxophones\, trumpets\, and pounding snare and bass drums. \nHot 8 Brass Band draw on the traditional jazz heritage of their hometown\, alongside more modern styles\, including elements of funk\, hip hop\, rap\, and its local variation\, “bounce.” The collective earned a win in the 64th Annual Grammy Awards 2022 for their feature on John Batiste’s ‘Album of The Year’\, following the nomination of ‘The Life & Times Of…’ for ‘Best Regional Roots Album’ in 2013. \nWith multiple sell-out shows at London’s Roundhouse and Brighton’s Dome\, Hot 8 continues to share their acclaimed releases. Albums such as ‘Vicennial…’\, ‘On The Spot’ and ‘Take Cover’\, are brought to the stage\, honouring their city’s musical traditions\, while forging their own powerful legacy. \nMixing an old-school street brass approach with funkier currents and hip hop vocals\, Hot 8’s magnificent originals are juxtaposed with fresh versions of Snoop Dogg\, Stevie Wonder\, The Specials and of course their anthemic take on Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing”.n 2019. Later that year\, after taking to the stage at the BRIT awards in February\, Hot 8 Brass Band were invited on the European leg of George Ezra’s tour. \nWith multiple sell-out shows at London’s Roundhouse and Brighton’s Dome\, Hot 8 continues to share their acclaimed releases. Albums such as ‘Vicennial…’\, ‘On The Spot’ and ‘Take Cover’\, are brought to the stage\, honouring their city’s musical traditions\, while forging their own powerful legacy. Mixing an old-school street brass approach with funkier currents and hip-hop vocals\, Hot 8’s magnificent originals are juxtaposed with fresh versions of Snoop Dogg\, Stevie Wonder\, The Specials and of course their anthemic take on Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing”. \nThe recent passing of Bennie Pete\, the beloved co-founder and sousaphone player for the outfit\, was honoured in true New Orleans fashion with ‘The Bossman Tour 2023’\, paying tribute to his “galvanizing force” as a “leader\, teacher\, and mentor”. Fellow bandmates added that “Bennie was an inspiration to [the] band and to many other musicians\, and the entire musical and cultural community.” \nThe dates celebrated the late Bennie’s “greatest wish… that New Orleans culture lives on for future generations”. This parade followed the success of the Mardi Gras 2020 and ‘Take Cover’ 2019 tours.
