SUMMARY:Exploring the Sibling Story
DESCRIPTION:Our earliest experiences of family shape us more deeply than we often realise. Our families are where we learned about relationships\, and whether we grew up with siblings or without them\, we each carry quiet stories about belonging\, comparison\, responsibility\, closeness\, rivalry\, or loneliness from these foundational early years. These stories don’t disappear when we become adults and it can be surprising how often they are still alive in how we view our place in the world today. \nAs mothers\, these patterns subtly inform how we see our children\, how we interpret their relationships\, and how we respond and relate to the dynamics between them. We want our children to get along (or have a healthy only-child experience)\, while also knowing how deeply precious they are to us. When we experience sibling rivalry\, troubling behaviour\, or even ‘the easy kid’\, there are so many stories in the making for our children and as the parents we can find ourselves responding based on the hurts or stories of where we came from. But this often means we miss things\, because there are always more sides to any story. \nThe Sibling Story is an opportunity to gain new perspective on patterns and stories created by our ‘oldest\, ‘middle’\, ‘baby’ identities\, wherever or whatever the variation. It is a gentle space to put ourselves in the shoes of our children and bring some curiosity to how we can support them to the most vibrant versions of themselves\, within their sibling identity and outside of it. And an opportunity for ourselves as adults to shed any stories that are still keeping us in habits or behaviours that we never loved to begin with. \nThis workshop invites curiosity\, compassion\, and perspective. This is not a parenting “how-to” or a space for comparison. It is a reflective\, human space. One that honours complexity\, individuality\, and the reality that every family looks and feels different. \nYou’ll leave with greater clarity\, new perspective and awareness\, and practical insights you can carry into everyday family life –  supporting both your children and yourself to thrive.

SUMMARY:Exploring Forgiveness - Barbara J Hunt at The Kindness Festival
DESCRIPTION:Forgiveness is something most of us struggle with. It can feel confusing\, impossible\, and often deeply unfair – but it’s also arguably the most powerful way to release the emotional\nburdens we carry. This introductory talk offers a fresh\, practical look at what forgiveness really is\, what it isn’t and how it can make a genuine difference to your mental and emotional health. \nIf you’re feeling stuck over old hurts\, anger\, or regret\, this session will introduce forgiveness as a practice to help you find deeper peace within. You’ll explore the impacts of forgiveness – on your mental\, emotional and physical wellbeing. Forgiveness is never about saying that what happened was okay; it’s about finding freedom and moving on from the past. \nWe’ll also talk about why forgiveness can be so hard\, and the most common obstacles that get in our way. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of what helps and what doesn’t\, along\nwith simple ways to start practicing forgiveness in your own life. \nThis workshop is a practical way of imagining more kindness—for yourself\, for others\, and for the world around you. When you decide to let go of a resentment\, your heart lightens up\, and makes space so more love can flow through you and into your world.

SUMMARY:Calling in Your Spiritual Guides & Healing Masters with Ali Hutchinson
DESCRIPTION:We are never truly alone. \nEach of us is supported by intuitive guides\, spiritual allies\, and healing masters who are ready to work with us – if we are willing to soften our expectations and step into a space of feeling\, sensing\, and inner knowing. \nWe are made of energy.\nAnd when we consciously enter our own energetic and informational field\, we open ourselves to the innate wisdom of the universe – the subtle voices\, nudges\, intuitive beings and guides who are here to support\, guide\, and heal alongside us. \nThis workshop is an invitation to remember that connection. \nTogether\, we will journey through guided meditation to gently call in and feel into the guides that surround you. You’ll be supported to explore your natural psychic and intuitive abilities\, learning how to recognise guidance through sensation\, imagery\, emotion\, and inner knowing. \nWe’ll also explore how to work with your guides for healing – drawing on universal energy rather than depleting your own – allowing support to flow through you with ease and integrity. \nBy the end of the workshop\, you may experience: \nA clear image\, sensation\, or deep inner knowing of your guides \nA felt sense of how they communicate with you \nA greater trust in your intuitive and psychic abilities \nAnd perhaps even a name\, presence\, or personal connection to one or more of your guides \nThis is a gentle\, grounded space to listen\, remember\, and reconnect – opening the door to a deeper relationship with the unseen support that has always been there.

SUMMARY:Kindness to Ourselves Through Movement & Dance
DESCRIPTION:We probably danced before we talked. Moving our bodies is part of being kind to ourselves and brings us in contact with others and with our environment. Dance gives us the freedom to move and become more joyfully empowered. \nIn this Dance Event you are invited to participate in three very different styles of dance. We will start with the luxurious curves and fluid moves of the Middle East\, progress to connecting with the power and earthiness of Africa and finish with the calm and meditative moves of the Circle Dance\, a form of dance that stretches across continents and cultures\, and connects us both to our inner selves and to the world around us. \nWe invite you to join in the experience of all three dances as a journey in music and movement. It is also possible to join for just one or two sessions of the three. \nWear loose comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement and soft shoes suitable for dancing \nBring a scarf large enough to tie round your hips for the Middle Eastern dance. \nThis event takes place at Rook Lane Chapel\, Bath Street\, Frome\, BA11 1DN.

SUMMARY:Harp Meditation with Vicki Burke
DESCRIPTION:A guided meditation\, accompanied by the beautiful sounds of the harp\, using the creative power of the imagination to build our future from the inside out. \nThis is an invitation to everyone\, whether you are an experienced meditator or complete beginner\, to enjoy a peaceful and inspiring evening designed to bring about positive change in your life. \nAccompanied by the beautiful sounds of the heart\, it will help you access a relaxed state of being in which much-needed healing can take place and in which you can explore your ideas\, hopes and dreams for the future. \nAs a group\, we will explore the idea that we all have the potential to take a thought or emotion\, like a seed\, and let it grow in our inner world. As we nurture this idea in our imagination\, journey with it\, and begin to see how we can turn it into reality\, then real magic happens. So many of us already do this with our fears\, so imagine what it would be like if we were just as accomplished at manifesting our dreams! \nAs we return from our imagined future way of being\, we may feel the pain of loss\, because it feels so far away. We will then be guided on how to turn that pain into resilience\, giving us the strength to trust that we can walk this path that we have laid down again and again\, in the days\, weeks\, and years that will follow. In this way we can create the future that we long for.

SUMMARY:Menkind video screening
DESCRIPTION:Another chance to see a short video with men in Frome talking about what kindness means to them\, followed by discussion. For men only. \nSometimes kindness can be perceived as a feminine virtue and we set out to challenge this by asking six men in Frome what kindness means to them. The results are surprising and highlight that “kindness” can take many forms and may be called by other names. Last year’s screening to a packed room in The Crown led to an amazing group dialogue in which men shared stories about unexpected act of kindness they had experienced. This is another chance to see the film and hopefully be part of a similar conversation between men.

SUMMARY:Imagine more Kindness in Schools
DESCRIPTION:An evening for parents\, teachers\, and anyone concerned about bringing more kindness into schools and other learning environments. \nIn the first half of the evening\, Masha Kastner has generously agreed to be interviewed about her experience as the mother of a 13-year-old daughter\, Helena\, who took her own life in January 2024. Heli often asked: “Where is all this pressure coming from?” She deeply felt the weight of stress\, competition\, and unkindness in school\, and dreamed of a world where children were valued\, supported\, and free to be themselves. Masha and her partner David live in Trowbridge and in 2025 set up a new charity\, Kindwaves\, to take forward their vision of a world in which kindness comes first. \nIn the second half\, Melody Hunter-Evans will facilitate a discussion about the issues that have been raised\, and about how we can all imagine – and bring about – more kindness in schools. \nKindwaves is a new charity\, advocating for cultures of kindness in all learning environments\, to address the ongoing crisis of wellbeing for children\, young people\, families and educators. SUMMARY:Frome Kindness Festival - Rob Hopkins
DESCRIPTION:The world feels so profoundly unkind right now. But is that how it’s always going to be? \nWould a society rooted in kindness be a better way to reach the kind of future we all long to see? Transition movement founder\, time traveller and author Rob Hopkins will give the 2026 Kindness Festival lecture in which he will take us on a journey to visit the future that resulted from our placing kindness at the heart of policy\, economics and society. \nHe will share with us things he saw there\, stories he heard\, and what it felt like to be there. As bell hooks once put it\, “what we cannot imagine cannot come into being”. \nSo join him\, as he steps through the fabric of time\, taking us with him\, to immerse ourselves in a world built on kindness. You’ll be glad you went.

SUMMARY:A Kinder Way to Well: Bringing Compassion Back to Self-Care
DESCRIPTION:An interactive workshop inviting you to rethink self-care through kindness\, compassion\, and a more human understanding of wellbeing. \nSelf-care is meant to help us feel better. Yet for many of us\, it has increasingly become another area of pressure\, something we should be doing “properly\,” keeping up with\, or fixing ourselves through. \nThis interactive workshop offers a different way in. \nLed by wellbeing writer\, podcaster and coach Claire Fitzsimmons\, this session invites you to explore what wellbeing looks like when it’s rooted in kindness\, compassion\, and curiosity rather than self-improvement or constant striving. Instead of asking what needs to change\, we’ll gently explore what needs care. \nThrough guided reflection\, conversation\, and simple\, accessible exercises\, you’ll be supported to rethink your relationship with self-care itself\, widening it beyond routines\, rules\, or trends\, and reconnecting it to the very real experience of being a person in the world today. \nThis workshop is for anyone who feels overwhelmed by wellbeing advice\, disconnected from themselves\, or just unsure whether the way they’ve been taught to “look after themselves” actually works for them. \nYou’ll leave with: \n\n\nA more compassionate understanding of what self-care can be \n\n\nGreater clarity about what supports your emotional and mental wellbeing \n\n\nReflections and ideas you can return to in everyday life \n\n\nA sense of self-trust that doesn’t rely on doing more or being better \n\n\nAs part of the Frome Kindness Festival\, this workshop explores kindness as something we can practise inwardly as well as outwardly. Because extending kindness to ourselves isn’t indulgent or selfish\, it’s often the foundation that allows us to meet the world\, and each other\, with more care. \n  \nABOUT CLAIRE FITZIMMONS \nClaire Fitzsimmons is the co-founder of If Lost\, Start Here\, a Somerset-based wellbeing company on a mission to help people get to a better place. As an ICF Associate Certified Coach and a certified emotions coaching practitioner\, Claire works with women navigating change\, burnout\, emotional overwhelm or simply a sense of feeling stuck. Her coaching sessions help people untangle what they’re feeling\, find clarity\, and build a sustainable wellbeing practice that fits who they are now. \nClaire’s writing on mental health\, emotions and midlife wellbeing has appeared in Happiful\, Breathe\, The Simple Things\, and others. She’s also been included in features in Stylist\, Red\, and Psychologies. \nClaire is the host of the podcast A Thought I Kept. Each week she speaks with guests from across creative\, academic\, business and wellbeing fields about the ideas that last a lifetime \nClaire was also Regional Finalist for Best Wellbeing Specialist in Dorset\, Somerset & Bristol for The Muddy Stilettos Awards 2025

SUMMARY:The Grief Opera
DESCRIPTION:An extraordinary journey from shock and pain to profound love\, the Grief Opera may be the most emotional show you see this year. \nWhen rock musician George Linacre died by suicide\, his father Nigel started to write.  And Vladimir Miller\, a contemporary music band leader\, began composing using George’s bass rhythms. Together\, they created the Grief Opera. \nAn extraordinary journey from shock and pain to profound love\, the Grief Opera may be the most emotional show you see this year. The Grief Opera shines a spotlight on suicide\, the most common cause of death in young men\, and the consequent\, harrowing grief. Its creators hope it will enable people to have potentially life-saving conversations and to work with their grief. Mr. Miller lost a band member to suicide earlier in his career. \nAn opera\, concert and musical rolled into one\, it fuses haunting melodies and quirky jazz.

SUMMARY:Slow Sunday: A Springtime Day Retreat at Vallis Farm
DESCRIPTION:An invitation to pause with Kate Foster\, The Intuitive Chef. \nThis day retreat blends seasonal cooking with gentle mindfulness — a chance to step away from noise and reconnect with simple pleasures. We’ll cook thoughtfully\, eat slowly\, and create space for reflection. Expect nourishing food\, unhurried conversation\, and a sense of calm that lingers long after the day ends. \nA beautiful Mother’s Day gift — or a gift to yourself. \nLimited spaces to keep it intimate. \nAbout the day: Sunday 29 March\, 1100 – 1600 \nWe’ll gather in the Vallis Farm dining room for coffee and freshly baked cake before I demonstrate some of the day’s wholesome and delicious lunch menu\, which makes the most of Vallis Farm and local produce. \nAfter a little food chat and Q&A\, there’ll be time for a wander in the Vallis Farm gardens while I put the finishing touches to lunch. \nAfter enjoying lunch together\, you’re invited to rest by the fire or in the garden and take time for some mindful creativity: bring your own knitting\, book\, sketchpad or project\, or join me for a guided session on the forgotten art of letter writing (materials and stamps included!). \nWe’ll end with a chance to share our reflections on a day spent living slowly\, and gently set our intentions for the days ahead. \nSample lunch menu: \nVallis botanical blend sourdough\, freshly made butter\, cultured pickles \nWhipped feta with hazelnut and watercress pesto \nSlow-cooked Persian rhubarb and spring lamb stew\, seasonal veg from the farm (vegetarian: Persian herb and spring vegetable stew) \nHoney poached pear\, bergamot buttermilk sorbet\, lavender shortbread \n£75/person \nVenue: Vallis Farm\, Egford Hill\, Frome BA11 3JQ

SUMMARY:Slow Sunday at 42 Acres
DESCRIPTION:Spend a slow Sunday afternoon at 42 Acres and reconnect with nature\, with each other\, and with the elements.\nCome as you are and spend a relaxed Sunday of outdoor vibes. Gather in our forest glade for our signature vegetarian wild dining experience. Your meal will be cooked over an open fire with nourishing ingredients organically-grown and wild-foraged on this land.\nGo for a wild swim in the beaver-filled lake\, and relax in the wood-fired sauna. Or simply take time and space to rest and restore on land that has been allowed to do the same. \nYou’re welcome to do as much or as little as you like:\n– Roam the 173 acres of our land – home to millions of lives.\n– Wild swim in our 7-acre lake or take out our rowboat\, SUP board\, or canoe. (Please note these activities are at your own risk – there is no lifeguard).\n– Look out for beaver\, otter\, wild boar\, hare\, deer and a multitude of birds.\n– Explore our rewilded spaces; woodland mushroom farm; permaculture garden; edible ornamental walled garden; species re-introduction projects; and secret treehouse. Or just chill and chat.\n– Add on a holistic treatment (advance bookings only) \nSlow Sundays run from 11am-4pm on the following dates:\n– Sun 5 Apr 2026 (Easter Sunday)\n– Sun 3 May\n– Sun 28 Jun\n– Sun 19 Jul\n– Sun 30 Aug (Bank holiday weekend)\n– Sun 20 Sep \nFeedback from Past Slow Sundays:\n‘I took some proper time out today. Slow Sundays at 42 Acres Retreat are all about connection – with yourself\, with others\, and with nature.\nWild swimming\, a wood-fired sauna\, woodland walks\, and incredible food grown on the land itself – all shared around a long table in the woods\, with birdsong overhead and an eclectic mix of people from all walks of life. It’s a really well-thought-out setup. Simple\, but intentional. The team were welcoming\, knowledgeable (beavers\, storks\, permaculture\, mushroom farms\, soil-to-gut) and clearly passionate about what they’re building. This was their first Slow Sunday- here’s to many more!’\nLynda\, Slow Sunday Guest\, June 2025. \n‘A group of 6 of us attended 42Acres Slow Sunday and we all throughly enjoyed ourselves. The land is beautiful\, with lots of lovely quiet trails to walk and soak it all up. We even spotted storks\, buzzards and believe we may have accidentally bumped into a wild boar too. The setting for lunch is fabulous. Really cosy atmosphere and delicious food. Some of us even jumped in the lake for a quick swim which was really refreshing.’\nLucy\, Slow Sunday Guest\, August 2025 \n‘Beautiful experience of reconnection to people\, place and soul.’\nSara\, Slow Sunday Guest\, August 2025. \nPlease Note:\n– Must be booked in advance.
