Event 1119 previously listed as 11th\, but Far-Cue will take place on FRI 10 JULY (The Dooks are on the 11th) \nEmerging from a pile of dirty ashtrays and crushed beer cans in 1996\, Far-Cue set out to make gigs in their hometown fun again. Originally planning to stay together for just a month\, they find themselves still damaging eardrums and demolishing stages some 30 years later. \nHaving now played thousands of gigs\, from sweat-soaked pubs to sold-out nights at the Cheese and Grain\, they’ve also appeared at Glastonbury several times and supported bands like Buzzcocks\, Stiff Little Fingers\, Subhumans and The Damned. \nThe band have self-released 8 albums\, 2 EPs and 2 live albums\, and despite line-up changes\, break-ups\, arrests\, and a short hiatus\, they have stayed loud\, fast\, and very punk rock. \nNow celebrating 30-years of noise\, Far-Cue are still serious about not being serious. \nThis event is part of Frome Festival.

Join thousands of visitors discovering beautiful places across the town and talk with knowledgeable gardeners and wildlife enthusiasts. \nThere will be a large range of gardens open\, including several new additions and recent makeovers. Please be aware that some gardens are only open one or two days across the weekend\, as gardeners love to get out and see other gardens. This year\, you can enjoy exploring some gardens on the evening of Friday 10th – discover beautiful spaces when the air is cooler before Frome Festival’s evening events. \nWhen you purchase your tickets either in person or online\, you will receive a programme with a map which will act as your ticket for the gardens. Programmes can be bought on the Frome Festival website or in person at Cheese & Grain\, Hunting Raven\, Ellenbray\, Victoria Park Café\, Discover Frome in Frome Library and the Town Hall. SUMMARY:Alice Seeley – Anti-Slavery Campaigner
DESCRIPTION:This joint exhibition with Photo|Frome presents searing photographs by Frome resident Alice Seeley (1870–1970) in King Leopold II’s Congo Free State. Using her Kodak camera\, she documented the mutilation of Congolese people under a brutal regime designed to enforce rubber production quotas. Shown internationally as lantern slides\, her images galvanised public opinion and resulted in the collapse of Leopold’s personal rule in 1908. Alice Seeley was arguably the first photographer to create and use her own images as part of an active campaign for social change.
